  • look she's not using an ovation guitar!!!

  • nice jazzy rendition!

  • Stanley Jordan would be her Father, just kidding

  • that guitar looks massive on her.

  • what is the name of this song, album?

  • @Unstucked Carmine street, on "Every body loves you" album =)

  • @Unstucked LOL I was about to re answer your question :D

  • Others who fancied themselves guitar experts have said that she should stick to acoustic. I just don't get that. She makes absolutely the most out the electrics I've heard her play.

  • She put a smile on my face for the first time this week, watching her. And how could people talk through that?

  • relevance is the moment u sit and enjoy or not, nothing more or less.

  • Comment removed

  • Dam unique playing.....combination of percussive, guitar, simulated keyboard....Love it!

  • This is a great song. It's a good song to walk to with your headphones on. Like, when it's raining. It's got a great feel like a Tortoise song or something.

  • woww... talented and charming and lezzie... so sexy! <3 <3

  • Meiserterin der Saiten

  • Amen to that.

  • if you like percussive guitar check The Yuya

  • Does anyone know what song is this?? I'd sure like to hear it without all those voices in the background >:B

  • @cherrybomb53

    Carmine Street

  • @cherrybomb53

    Carmine St.

  • How could all those people in the background talk through that?

  • @metalheaven

maybe she's at a club, imagine that...

who cares, but i actually just found King here on yew-tube. I play a similar style and when i'm at the local troglodyte music store, and play unique crap, i get looked at as if i was from Niburu. Uniqueness is all that matters, all people hear is the programming they are supposed to hear, so when uniqueness comes around, some shun this. I guess we can't blame them, they don't understand the why's themselves...lol

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Dude this is like the third comment of yours that I have found in the past couple days. This is getting creepy hahaha!

  • @wretchrow

well we must obviously have similar tastes, that's cool. But yes, i am creepy, lol. I actually play a very percussive guitar style(electric also, 8 string), more on line with Stephen Barone, Erik Mongrain, and some original crap i've created...

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Do you record that stuff and put it up anywhere? That sounds awesome, and your youtube channel appears to be private so I'm assuming you don't upload anything here.

  • @wretchrow

actually i have one song on reverbnation, i'll send you more info in a PM. The song is very dark, and very fitting to what they requested. I will be uploading some guitar work soon, maybe a youtube video as well as i've been told that some of the things i've done on the guitar,so why not do some vids.I'm a massive fan of what i call Ambient Rock(shoegazer),so i'm going to try my best this winter to pump out some cool ambient stuff like God is an Astronaut,Lights out Asia,Mogwai, etc)

  • @metalheaven people usually dont go to shows for music

  • does everyone know what guitar she is using? not ovation this time

  • She´s using a Gretsch Spectra Sonic Lead... model: G6143

  • good girlfriend

  • haha trying to move your hair out of the way..

well looks like you don't have to worry about that now lol

    what with the short hair..

    great look =p

  • wow SHE has the same sound that Stanley Jordan she's good... pretty and good

  • Bad sound (recording), but Kaki is always Amazing!

    5*s

  • very very slow version of carmine street... but maybe it's the heavy guitar slowing her down :-0

kaki's terrific as usual ... so humble.

  • yeah.. i don't think i've seen her play with that guitar before.. hrm..

  • nah, i think its just a special liveversion.. heavier guitars doesnt slow you down.

  • that a hot gibson les paul she's playing on..

  • its not : P

  • i know.. just wanted to have someone spazz..

  • haha sure you wanted to.. its not like you couldve had wrong.. noooo you PLANNED this.

  • intense

  • anyone know what guitar she got?

  • Gretsch Spectra Sonic Baritone

  • it might be a TV jones guitar

  • I want to see her performing live :(

  • i dreamt, i were sleeping in an elevator.

    ;-)

  • better an elevator than a mosh pit...

