Excellent alternate lyrics! What the hell Steve, "What about the babies, living in the street", lol All kidding aside, it does not get funkier in my humble opinion. ( .-.)
I love how the MS audiences always sat on the floor and just jammed with the music. No one was acting a fool like kids today would be. These live shows were so awesome to watch since this was before MTV. It's sad there's not much live music to watch anymore on tv. The 70s were all about music variety shows. Good times.
@gypsyThree97 This version before you was only done on the "Midnight Special"...Steve did some various versions of this song, but has not released any of them.
@MegaSkoalBandit7195 No argument from me here...I was 15 when I (and my brothers) started watching "Midnight Special"...lol...Needless to say I was wired on M&M's, Cola, and popcorn back then...lol.
That whole guitar thing, where he scratches on the guitar strings, its like a sped up clock's 'tick tock' he's doing for "Time keeps a' movin'..." Brilliant. Simply brilliant.
WOW! 'Though I don't remember this performance specifically, I'm still old enough to remember watching Midnight Special regularly as a lad. Never see anything like that on U.S. network television again.
@fafsa89 This may be 1973 or 1974. Miller wrote this earlier version of Fly Like an Eagle in 1973, and then re rearranged the song and lyrics a few years later for the "Fly Like an Eagle" album in 1976.
Hi folks, back in 1973 Steve Miller played a song live on tv with a bass solo ( the sailors horn-pipe) not sure of the song . Any one know the song I need to know would appreciate if you could post it here ,...thanx ....
Hey folks, I saw him play this version long before he ever recorded it. The recorded version is much more "refined." This version seems to be earlier in the 70s and played like it was when I heard this band live at West Chester University in late 1973, during the Joker album tour. Gerald Johnson on bass is one of the funkiest bassists I have ever heard. I had the opportunity to gig with this keyboardist Dicky Thompson in Nashville in the late 90s who told me some stories about this song.
@redsox4life0111 The truth is that it was almost impossible, with the technology available then, to reproduce the studio sound live. In the studio, bands would track in synthesizer parts, add an extra guitar, etc. I would have taken 20 people to reproduce it accurately live. Now, i, a single synth can sound like a complete band. Be that as it may, the music was HONEST back then, unlike Britney Spears singing with an auto-tuner to cover her flats and sharps cause she can't carry a tune in a bucket

I have been waiting for someone to put this on youtube!! I remember this show, had actually taped it on an 8 Track (remember them?) but my tape broke years ago, but remembered the performance. If I am not mistaken, this actually was before the release of the album. Great performance, thanks for submitting it!!
Awesome vid!!! Steve Miller Band's stellar rendition of "Fly Like An Eagle" is unsurpassably fine entertainment...Specially Love the Main Vocalist also playing the Strings, n the percussion instrumentalist, but the entire band is spectacular. Five Stars n a Fave, extremely well deserved!! Take care, Chris...Peace...Immensely Cheerful Spirits...LOL :0)
