This is REAL hardcore. I would call black flag one of the greatest hardcore bands of all time. The breakdown heavy, jock friendly, bullshit that has polluted the hardcore scene is miles apart from what punk really was about. These days all the hardcore bands are fucking rock star wannabes. This band had more work ethic in their pinkies than any of the bands on the scene today combined. I wish bands these days had the passion these guys had(and still have).

I saw this band 4 times from '81-'82 & it was different every x as the "scene" goes. Mainstream music was changing fast, it was weird to see shit change overnight. Rollins, Chuck, Robo? Look, Greg Ginn WAS Black Flag. Only member from beginning to end, he wrote nearly all the songs (at least the good ones), and there were three vocalists prior to Rollins-- personally I prefer all of them (yeah, even Dez) to Rollins. That's not a dig at Rollins though. Nor at Chuck, Robo, Kira or anyone else, just personal preference. Not to take away from any of the other great Flag members, but Ginn was the heart and soul of it. No Ginn = no Black Flag.