  • She looks like Amelie Mauresmo

  • in response to her 'Rush' comment, i love kaki, and have listened to her ever since i picked up Legs 4 years ago. i think her new direction, though dramatically different, is brilliant. that being said, i dont see why she cant be more open minded. several years ago, before she took off (relatively speaking) i saw her making disparaging remarks about steve vai on a forum. it bums me when i think about the music shes missing out on because its 'hip' to be minimalist.

  • wat forum?

  • it was some sort of q&a thing that had finished by the time i checked it out something to the tune of 3 years ago now. think it was associated with her official page.

  • sarah silverman? shes ugly and un-talented quite unlike Kaki king.

  • ok calm down all i just said they look alike in this all that was not necessary

  • what all i said was that she looked like sarah silverman in this why is everyone getting upset damm its not that serious

  • Jeez, that guitar must be tuned pretty low. other than that, awsum version of carmine st

  • it's fantastic!!

  • This song is called Carmine St

  • which song is this? it has a pretty sound.

  • this is much differen't than the original though

  • its a shame shes so amazing, she needs a better sound system.

  • Kaki, gitarın kralıdır.

kaki, is king of the guitar.

your performance wonderful in turkish ntv

  • Queen?

  • i love you kaki king

  • Who gives a shit about Rush? go watch Rush videos then?

  • Just ponting out the brilliance of someone who makes instrumentation a priority in her

music and then puts down musicians who are known to encompass the epitome of that same priority. Hey, she is a lesbian, maybe she opposes gay marriage too....lol.

  • HAHA FUNNY...not so much...i would run away from Rush to. Its called opinion..everyones entitled. Just because your favorite band is Rush and shes a talented musician doesn't mean she has to like them. Or are you just now going to say shes homophobic for now apparent reason.

  • Wow you are responding with the same "logic" she did on the analysis. I was pointing out the contradiction that someone who lists instrumental talent as a priority in her music, but can't see the intrumental talent in what many would say is the most intrumentally talented band in rock. Has nothing to do with taste, Rush isn't even my favorite band, but even I can tell the difference between taste and talent where even she has to have the ability to do the same IF she poesses such talent....

  • Ah ok I understand it...sorry if i came off a little harsh there I was quite vexed. people like to hate on her for the strangest reasons and sometimes I feel the need to vent my frustrations with society. Very weird of doing it I agree. but hey your response was reasonable so it was worth it. I just thought your original comment lacked a little...well, logic, and although I still disagree I see where your coming from.

  • She is an idiot, this is what she said about Rush "Somehow, Rush can still sell out arenas. If I was sitting in row one, I would take my chair, unbolt it from the ground and run away." --Kaki King

Yeah, she is brilliant isn't she? Hell, I have yet to meet a musician that doesn't like Rush so she must not be one....

  • Yes - Kaki simply choosing to run away from a Rush gig is unusual. In that position I would have to rip my ears off first...

  • Yeah, and in that case Kaki should have never showed up in first place, at least Rush play all out for what they do. Gotta love a woman who is out of the closest on her sexual orientation, but is buried so deep in the closest on prioity of musical instrumentation she is finding Christmas gifts....It's like someone saying they found a lost tape of Randy Rhoads saying "Hendrix sucks!"....just not gonna happen....

  • you know, even if you ripped your ears off, you would still be able to hear, since the ear drums are inside =)

  • Rush is great, but I dont see the relevance.

  • lol awesome irrelevance

  • you're secretly a member of Rush aren't you, LOL.

  • its secretly kaki king and she's just pulling a publicity stunt! :-D

  • one word... August Rush... look it up... if she is so bad, then why did they use here for the film????

  • she just keeps frowning like "hmm that doesnt sound right"

  • If she weren't a woman she wouldn't be able to make a living as a musician. Because she doesn't just strum an acoustic guitar and sing in a girlish voice the industry sees her as a marketable novelty. There's nothing terribly musically interesting going on here. I liked this crap better when Ani DiFranco did it fifteen years ago.

  • You are ignorant!

The counterpoint between the bass and harmony is extraordinary, and it's being created by a single instrument.

All DiFranco does is arpeggiate chords.

Again, I re-iterate, you are ignorant.

