  • what a great song and video..love me some neil....

  • this video is awesome. neil is a legend

  • We love Neil. Even when he's purposefully pissing off his label, he nails it and layers it. At 1:45 backing singers sing "Doo wah, toke toke".

  • Hey Neil!! Whadja do your hair with a firecracker!

  • record labels should not exist.. but in this case... they actually did a good thing :)

  • man, i fuckin looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove this song

  • .....ahhhh....how about some dental work there Neil?!

  • the biggest "fuck you" to a corporate record company ever!

  • Neil wasn't really joking around. He did this video to piss Geffen off. Great song.

  • Neil looks like he just came off of one serious bender in this video.

  • Classic!!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • Only thing with this CD is nearly all the tracks sound the same, all 22 minutes or whatever, but good track really, neil with his D.A. on the cover, yeah he has a S.O.H.

  • Great vid, song, and artist, Neil Young! Hey kids - the effects are done the hard way, by cutting and splicing 35mm film.....no CG here!

  • @modernpony

LOL...I thought you were going to say...by cutting his hair ;)

  • Excellent vid

  • Great!!!

  • Sounds very 1950s!

  • Thanks for the little bio ;)

  • Wonderin' why 2 people hit the dislike button :S

  • Im wonderin' why neil doesn't see a dentist

  • Don't tell Neil Young how to make an album "suit".

  • He actually borrowed the shirt from Tim Pope the director of the video on the day of the shoot!

  • This Song Should have been a hit, and won an award on americas funniest videos , damn good video, song and neil looked like one of the good ole fucktard boys. watch every saturday and have turned on several friends who appreciate good tunes and a good laugh !!!! we love it

  • ♪♪♪♪♪♥♪♪♪♪♪

  • Neil Young é realmente brilhante!!!

  • Only Neil Young can do this, multi-Talented!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Little known fact: This is actually footage of Neil Young wondering where the hell he is. The music was added afterwards.

  • great tune ..gave birth to the RAT ROD MOVEMENT

  • Neil at his best in my opininion. I don't understand why anyone would not like it. His facial expressions are incredible. I did not know Geffen sued him over it. What a bunch of idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Live on forever Neil!!!!!

  • Screw Geffen Records for suing Neil over this album!! What amazing pricks! This is good music!

  • I remember MTV playing this video during the early eighties. It was a little quirky even for MTV at the time. Was the name The Shocking Pinks a reference to The Shocking Blue? (Venus)

  • a.) he looks too drunk to drive. good thing they have a chauffeur.

b.) it's kinda cute that he pops up from the side of a screen every now and then. very cartoony

    c.) GREAT song!!!

  • Even taking the piss, Neil Young ticks all the boxes. He's the finest singer songwriter..

  • for a long time... I wasn't a Neil Young fan, then ten men workin' ,brown eyed girl, wonderin' well splat who wouldn't love them.

  • @anallyproper Did Neil Young do Brown eyed girl? I didn't know that. I thought it was just Van Morrison. must check it out, thanks

  • this should have a statue somewhere, the caddy neil and the shocking pinks

  • GOOD fuckin' song,....

  • 2.03 GARBAGE DAY!!

  • Howdy Anthony!

  • In all its irony this is actually a GREAT FUCKIN song!!!!! If this was performed in 1958 it wouldve been in the top 10

  • Doo waaah walk (the) walk!

  • Radio 1990, people.

  • Great Song!!! I don't care whether he was takin a shot at Geffen Records or not. Cheers Neil!!!!! Do wah bop bop do wa.....

  • Remember this as a late night MTV video, (when they had videos). So cool, that it brings the nostalgia of when Neil's growing up music, met video for the 80's. Makes me wonderin' of what happened to "music"?

  • At this moment... There is 1 that have no soul... LOL!

  • c est geant u bon vieux rock a la maniere neil young on ne se lasse jamais de l ecouter scoty

  • You have no idea much this song and video makes me smile! I remember watching this as a kid on MTV in the 80s on Wierd Al TV! I've liked it since and found out a week ago that it was a Neil Young. I almost fell out because it was such a suprize! It opened so many doors because I had no idea he was so diverse as an artist, you know?

