  • For those interested, I recently uploaded the Tomita version to YouTube. Unfortunately, it had to be split into 2 parts due to the 15 min. time limit. Such a shame. The first part is 3:04 and the second is 14:35. Here is part 1: youtube.com/watch?v=F3sH-KtcfAk

  • 4:29-star wars????anyone?anyone?

  • I kind of like the choir part but then my sister pointed out that it sort of sounds like a Disney movie (like the really old school Cinderella, etc) and now I can't listen to it the same way! But this performance is absolutely incredible regardless

  • @brisw28. I can definitely hear that. This would have been a great piece for one of the Fantasia movies.

  • @brisw28 thanks, ur just like ur sister, now its happening to me!!!! jks the while time the flute plas i think of the jungle book (disney)

  • The texture is crustal clear and the sonority is also palpably warm and sensuous; in effect, this is the ideal performance of this magnificent work, and the best I've heard. I think Bernstein was at his greatest during his NY Phil days. What a great orchestra this was!

  • 3:34 is so beautiful

  • 2:25 at this part I always picture myself on some spaceship flying through the atmosphere of some other Earthlike planet.

  • Oh yes, this is exactly how I feel. It's like being transported to some wonderful place. Can you just imagine what it must be like to be in the middle of an orchestra like this?

  • @babydrane Mmmmm. "Something wonderful."

  • this is an amazing performance. and to think the orchestral balance and clarity with a forward-moving musical line without fancy mics and mixing. this is great.

  • This is by far the most amazing performance of this suite I've ever heard. Every melody is clearly defined and articulate, the huge orchestra remains light and precise at this rapid tempo, and, most importantly, the original choir part is not left out!

  • @coasterman16: That's probably one of the things I appreciated most about the Tomita rendition of this: The choir-part was strong and intense.
