Phillip Roth's subject mannner is so limited, his scope so limited, the breadth of his ideas of brilliance as a writer so dull, heck, his very writing style is plain and not made up for by the power of it, all he has are interesting stories, which don't make me him worthy of the Noel Prize.

As for the competency, readers of my ilk have no doubt about it.Without any hesitation I would have bestowed it on Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes the Nobel Prize for 2007 for his sheer innovative style and intellectual output . Syrian poet Adonis, Estonian Poet Jaan Kaplinski, Czech writer Milan Kundera, Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa are all equally worthy of the prize.......PGR Nair

When Roberto Benigni and Dario Fo won the Oscar and Nobel, there was a fuss in Italy because they had always behaved as "clowns" and publicly admitted their political (communist) ideas, so the prizes were contested. Perhaps there are too many talents and there is always SOMEBODY ELSE you should recognize. I don't get why you look so affected. Don't you think Lessing deserves the Nobel, AT ALL?

I'm a well-read guy, but I have never heard of this lady till now. It was SO effin funny how she devalued the Nobel prize with a "Oh Christ." Later she said, "I won them all. A royal flush." She's got to be the coolest. After I saw this, I had to go and get one of her books. What a great woman.