  • @LadyofWar1980 This video cracked me up and I've been a fan for decades. I have the album. Never heard of Weird Al TV though !!!

  • @seapro17 Weird Al Yankovic used to have a show on MTV back in the 80s and 90s with the same title. It was comedy gold!

  • @seapro17 He has a new one every albumb, we're waiting for the next one...

  • Neil Young is clearly a Renaissance Genius, Long Live Neil.!

  • Neil Young, the ugly side of rock...

  • brilliant. :)

  • Well, Geffen did ask for a "Rock and Roll" album from Neil, and this is what he gave them. This album really does prove what a great sence of humor Neil Young has as a musician.

  • @SaturnTrack It also cost him 5 years of putting out anything new. He battled Geffen over his contract.

  • Neil kinda reminds me of Jack Nickolson's role in One Flew over the Kookoo's Nest

  • I think this is the first time you get to see Neil really being funny, and he is a damn funny guy, in a wry sort of way. Long may Neil run!

  • When my brother and I were like 9 and 10 we used to see this video and laugh at the weird funny guy on it. And every time it came on we'd watch it. The song started to sticking in my head. A few years later I saw 'Rust never sleeps' on t.v .Of course, I could not help but be completely impressed and enamored with the guy. Neil is consistently great.

I'm a recording artist now and every once in a while I love to play ' Wonderin' with the band. Have to do it live some time.

  • Love the 50's sound in this ...

Hilarious how Neil can make himself look so obnoxiously nerdy ...

Can't help but love this vid ..

  • David Lynch must have been jealous. A very surreal video.

  • I remember when this song and video came out. Floored me! Love the 'old' Neil, and I think this song is great. The video is so cool. Love how Neil looks. What a great tune. It was 1983! Thanks for posting! Like A Hurricane!

  • I have had this wonderful song in my head all day long,Im wonderin if I will hear it again tomorrow, knowing that its driving me crazy.

  • Neil went from the godfather to grunge ("Rust Never Sleeps" & "Like A Hurricane") to Sha Na Na disciple lol.

  • neil looks so cheesed out in this

  • Loved this vid when i saw it on "Friday Night Videos" on NBC late Fri. nights.

  • i love doowop harmony

  • i love doowop harmony

  • At the age of 11 in 1983, this was my first glimpse of Neil Young. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot.

  • I love this because of that shirt. It's truly one of the great shirts.

  • This was the album where the record company told him he had to make a rock n roll record! He didn't like being told what to do artistically, so he created this and pissed off the record company which lasted for years! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • Awesome!!! :) Video & song pure beauty.... :) Thanx 4 uploading

Have a spectacular weekend Youtuber with a taste 4 fantsastic music :)

  • thank you, never thought I would find this!!!

  • Great Video!

  • Love !

  • best video ever made

  • very cool video and tune ....hey is that the car neil was converting to alternative power...i read it caught fire and was ruined....

  • maan whatta bummer bout his teefs...lol....but kewl tune and so totally a ginormous departure from anything Neil had done or has since, I think that his voice was really a lot better too...lol...sorry Neil cuz I know this aint his thang & he was probably just fuggin around yeah? But wtf! Neil's def diverse!

  • I was never a big fan of Neil Young but loved this song when it was played on MTV.

And now its on my iPod and it still sounds great all these years later. I sure loved the early days of MTV.

  • This gets funnier with time. I love the teeth courtesy of the LAPD. Friggin pigs knocked his teeth out back in the day.

  • best contractual obligation evah!

  • I also remember seeing this on MTV when I was 12 or so. It was my first exposure to Neil Young. Imagine my surprise when I saw what other music was made by the "Wonderin'" guy! Thanks for putting this up - I haven't heard it in over 25 years and was surprised by how much of it I remembered from just a few sightings on TV!

  • This is good summer music!

  • If genius is crazy.....then Neil Young is crazy as shit! This song along with "Sample and Hold" show how diverse this man can be and still hit that shit out of the park.

  • Love this song.

  • Yes!! I was 12 when this video was released on mtv,and loved it,i grew to get deep into neil and his music since that time, he was really into the 80's synth sound and got shit for it, from fans and mainly his label, this album was made in this 50;s style because neils label didnt like his new synth sound he was messing with and told him to "make this album more rock& roll" he new they wanted the old folk rock sound but he literally made it Rock& roll to piss them off.but he makes great music >.

