A UTube reply from Tony Vaguely! Thanks. That makes me want to do The Tantrum. I actually bought Teris book hoping there would be a Chapter (a story even) devoted to The Cool Ones. Alright, I was hoping shed slept with Gil Peterson. But nary a mention of him or the film. A popular pirate site that used to sell it dropped it from their catalogue. Perhaps Warners (or some other party) has activated the copyright with a DVD release in mind. Zero cool!
II have a pretty darn premo dvd copy, not widescreen of course.. doing a cover of the Tantrum but as Tony Crum, next week at a party.. I dubbed a loop of the instrumental Tantrum off of a old vhs copy,,twice as long than the movie, still holds up. I wanted to do a sequel, The Cool Ones Today,, they're all yuppies now but still think they are The Cool Ones.. Help I had Tantrum and I can't get up!! LO I have a six-sheet poster in my hall, Terri would have been lucky.. he's so hot... .
STILL the all time champ for choreographed go go dance numbers I've ever scene. Period. It even blows real-life go-go routines from old Shindig and etc. out of the water! Marilynn Fowler is genious!! xxx
Check out my Bio of Gil Peterson (the real Cliff Donner), star of The Cool Ones, on IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base). Its quite a story and was a lot of fun to research. See the Gil Peterson Message Board, Gils Bio. Its also posted on Mrs. Millers website, under Gil Peterson. Did you know that The Cool Ones was initially supposed to star Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood?
Gil Peterson was the better & way sexier choice tho wonder how Nancy would've handled it. Debbie and Gil had great chemistry. if this had been made 3 yrs. earlier it would've been a big hit.. still, cult status is more fitting for The Cool Ones. Too bad Teri Garr didn't get credit, she actually was in quite a lot of it with dialogue. I am still in shock they have never released this on dvd in all its Panavision splendor.. Warner is absolutely clueless, or the rights have been mangled somewhere.
It's to my detriment that I've never seen this movie, and I further regret that I didn't manage to catch this swingin' stage production either.
The next time I hit the discotheque, I will most assuredly be "having a Tantrum!" The way these kooky kids perform it, it's obviously the newest dance sensation.
I wish! I think we're all way too old to do any dancin' like that anymore! LOL.. I think an updated version in the 21st century might be funny where all the same characters still think they're the cool ones and still have the same clothes and 60's kitsch but are so out of touch with the world that's it funny.. (or tragic!!) LOL..
i'm so glad marilynn took over the reins as it where and choreograhed this, i think i tried to do it in the beginning but couldn't get it up...tony you should wear that hair and clothes all the time, it's ok to be out of touch as long as you look GROOOVY!
This needs to be done on "Dancing With The Stars" this season!!!
