  • ooops...Wes Montgomery.

  • What a gripping recommendation. Matt Otten has a new fan who thanks him also for an introduction to Wes Paul. Wonderful playing!

  • it reminded me Wes version of Summertime

  • You're a great player in your own right Matt Otten. Scorchin tone and you swing!

  • Pretty sweet surpirse. Wonderful player. Not seen him before. I've been playing Wes since 1962. This guy is very very good. Best wishes for success..get to the studio!!!

    Abe

  • YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST I'VE HEARD

  • Great (again) - but why not playing with your thumb for the full WM tribute?

  • Everything is great in this video: tone, swing, chords! directly in my favourites!

  • this is the second vid I check out ...

really man, you've got some great style,

although you say it's a tribute to Wes,

it's nothing cheap/rippoff or something rly

    5 stars, yet again!!

  • Una version estupenda¡¡¡ La Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor suena muy bien, has cambiado los Pickus originales?

    Gracias

  • i just love your tone

  • Without reservation, absolutely superb. I listen to loads of guitar players and you are up there with the top players. In five minutes here, not even one bum note. Exceptional playing.

  • really fantastic otten!

  • Top notch! I really enjoyed this one!

  • Pure 10, not 5 stars, because it is very difficult to explain what amount of FEELING and emotions this music has. Greetings and congrats Matt!!!

  • Looks like a Epiphone Joe Pass Emperor.

  • sounds very good. What kind of guitar you use

  • Superb!

  • Greate!

  • Anybody know what kind of amp?

  • great! i have the same guitar but definitely not the same style!!! :)

  • Man, I wish I could play like this guy :-)

  • Superb, man!

  • great song! great wes spirit and harmony! 5 stars!

  • Nice tone, relaxed style, and cool tune. Definitely some Wes-chanelling happening here.

Really like the harmonic stuff that's going on.

  • As a vocalist, I would have to admit my admiration is tinged by a bit of jealousy! Keep making me feel jealous.

  • wow great!

  • put this in your ablum and watch so no one steals this tune from you

  • lmao, u spelled "ablum" wrong...its album :D *spelling check* ill help you with the correct spellings of words, lolz

  • yea can you send it to me? =D

  • Very nice job!

Is the Joe Pass epi modified in any way? New pickups for instance? It sounds really great.

  • Epiphones rule

  • Epi Joe Pass, huh? With these skills, shouldn't you be on a D'Angelico or D'Aquisto or Gibson or something?

  • He really doesn't care for Pricy guitars. He actually discourages people from buying expensive guitars with an illusion that it will make them play better. And unfortunately I concur!!!

  • I love the icorporation of chords into the melody. Very "Wes". Great job.

  • man ,if thats your own composition, its up there with bensons "i remember wes"nice, pared down style.excellent!

  • There are many people nowadays who play with extensive speed to make up for their lack of feel or emotion. You are certainley not one of them!! This was one of the most soulful tributes to Wes I have heard.

  • Matt,

thanks for sharing how Wes influncenced your playing. I can hear Wes in many of the top jazz guitarists. I listen to W.M. almost daily and I must say, you did a great job here.

  • r u using ur index finger for octaves and chord melody? how did u made it so clear? nice groove!

  • man i love wes too but there is a difference between us. haha im 14. but i love jazz music. so much devotion and love is put into it. is this an early wes tune or did you write it?

  • wes couldn't have done it better. Smooooth!

  • Wes lives on .... through you Matt. Nice job, outstanding in fact (5).

  • ¡VEEEERRRRRYYYYY GOOOOOOOOD!, agile, smooth, fresh, sweet, deligthful, you're a very good guitarist. i recently dicover wes thanks to mr. 60otaku , and i learned that wes mongomery's style was taked for g. benson ,whos i'm a fan. now i belive that i will be your fan too. i'm going to listen rigth now your bluesette.

  • hey dude great stuff

  • Your best yet, Matt. So musical, I love how some parts have these voicings that are so rich and make it sounds like there's a few guitars playing withh you.

  • Thank you. I grew up listening to Wes Mongomery and this is a beautiful tribrute to his music.

  • There are people on you tube that can play well.

  • fabulous! great swing.

  • Outstanding.

  • Hey Matt, that's a great piece, smoothly played. I've subscribed!

  • Really, really nice- do you do lessons?

  • wow man wow that was beautiful. i wish i had it on CD.

  • how do u know which of the ninths to use in the tri-tone subs, especially when the fret fingerings are so complex? the dominant locrian scale of the minor chromatichs really shine through in this song. keep up the noice chord rotating.

  • Yeah, that's just what I was thinking !

  • Matt You did it man. Wes would have given you his hat such a good play.I admire your technique

  • Whaauv, Matt! Beauuuutiful! A wholehearted tribute to WES! It's just Grand..

  • Awesome playing....nice tone.

    Frank in Toronto

  • Beautiful.

  • Cool Playing! Boss Guitar!

  • Excellent Matt. Keep it up. Wes is one of my all time favorites

  • Amazing! What are you playing through? Love the sound!

  • Dude, how do you know what position you are in overtop the changes? I cant figure that out

  • Loved it!!!

  • incredible! :D

  • damn great!

  • wonderful !

  • Your playing is absolutely incredible. Really the definition of hip. Its got a definite Wes influence, buts its deffintely your own voice too, and thats awesome.

  • Agreed! I would definately pay to see this guitarist play.

  • do you think you could maybe email me the chords to this song? ive been trying to figure it out and would love to be able to paly this on my own. bluebagsfishwife@yahoo.com. thank you

  • Great tone and phrasing. You've got the Wes thing going !!!

  • excellent man!! I am very picky as far as jazz guitarists are concerned. Wes would be proud!!

  • what sort of amp are you using?

  • what sort of amp are you using

  • looks like an epiphone joe pass emperor II to me

  • does that guitar just sound like that or do you have a effect or something ? its a grestch or something right ? i think ima get one after my PGM-301.

  • im jealous

  • Very Nice...smooth! I was very pleased when you dropped the pick...

  • Great guitar playing!

  • This good...but I would never have mistaken him for wes lol

  • Nice, very tasty!

  • That's great man keep it up and post some more!

  • WOW!!

You're incredible. Much respect, I myself ma a guitarist of 4 years but lost some skill when I took a break from the guitar and stepped into hiphop production....

but vids like this make me pick my Alhambra up :D

    Keep it up

  • Smooooooooth !!! nice tone . . .

  • Cool ......... the comps are hip and the lines are flowing.Great work!

  • Great stuff! Wes has always been my main man, but you've channelled him well on this one. I'm sold - and subscribing. Oh, and heading back out to the woodshed. Thanks for sharing this.

  • That is incredible

  • That's unbelievable man, that's so great that you can write in his style so convincingly. If I didn't know any better I would say it must have been Wes'. Are you plucking with a pick or is your index finger just tucked in? I must know!

  • thanks. I play with pick, but halfway in this tune I switch to play the octaves

  • Great Playing! I saw Wes "live" in Boston in 1966 and was astounded how he could get such speed only using his thumb At the time he was using a Standel amp which he did not like.He said he just plays what they send him I play Gibson 1967 Barney Kessel with a Polytone Mini Brute amp Love your videos!!!

  • Hey Matt, sounds really great! The only wes montgomery or should I say jazz solo in general I can play is "Airegin" by wes and yeah you kick my ass any day hahahah Anyways, keep kicking ass, playin' those jazz clubs, recording, its sounds awesome!

  • Awesome, u really good

    U playing real groovy

  • great playing matt!!

  • what strings are you using? what amp are you using? are they stock pickups?
