I grew up with an '88 ES with the turbo 2.2 and a 5 speed. My parents bought it new off the lot... it was a salesmans demo and only had 300kms on it. They got rid of it i think in about 2003 with 287,400kms on it... pretty sure the turbo seized as it wouldn't boost anymore, and it died... wouldnt run once it warmed up, so we gave it to a mechanic. Last we heard, a single mom was driving it.
Always loved that car... had a full load too... leather and everything
This was my first car; a white 87. 2.2 turbo 5 speed. Ignoring the problems the car was having, and was running into, it was pretty fun. Fairly fast for what it was (and for a 16yr old boy) I loved having all the options too. Sadly it only lasted a year if that (00-01). The old thing couldn't take the beating it took at its old age.
My mother had one but it had a myriad of problems. The passenger door wouldn't open easily as with the driver's door, the overhead compass/thermometer always said "SE" and the left window in the backseat wouldn't go up.
I just bought a '88 Lancer. Mint state, has always been maintained properly by official dealerships, has always been stored in a garage. It's like a time machine. It's really a well-performing car, extraordinary well handling for its age.
Had a maroon '86 that I bought new. Worst car I ever had. Trim items started falling off within 6 months, blew a head gasket, bad wheel bearings at 35k. Complained to Chrysler at the time and no response. Not many around now - all in junk yards.
@jrkelm But not many pre 1990 cars on the road either. My parents had a blue one for 13 years. It had it's fair share of mishaps, but overall it was a tough, usefull car that was there when we needed it. I love the practicallity of the hatch sedan. One of the few Chrysler products I actually really like.
I've got one sitting in my garage, me any my Dad fixed it up(not that it needed much fixing) and I'm getting it as my first car. It was also my Dad's first brand new car when he got it in 86 so thats pretty cool.
I'm not too sure, most of the 1986 Chryslers had either the buzzer, or if you had the voice alert then you'd get a chime (not the same one as the later model years)
I remember the old days when the Dodge vehicles had the pentastar as the logo.... Mmmm I wonder how it would look on the current models...For example on a 2007 Dodge Durango

They either had a chime or a buzzer, IIRC. Mine had a chime.

It was my first car. 1985 turbo 2.5 with a 5 speed and all the computer gadgets. I miss that car.

My mom had a 87 lancer 2.5 auto, she said it was the best car she ever owned, loved it till she got smoked at an intersection.

Check out the Lancer Shelby. 2.2 litre Turbo ( intercooled with the 5 speed ) a blast to drive!

Well, I am very sure as my old 1986 LeBaron GTS had chimes but no voice alert.
