  • I got the same problem!

Just do ducktape on the touch panel..

  • fleschen the BIOS times:)

  • unplug everything also the power cable and keep it running on his battery. than just pull out the battery. put it back in and it works agian

  • for the smosd bar thing, just press ctrl alt delete and close the program, it wont show its ugly face to you again xD

  • i resolved this problem on mine. you need to remove softtouch button cover, put some aluminium sticking tape under line with soft buttons treble to wireless. cover it with paper painting sticking tape and mount again. my problem solved since i did this.

  • this exact same problem is happening on my HP HDX 18 right now as i type this .

i wonder if its something to do with a free upgrade Hp offered when i bought the systerm with vista 64bit , Hp sent me a free Window 7 64bit upgrade disc. Its so annoying when using the Second Life online chat world.

  • This happens to me all the time (like now). I really need to bring this stupid laptop in. At least I know its not isolated.

  • I just recieved a notice today of a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against NVIDIA chips that were installed in HP laptops, Dell, AND apple. (Doesn't have to do with this issue, but i thought i'd ad the info for others). My HDX 16 is not on the list, but a FEW HUNDRED others are. GO HERE to find out if yours is on the list...

    "NVIDIASettlement"

  • your problem STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN.

It's particularlly ANNOYING when someone else does it. I know not to touch them, but I must inform all others NOT to TOUCH them.

This is the PROBLEM with so many manufacturers, not only HP. They sell people things that THEY KNOW DAMN WELL HAVE ISSUES, and this issue IS NOT PERMANANTLY resolvable. What if I bought the product specifically for the "Quick Launch?"

What if it were a prescription drug that was meant to save my life?

  • TWO, by uninstalling all drivers for "quick launch," RE-installing the base drivers for QuickLaunch (the ones that came with the computer), and then updating the drivers from HP.

ALTHOUGH this and the previous fix somewhat resolves the issues (so that the volume / base / treble it isn't taking control and/or wireless going on and off) it does NOT fix it to where you can use it. One brush of your finger, or SOMEONE ELSE TRYING TO TURN THE VOLUME DOWN through the "QuickLaunch," and

  • I have a HDX 16, and I have had the same problems with all the touch buttons including the bluetooth connectivity (blue -> red -> blue and then back again). When it happens, it is enough to make you want to throw the laptop through the window. MORE than annoying, it takes complete control and you can't do anything. I had fixed it in two ways; one, by doing what one of the lower posts suggested (ie. unplugging / disconnecting battery / holding power button to clear cache)

  • Their needs to be a Class action lawsuit on Hp because of this issue. There is no reason for customer to purchase premium product at 1000.00 dollars and up and getting crappy results like this. Does anyone know of any recalls about this matter?

  • i reinstalled the machine with Windows 7 - i then downloaded all the drivers, i no longer have the control that lets you change treble and bass on screen (the thing that makes the clicking sound) but I can manage volume from the touch buttons on the keyboard. For me this is enough as I dont have to hear the constant clicking

  • i have the hp hdx 18 ince august 2009 ..nothing but trouble ...i bought it for 1700 euros and i can tell you this laptop is not worth the money !

  • thats shits happening to me as im typing this comment

  • I had this problem as well, it is static built up in the touch panel. To get rid of it all you have to do is shut it down and unplug the power cord take out battery, then hold the power button for like a minute. Then it is good to go for like a month. I found this only happened if I let the screen sleep then quickly move the keypad once the screen darkened.

  • I got mine back in May and I've had no problems. I got everything maxed out (I don't know if that matters), but this happened once, well a few times with just clicking noises- not a bar thing going back and forth. It only happens when I sometimes change the volume mid-way through a song on itunes. I just gotta right click the itunes window shortcut in the bottom thing XD. Call HP up, they'll try to help :P

  • Hi i have a hdx 16 and some times i have this problem but i instal sp2 update and i resolved the problem.

In Windows 7 RTM amd RC i have a BSOD because the treble and bass buton not work.

    Sory for my bad englesh.

  • i have a HDX and got this problem, and its real fucking annoying. the wireless light would flick from blue to red and back too. however a temporary solution is to ctrl+alt+del, look in processes, terminate the smartmenu.exe program running. this would stop these fluctuations happening on the screen. you can still adjust volume but you wont know by how much, just have to listen, and wireless flicks get more rare.

  • We did everything to get this resolved. I had to send laptop back to HP, as they could not get the problem to stop. This would happen at start-up, with no other programs running.

  • are yo usure you havnt got music playing and its auto calibrating to find the best sound quality setting?

  • call HP 4 the guarantee