  • Boy she really likes to hammer-on doesn't she?

  • I thought is was strap-on.

  • that's what she said.

  • nice one :)

  • Could someone please tell me what guitar that is?

  • It looks to be a TV Jones guitar, the C Melody Baritone to be exact. They are a suped up gretsch kinda. I say this becauseBrian setzer has one like it.

  • thats it!

  • This is a very cool song, very textural.

I like the determination on her face.

  • In hungarian the Kaki means shit!xD Really!I'm hungarian!

  • you're hungry for Kaki??

    hahaha

    just kiddin'.

  • hehe :S

  • in estonian (children language) it´s the same.

but we also have the proverb wich goes like "name does´nt spoil the person". and I must admit, that´s very true. Kaki´s one of the greatest and many-sides musicians around.

  • Kaki is her nickname. Her real name is Katherine.

  • There can be more than one musician in this style you know

  • their there they're

use of the words is taught in elementary school

  • She just copies the style and songs that Michael Hedges created many, many years ago. Actually the song "Ritual Dance" from August Rush movie is an original composition by Hedges (who died in 1997 in a car accident), search for the original here at Youtube or listen to the Taproot record. On the other hand she is very talented in order to play this difficult kind of music.

  • I just saw her live last night. it was SICK. she and her band rocked.

  • The reason we love Kaki.

    Carmine St. <3

  • She is so cute.

    She's really a beautiful woman.

  • Pretty good. Check out Jon Gomm an English dude with a similar talent, except he sings as well!

  • ..... she plays complete improvised. its how she feels at the momment and besides she now specialises in acoutic. check out the movie August Rush. Thats kaki kings music

  • well this is not improv but he's still an asshole for comparing those guys to kaki..

    COMPLETELY DIFFRENT STYLE

  • agreed!

  • ..... she plays complete improvised. its how she feels at the momment and besides she now specialises in acoutic. check out the movie August Rush. Thats kaki kings music

  • well thats not completely true man (the part of COMPLETE improvized) because this song its on one of her albums (Everybody Loves you) its called Carmine st. ,and yeah i saw August Rush but she only plays two songs on it, in the other hand Into the Wild its filled up with her music (akmost completely)...

  • Actually, Eddie Veddar composed the majority of that soundtrack.

  • yeah i just found out but there are really good kaki songs on it...

  • are you kidding me, shes an incredible artist with an incredible talent, can you do what shes doing? no, its very hard, for everyone who enjoys her style, search Gary Seber, hes pretty good

  • Actually i can :D, but i am no where near better or equal to her in creating music of this style

  • saw her last night at the tracter tavern in seattle. incredible. her records are no indication of how live she is. very, very electric

  • Talented lady.

  • Sorry, am I interrupting ur whore time ?

We want to watch kaki king and maybe have an intelligent discussion.

No, we don't want to hear ur sexual fantasies.

  • but i want her to fingertap me..

  • you are scum

  • shouldn't you be watching xtube dip shit

  • WTF!!! leave sex out of it!! she's a phenomanol composure, and that's it. you want sex, go look at a skin mag ya sick perverts. she's amazing at what she does, and if you can do better, than do it. pick up a guitar, or any instrument for that matter, and do it. and maintain that "fuckable" posture, and i'm sure you won't have it. ya retards. appreciate music. not sex

  • You are a total dirtbag.

  • in mine kaki means foot

  • u can tell she talented by the guitars she uses....thats a gretsch spectrasonic i think i know its a gretsch

  • Yes it is.

  • And he ovation shes always seen playing is a badass acoustic. i have one, not only do they look awesome they sound awesome.

  • so a kaki !!

  • Breathtaking!

you can tell she is talented because she isnt using power chords and crappy metal riffs like the majority of guitar players do now-adays.

No one can diss her because she isnt playing at her limit, im more than certain that she is playing ability is much higher than what is demonstrated here.

  • She looks like shes about to turn to us and kick our asses. XDDDD

  • Nope, I found this performance absolutely boring, even though it's obvious that she's extremely talented...

