@dickyp1 maybe that's why he wasnt fast enough. fast exit is more important than fast entry. and turning in early means that you cant go on the accelerator as early.
@TheOriginalGayman sorry man, it takes EVERY aspect to be fast, no one aspect is more important than the other....alesi was the fastest on the apex...early turning requires less breaking on apex approach....faster apex speed equals faster exit speed...it's the minimal steering inputs that help maintain speed...think about it... when mcLaren thought thier engine was crap, they turned to alesi to test...he was one of the fastest ever, on;y behind ayrton senna and schumi.. his problem was crap cars
@dickyp1 you are talking sence there. But if you turn too early into a corner you cant exit fast because you'll go off the track. That is what I meant to say on the first post.
And about drivers in general:80% of the drivers are about the same with their driving talent. So if they would all have the same car, their lap times would be almost exactly the same.It is the tuning of the car that makes a differense at that point. And some drivers are better than other on that.Scumi is the greatest on that.
@dickyp1 Faster apex speed doesn't necessarily equal faster exit speed. Normally, "slow in, fast out" is better because you can get most of the turning done pre-apex and get the power down earlier rather than waiting and scrubbing speed on the exit. Granted, if you can carry more speed to the apex and still get the car turned, then great.
@Jamirofan89 I agree with ya. Alesi is my favourite driver ever. Maybe the reason he didn't manage to win races was not just the bad cars...maybe he didn't fully understand how to setup a car. But thats fine. Because he had raw driving talent and it always showed!
@chrisjones1980 I know he won in Canada 1995. And it was a superb win, although maybe a little lucky due to the other front runners dropping out. I'm not trying to take anything away from Alesi because he is my favourite driver. Besides, a few front runners crashed off the circuit, so the fact that not only was Alesi the most consistent driver that day, but also had very good pace, even early on. I'm just saying I get the impression he never fully understood how to set up a car...
...however what made him so quick was his raw driving talent. It was almost like Senna. He's talent seemed so natural. (I'm not saying Alesi was better than Senna, I dont think he was. I still preffer Alesi however)
Is that a prost car he's d riving? also I think that he drove the yellow car jordan? in 2001 That's what I was thinking I neber knew that he drove prost :P . And this car looks very hard to handle (:|
To be fair the car had a good amount of power as it was a Ferrari engine but the car was missing something on the handling front. The backmarkers looked bitches to drive just a few years back as the amount of times the driver would have to correct the steering was unreal. Today it's not so noticable, understandable though because there are no truly dreadful backmarkers on the grid at the moment.
Should have retired at the end of 1997, I kinda felt sorry for a guy of his talent having to haul uncompetitive Saubers & Prosts around for another 3 years.
@LXROL He had a choice of Williams-Renault or Ferrari. He chose Ferrari. He admitted making that choice with his heart and not with his head. But he said he would not change it. Great man that would be a multiple champion if points were awarded for passion & effort.
Yes, sadly he was driving for Ferrari in their bad early 90's years. In 5 seasons (1991-1995) Ferrari only won twice. Williams wanted to sign him in 1991, which means he would be driving the dominant Williams in 1992 and 1993. His career could have looked very different indeed today.
Alesi - Geat driver and great guy. It's a shame he had to drive the underperfoming PROST at the end of his career.

That car looks to be really difficult to handle. It seems he has to brake very early to not lose control of the car.