  • Geffen was an accountant, and Young is an artist. Young was exploring the musical boundaries, but Geffen didn't want to pay for it. Geffen wanted safe and true, good old Neil Young.

  • wow this video... i remember it beeing wierd, but this is... awesome!! LOVE IT!

  • loved this song since the first time I heard it, I still have original on 33 vinyl and I am still wonderin' if I'll be alone knowing I'll need you to save me - I been walking my room all night my footsteps almost drove me crazy baby you been gone so long - I'll have to save myself, I'm wonderin' - hit it Neil

  • This is so fun!

  • I can't get this song out of my head! love love love

  • I actually saw this tour. The front end of it was Trans, the back end was The Shocking Pinks. They ended the shocking pinks show with a killer rendition of 'do you want to dance'. (I saw both ends of it)

  • damn, I love this catchy tune...

  • Possibly the coolest shirt ever seen in a pop video.

    Songs not bad either.

  • Like this song, it is from the rockabilly flavored album "Everybody's Rockin", always liked his trajectory as an artist, even if he pisses the "too set in it's ways music establishment", he has always made music that has integrity.

  • Never laughed so hard. I had no idea he had such a dry sense of humor, beautiful!

  • Never understood why this didn't album didn't take off. You had the Stray Cats doing the same stuff at this time. I know Neil was doing this as a joke, but still it had some good beats to the songs.

  • This is one of my favorite songs of 83. I was surprised when I found out it never charted. Great video! Thanks for sharing it.

  • genius is often underated :)

  • I think I finally understand the expression "tickled pink" :)

  • This song, performed live, would rock any venue on earth. People love a simple beat, a melody, and good clean fun.

  • man what an awesome job on this recording i

m listening on a pair of bose headphones and the sound quality is fantastic one of the best i have heard..almost binaural to stereo revelation...lol... very good!

  • Makes my sweet hive drip honey..... yummsexaliscious!!! Kyss

  • I love this as much as I did when it first came out and blew all the other goofy 80's crap out or the water! Thanks, Neil. You're keepin' me alive, man.

  • The only song i've ever liked from him!

  • I love this song.

  • Great video from a great Canadian artist...

I love when the cop pulls in to see what's going on!

    Thanks for posting this one!!!

  • Fantastic- looks like the video was shot on a budget of $14.99, but is still way more entertaining than most multi-million dollar efforts today.

You know the ones I'm talking about- yacht, swimming pool, honeys wiggling bikini-clad butts in the camera, some guy going on about spending Gs...

  • I know David Geffen did not like this album but i did

  • Absolutley brilliant!!!

  • He is a genius!

  • Awesome how fried he looks: only adds to the appeal of this video (plus, effectively answers the question of why the chick left).

  • He probably was wonderin' where he is! He was toasted in this video!!! LOL!!

  • I saw a concert is Seattle early 80s, where Neil came out solo for the first half, and then came out as Neil and the Shocking pinks to close, the intermission was music videos on a big screen, If I remember, ( and that is the key word) it was mostly rock a billy music.

  • @lazlo717 I was at the same show, when the shocking pinks part started, the people behind me pointed at the stage and shouted "That's not neil young" and walked out!

  • great. this predates all bullshit garage rock naysayers from the nineties.

  • my favorite song from Neil. The video made it so much better, you can tell that he REALLY cares about what videos would do for his career.

  • Garbage. But hey Neil, I'm willing to give the land back to the Indians. Let's start with your ranch. Take your Ass back to Canada. Oh, wait a minute, yall stole that from them too. Where the fuck should we go ?

  • I saw Neil Young in 1983 at Tanglewood in Massachusetts. He did a set with the Shocking Pinks, it was great!

  • ....but Mr.Geffen you asked for a rock n roll record.Did I deliver or what?

  • It took me a long to find this CD but is still one of my favorites.

  • ..and this was right after Trans!

  • This video is too cute. :)

  • I'm with prgvidiot 100% cept replace 80s w/70s. Oh and well replace this album and Trans w/Live Rust.

  • ever notice how much he and "Beck" look the same?!?! I'm wondering?