I must admit that I watched the whole video because she's cute, if it had been a fat bald guy with tatoos playing the same stuff I would have left this page earlier^^

  • this kind of composition seems like parts are almost by accident.. ala..tune up wierd and experiment.. but thers talent there..

  • beautiful music

  • a question to all who posted a comment! How many guitarist does it take to screw in a light bulb? 100! one to screw the light blub in, and 99 to sit back and say, "i can do that!" much smiles!

  • Shes good but so many people can do this and guitar center magazine thing i got this week said she was over the top amazing. Im not hatin im just sayin its not what i expected cause they talked her up to much.

  • Yep, she's good . . . and getting better as a composer/writer. Lots of talent.

  • Checkout stanley jordan, tommy emmanuel, michael hedges, andy mckee, randy rhodes just about any other guitarist this is begginer/entry level basic ability stuff!

  • It might be entry level but she's still good I want to see you do any better.

  • How tall is she? The guitar is like 3 times her size.

  • 5 foot tall.

  • şelpee :)

  • this is so good. the electronic aspect is giving me some major pinback vibes.

  • Wow, Carmine sure sounds different on an electric and with background music.

  • she´s so cool!

  • 1. This woman can really play guitar very, very well.

    2. DEATH TO TOUCH STYLE!!!!!!

  • Give me a good reason for statement #2

  • Can anyone tell me the name of this song? XD

Ive heard this in some of her videos but i didnt catch the name yet.

  • I do Belive its called Carmine St.

From her "Everybody Loves You" album. :D

  • "Yeah"!!!!Everyones ripping-off Michael Hedges and PRESTON REED and trying to make out they invented this style of playing ! Kaki king is great but the 'student is never greater than the Master. "Check the Master out".

  • The student is often greater than the master. You have a master and a student so that the student can progress with the master's help and then get better. All teachers want their students to surpass them. I don't know the people you're talking about, and I'm not debating that. But I'm sure if any of them WERE her Master they'd be HAPPY for her to learn all they taught her and improve upon it and surpass them. I think Ms King would eagerly suggest listening to the earlier works mentioned.

  • "Everyones ripping-off Michael Hedges and PRESTON? REED"

Huh? Using a technique another guitar pioneered is "ripping them off"?! All artists borrow from other artist, it's how an art forms evolve. If it was taboo to do anything anyone else has done, people would still be playing lutes and shit. There's be no slides, no capos, no picks, no electric guitars, no steel string guitars, no electric guitars, nobody would ever bend a string or use the right hand to fret notes, and much more.

  • amen...

altough Kaki said that she learned the technique from Preston Reed..

  • "If you all really want to know where Kaki's inspiration comes from - Listen to 'her Master '-PRESTON REED! Along with the late great Michael Hedges - he is the true pioneer of this alternate style of playing. Watch also the great Stanley Jordan.

  • everyone must be ripping off the beatles for playing rock music too.

  • who totally ripped off black people in the 50's when they made it! and also debussy for playing piano with his hands! obviously mozart made that popular first! XD

  • she's obviously inspired by hedges, people. so fucking what? she's still great. we all have influences.

  • Hedges is Great, but she's inspired by Preston Reed..

and amen for the we all have influences one...

  • i love her music and her style. its just what i was looking for.

  • wau, es alucinante... esta morra toca increible, me dejo con la voca avierta..

  • The music of kaki comes from a free spirited place. It's not cut out to fit into popular opinion. Even this comment is a moot point, because Kaki's music is of her, for her, and that we can hear it is a wonderful experience. Enjoy, because many complain that today's musicians are devoid of talent. Well, obviously not. Love your work, kaki!!!!

  • I don't care what she is, she did the most amazing song in august rush, and I think she is awesome

  • awesome

  • Awesome!!!

  • she's a lesbian but still feminine. ur a dyke.

  • Why does it matter? She's an amazing musician. If all you care about is that, then you obviously can appreciate the music.

  • (i think) you're a git.

  • triloco!!!!! 3x loco
