Fantastic painting, thank you for sharing your work and inspiring me. Just a quick question. Could I paint like this doing the layers and blending etc using acrylic paints? Thank you once again.
Dear cartoonprofessor, it's not viable to create like this with acrylics, as the nature of the materials used with oils allows for the effects to be brought about. For the same energy and application, the results with oils exceed acrylics. Acrylics are great for use in other ways. Cheers and happy creating.
Wow...it turned out to be QUITE BEAUTIFUL. The most important part is your enjoyment is contaigeous. Absolute Joy to watch but most of all THANK GOD for your life and talent, is apreciated.
Wow. This is just so inspiring. The brush strokes are free and spontaneous, and I love the rich colours. I really am speechless after watching this painting process
I am doing a project for school that involves painting and recording it in time lapse. How many frames per second did you use while recording your video?
Hi frogger832, the video was recorded in PAL timecode, which is 25 fps. Then, the footage is edited, either by cutting, or speeding up. Perhaps your question is targeting more what speeds were used in the editing process? This varied between 400% and 1600%. The best way to measure what you need, of course, is the human eye.. just trust what works for you.
thanks, i've already completed the art and recorded it running at 50 fps, the painting of The Radley's House in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee which i am creating took about a week to complete. Its suppose to be short, and i'm not that good. I've only painted for only 5 years and i'm 14.
I don't know! I think you took it a little bit too far. I thought it looked best at 04:00, with maybe some more of that dark blue on the left hand corner. Nice job anyway!
I know you are marketing your dvd's and that is important to you, but I am really grateful for the amount of information you are handing out for free. It's very generous. I learned a lot just reading what you say about the laws of creativity on your website. I look forward to seeing your other videos and if I can I will buy your DVDs too.
This is a terrific question. Often when we work on a painting there are several different ways the painting can go, and sometimes we (perhaps inadvertently) try to get them all in the one, and overdo it. The thing to remember is to be pragmatic about it - simply finish when you feel your creative energy is exhausted - and do another one!
You'll know when your creative energy for the piece is exhausted, when you feel the painting isn't going anywhere. Even tho it may seem unfinished, if that's as far as you can take it, it's best to leave it at that point. Inspiration may strike later, and at least you won't have ruined it. Keep an eye out for the 'several paintings in one' thing as you work, and make notes of the other possibilities you see: do those separately, maintaining your special vision for the one you're working on.
This is something I struggle with all the time yet never knew how to verbalize! I almost feel A.D.D. as an artist sometimes, because so many topics/subjects/styles interest me - and even in the midst of a single drawing/painting, I see too many possibilities. Will try to keep in mind what you just said, maybe it will help! And thinking of buying one of your DVDs when I can.. :) Very good insight!
scott1423678, the mix is made up of Stand Oil, Artist's Turps and Damar Varnish. It's less expensive and a better mix if you make it yourself. We're providing a for a limited time a free eBook at our website, which shows how to do this, and gives you the Fine Art techniques and quite a lot more. Our site can be found at artbytv dot com.
You said it took a year to complete. I was curious what you do with your paintings? Do you sell them or keep them for your personal collection? and if this painting was done with stand oil artist's turps(is that coloring powder?) and damar varnish is used for what?
Dear pumpedpittbull, regarding sales: yes, works are sold through an art dealership in Sydney, and in my own galleries and through my studios for the last 22 years.
Re Stand Oil - this is an ingredient which makes the painting medium used in Fine Art Techniques. The medium's purpose is to alter the physicality of the paint to allow for various effects. We have a comprehensive eBook which includes this information available free for a limited time at our website (see description).Cheers, Robert