  • Way back when MTV used to show videos, this was one of those that made me put down the controller and pause. Thanks for posting. I thought he had lost his mind at the time, but looking back on it, it was either forward or a throwback. Might be both.

  • Right on prgvidiot! Now go watch some Human Highway!

  • This album and Trans (2 Piss Off Geffen albums) are what got me INTO Neil as a wee lad in the early 80s. This video is so bizarre if you don't like it you have no soul, much less a taste for the different...

  • @prgvidiot .....INDEED, well said!

  • @Elconquistador69too The fact that there are 206 likes and zero dislikes indicates to me that there are many with soul and a taste for the different. 207 now. I heard that at the end of the video they actually did bump Neil's car accidentaly and he was ticked.

  • I think I have to agree. I LOVED this video and went...So, who's this Neil Young?

  • @prgvidiot I agree. I don't particularly care for Neil Young, but I love his experimental 80s stuff.

  • @prgvidiot I agree with your blog but I hope you have looked in Neil with Buffalo Springfield and his 8 great solo efforts or with Crazy Horse in the 70s. That was introspective Neil , and this song belongs there too, and the whole world needs to here great records like Goldrush, Zuma, Everyone knows this is Nowhere, etc. Have you seen the 1971 Fillmore tapes .. Neil is so cool and funny.

  • @prgvidiot Being a member of the MTV generation, this was my intro to Neil too. This is a very underrated song.

Still one of my favs in spite of the story about Geffen records, etc.

  • @prgvidiot YOU ARE CORRECT SIR

  • Neil "the retard" Young..........I'm wonderin'....no I'm sure it's crap

  • get rid of 26 parasites

  • It was either 1983 or 84 and it was the first Neil Young song I ever heard. Imagine this coming out at a time when Duran Duran, Culture Club and Flock of Seaguls were big.

  • Even with the (apparently) low budget of this video,it's LOTS more fun to watch than any high-budget stuff today.

  • great album

  • I remember LOVING this vid back in '83....I'm a musician, and I didin't really realize it at the time, but the period from about '79 to '85 was pretty much anything goes, and a LOT of quality stuff like this was being released. Acts like The Stray Cats, The Producers, The Vapors, Elvis Costello, etc. were doing what they felt was good, and it was! Once Madonna and the Hair bands arrived, everything went to SHIT and hasn't recovered since.....So sad the teen of today can't enjoy what we had....

  • @duster413 Absolutley right on. Producers and Vapors? Heck yeah!

  • google mp3iffy to download this song from youtube.

  • Too bad this sort of thing is dead. everything sounds the same these days. very sad....

  • neil reminds me of bruce McCullough in this one

  • This was such a cool song . . . !

  • Neil looks hungover

  • Def. takes me back to the good ole days!!

  • don't do drugs kids

  • Woo! Artistic freedom FTW!!

(Also, love the face at 1:53! XD)

  • I'm lovin' it...............epic!

  • This is a badass mf'n song!

  • from electronic music to rockabilly, Neil can do everything, he's the man!!

  • neil is bad ass

  • Classic. Neil's the man.

  • awesome! Just awesome!!!

  • i love this song!! Neil is a genius!

  • Carly Simon finally told the world that 'You're So Vain' was written for Geffen... LOL

  • @louiseduvee

No I'm pretty sure it was Warren Beatty

  • @louiseduvee

Why are you saying that here? Are you confusing Geffen with Beatty as well as Neil young with James Taylor, Simon's ex and currently on tour with Carol King, Geffen's ex??

  • AHH!! The yellow TO cop cars!!!

  • by a huge margin this is Neil Youngs greatest album in my view-25 years and still not tired of it

  • I can't understand why Geffen didn't like this album, or why people don't regard it as being as good as his other, more 'Neil Young sounding' work... This song is so good!

  • because people are stupid and can't handle when an artist strays from their "typical sound"..It's a shame! His work with the Shocking Pinks is fantastic!

  • @wegottheseafunk hehe true now but when he did it this wasn't what they expected. To see it now is pretty funny and I like it. But this isn't the Neil they signed

  • @wegottheseafunk they sued Neil for not sounding like Neil, but then again Fogerty got sued for sounding too much like himself - gotta love the music biz
