I always loved playing online games where I'd completely lose track of time, and just forget myself, and focus on something completely with abandon. I don't play online games anymore. But I don't regret playing them, my conclusion for my obsessive hours playing was basically, “this is what it means to really enjoy something.” I've felt that way about books I've read also.

How ironic the title is. it is basically summed up as "Video games hit the SUCCESS receptors in the brain" It makes you feel like you are accomplishing things in life when you are really not. It also has an element of competition, which attracts more men then women which is why we play video games more on average. You should make a video on mind control; How society portrays attractive woman to be smart but smart men to be geeks.
Escaping from real-life anxieties is also an excuse for playing that just simplifies your issue. Most teenagers are anxious, as life grows more and more complicated and more is expected from you on all arenas in life. This is where games come in to make it all easier for you, instead of learning to cope with life like practicly every life-form, including humans have to. Compare it to the learning curve of a class in WoW, real life is a learning curve too.

The Sims is boring.... WOW was like everquest on disney. Play some older Elder Scrolls man.. those were hard and challenging. Arena and Daggerfall were good... role playing games to me are about finding things out yourself....thinking through puzzles, taking that risk. In daggerfall you start out with almost nothing and have to fight your way out... now we have oblivion which tells you where to go and what to do theres no self in it. . Pretty girls on here dam.

There's no reason stated as to why pleasure in real life is more important than "real life pleasure derived from a video game." The only thing is if you aren't productive in real life, you might not have enough money. However, if you do have enough...I don't see the harm.
I guess the only thing to say to that is, that without your real life, you can't continue the video game life. So indirectly you are obligated to maintain your real life needs, which CAN be interfered with by constant maintenance of only your video game life. However keep in consideration the mode age for WoW players. You can't be like that forever.

A better example is tournements. Many games can be played competitively. In fact Guild wars (better than WoW) has had quite a few $50,000 prizes, and is having a $100,000 tournement here soon.
Also, something that's frowned upon... private servers. There are plenty of private servers for games like Ragnarok Online that are usually just for fun (free)... but a number of people take donations to pay for server upkeep. Those donations in addition to advertisements on their home page, in some cases, DO add up to a nice little income.
Plus, playing a lot of video games can help someone understand the market, and possibly enter a legitimate carrier in video game design.
Not all games use that psychological perspective, the Sims 2 used it, but it was no secret, the devs did it in a way that the sims could mirror more accurately the nature of a human being. The grind mmo pay to play style goes more with the former psychological viewpoint in my opinion, its based on stimuli. Mostly that is the case with many video games such as shooters or racing games. Nice presentation hope to see more.

Oh, so that was the problem I had while playing WoW, I wasn't fulfilling my Belonging need and Esteem need. *Sigh* they really need a meter for that.... Or a buff. There's no reason stated as to why pleasure in real life is more important than "real life pleasure derived from a video game." The only thing is if you aren't productive in real life, you might not have enough money. However, if you do have enough...I don't see the harm.

I guess the only thing to say to that is, that without your real life, you can't continue the video game life. So indirectly you are obligated to maintain your real life needs, which CAN be interfered with by constant maintenance of only your video game life. However keep in consideration the mode age for WoW players. You can't be like that forever.

I'd put like this, Im an economist, I learned that men will always act in the rational pathway, that is, everybody will always maximize utility and minimize cost. Warcraft minimized the cost of the upper size of the pyramid so everybody, .... considered to be rational, will buy choose this way to get self actualization and stuff.

Good job with the video! I can't agree with you more, as I am a video game addict myself. Now, this is my opinion but, I feel you left something out, that it lets people leave there world, for what ever reason. that they can have full control of the being in the game, with limited strings attatched. That they control the persons fate. Thats why RPG games make a lot of money, because you can basically restart your life, but at the cost of the one you already have. Thats the reason I got addicted.

my boyfriend and roommate are addicted to WoW! from the moment they get up in the morning to the moment they get home from work to the moment they go to bed...world of warcraft is on their computers. they even plan their days according to guild events. my poor kitties litter box and house work go undone sometimes because if i ask my boyfriend to do it while i am working, he forgets and is on the game all day...i hate it. (but i do play occationally, i just also do things in REAL LIFE!!)

No such thing as impossible. It's frowned upon, but a LOT of people make a LOT of money selling in game gold for real world cash. I've made a few bucks here and there from RL friends I've helped in game. Yes, you CAN make money via video games.
A better example is tournements. Many games can be played competitively. In fact Guild wars (better than WoW) has had quite a few $50,000 prizes, and is having a $100,000 tournement here soon.

Also, something that's frowned upon... private servers. There are plenty of private servers for games like Ragnarok Online that are usually just for fun (free)... but a number of people take donations to pay for server upkeep. Those donations in addition to advertisements on their home page, in some cases, DO add up to a nice little income.
Plus, playing a lot of video games can help someone understand the market, and possibly enter a legitimate carrier in video game design.

Not all games use that psychological perspective, the Sims 2 used it, but it was no secret, the devs did it in a way that the sims could mirror more accurately the nature of a human being. The grind mmo pay to play style goes more with the former psychological viewpoint in my opinion, its based on stimuli. Mostly that is the case with many video games such as shooters or racing games. Nice presentation hope to see more.

Not bad at all. One of the few that actually mentions what a game addiction is and not that all gamers suffer from it. Kind of leary about the next set of videos, but this one brings up some very good points.
If you're ignoring other, more important things in your life (marriage, school, work, etc) to play games, then yeah, you're probably addicted. But just because you play a few hours a day on your free time doesn't mean you have a problem.

I thought the old Nintendo classics "The Legend of Zelda" or "Metroid" were the greatest video games ever.
The best current games are Call of Duty 4 and 5. Great violence, fast paced, and requiring tactics.
