I fell in love with a woman half my age about 2 months ago. She is 31, has never heard of Wilson Pickett but she loves this song. It still works after all these years.
Effortless singing. He makes it look so easy. Gots to be tough because you can't find anyone today who can perform like this. Go ahead Wicked Wilson Pickett.
This was a brother I would liked to have known ... I don't think most people know the genius of this guy , I'm still learning ... look at his concerts , full of white people and he invites them on stage ... the guy was definition of cool and his VOICE matched with an equally kick ass band ... Nobody can out do Wilson Pickett , NOBODY .
wilson(so underated) but everybody knew... just the same who..... sam cooke, aretha were the best distinct soul singers vocally, ever... the best! yu can feel it when they saang baby... brother ray too.
@johnmulrenan: Bobby Womack, despite his success as a solo artist, writer, producer and all-round performer, remains an underappreciated giant of American roots music. He and Pickett had real chemistry together.
BTW, Joe South played alongside Bobby on many Wilson Pickett songs, or perhaps Reggie Young. Young is one of the most recorded session players in the history of American music. When the Memphis soul scene cooled in the mid1970s, he became a 1st call session man in Nashville.
Great romantic side of the Wicked Wilson Pickett. Lived in a small college town in rural New England, and they let me have a late night (college station) radio show in the summer. Used to love to close the show/station for the night with this song...

@alphuez: That's a great story... I also had a radio show in a small liberal arts college in rural America, and I played all oldies, especially the soul and R&B greats. I'd play this song fairly often, among many others...
I used to get calls all the time for this tune, believe it or not.
@GeorgiaBoy1961 I can believe it SOUL & R&B & COUNTRY MUSIC "LAST" the rest fall by the WAYSIDE. In my 25yr. radio career I learned that. You can identify with it and it touches you and sometimes excites you.
@THEMOJOMANsince1959: You are so right. Good music stands the test of time. Most of the new, "hip" stuff - the latest and greatest acts hot with teens today - will be forgotten by this time next year if not sooner.
I've long thought that classic soul and R&B artists have much in common with country performers. Both speak to the concerns of people living life and suffering the its joys and sorrows. Of course, the classic soul and R&B performers had energy and drive second to none, esp. Pickett.
I first heard this song on a mix my boyfriend made for me :) It was the very first track and it kicked off the cd wonderfully! Such a beautiful song!!!!
sure 'nuff in love! eddie you should play him. the only soul man we have today is cee-lo green believe it or not he can really sing. people would take him more seriously if he would'nt wear such silly outfits, he doesn't need them. check him out doing a remake of jackie wilson's song reet petite.
@makalavena: Don't have the recording handy, but Pickett was recording at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, during this time. Jimmy Johnson was the usual session guitarist. Some southern soul stars worked with American Studios, whose session guitarist was Reggie Young. Bobby Womack and Joe South also recorded songs with Pickett around this time; it is these two guys I believe did the recording. Anyone know for certain?
@subtelmussel okay so now your ear is Gay? ha ha ha ha ha lol. Wil Son voice and soulrode the Cosmic. I can understand why your ears, could not resist.

The song, and the great rythmn guitar part, was written by the great writer, Bobby Womack.
