If U2 were Norwegian this track would've be called Den svarte katten. But they were Irish. Fact of the day, brought to you by yooanoozarrmay @ youtube
Catholicism is a sect not a religon and Christianity is to a religon. Christianity is not religon then I guess Islam,Wicca,Hinduism,Buddhism, Judaism,Taoism,Atheism and etc. aren't ones either then.
Catholicism, Islam, Wicca, Hindusims, Buhdism etc............are all religions because they are Organized, controlled, and regulated by man.
Christiantiy is not. This is why Christianity is NOT a Religion, but rather a "Faith Based way of living" in Christianity we live by Faith and Faith alone in God without any rules or regulations created by or organized by man.
As Christians our relationship with Christ is direct and personal without any interferance form man.
The christianity thing with U2, is this some sort of post-modern joke? Or is it real? I mean, anyone who has any sort of education knows that the Jesus story is a fairytale? No? Or am i living in the truman show?
To answer your question...........Nope, it's not a post-modern joke. U2 are indeed the biggest Christian Rock band to ever exist. The secret to becomming so successful as a Christian rock band was to carefuly place their lyrics into the songs in such a way that only those who are familiar with biblical scripture would recognize them. And no you are not living in the Truman Show, but you are living as a Deceived inidividual.
@Felixstryker I think it's a wild exagerration to call U2 a christian rock band. after all, I remember reading where Bono said something along the lines of where organized religion comes in, spirituality goes out the door. I think Bono's interest in connecting with things bigger than himself is less specific than 'christian' and I highly doubt that his intention with his lyrics is to preach the gospel so much as to express something within himself.
Well "Moonlily1" your comment is a perfect example of you being a U2 Fand without understanding the Christianity embeded within it. You are correct with Bono's Comment about organized religion.......But you are incorrect about your assumption and confusion of mixing Christianity with Catholocism. Catholocism is an organized religion, where Christianity is NOT, as a matter of fact it is not even a religion, but instead a way of living based on pure faith in the creator.
Indeed, I read the lyrics to that song, and people who do not believe in God will not understand its meaning, but those who do can clearly see that the line that is repeeated over and over again in the song "I believe in Love" is Bono saying he believes in GOD as God is pure love.
As I see it, they are indeed mainstream, but mostly because the mainstream adapted to them and not them adapting so much to the mainstream. And well... being mainstream doesn't need to be inherently bad.
@ HarmonicsExplorer: You are incorrect and as I stated...you can't understand the Christian background or lyrics of U2 because you do not know or understand biblical scripture. They are a Christian Rock band and always have been...the only difference is that they never verbaly announced that to their fans........Why? because they knew that their Christian fans would already know that and that thery non-Christian fans would not. But their Christian message...they have been spreading since album 1
You are indeed correct - U2 are a very spiritual rock n roll group and their faith almost led to the break up of the band shortly after this record. They choose not to pronounce their christianity because they know that their fans will know where thaty are coming from anyway,
Indeed if you get Bono or Larry in an interview they have no problem telling you about their Christian Faith. But it is something they chose to kinda put aside from the spotlight of their music and conceal it within the lyrics of the songs so that non-Christians would enjoy their music without knowing the message that is within it. But us Christians totaly get U2 Lyrics because we know scripture. Non-Believers only hear cool sounding tunes and fun words.
@Felixstryker It sounds like you think that U2's songs means something only to Christians. I believe in God but I wouldn't call me Christian. Does that mean that I don't understand their songs? Everyone make out songs in their own way.
No.............. is what it means is that you are not able to understand the Christian Message within the lyrics because the spirit does not reside in you.
U2 has been extremely clever in their lyrics over the years as to Preach the word of God to all the unbelievers who listen to there songs, while having fellowship with those who are already followers of Christ at the same time.
U2 is the biggest Christian Rock band to ever exist, with most of its listeners not even realizing that they are listening to Christian music.....If you do not know biblical scripture, then you will not be able make the lyrical connection to biblical scripture when listening to U2. They are an extremely intelligent band that has been spreading a christian message through there music for over 30 years. The power of God has worked through there music to help spread a true message to all people.
A great rock band with lyrics that are completely influenced by Christianity and scripture. U2 are the most successful Christian Rock band in the world and yet most of their listeners do not even realize this fact because they do not know the biblical scripture that the majority of t heir lyrics are based on. There music sends a message of peace, love, frogivness equality among all mankind and a will to go what is good. Amen
Alright, Pop is not a good album but " All that you can't leave behind" was again succesfully. And there are good numbers in their last 2 albums. But alright, the old U2 is still better with songs like "Where the streets have no name" and so on.
u2 from the eighties were absolutely brilliant . this song is just one of those magical songs from albums like boy and october.they never reached this quality anymore in the last 10 years or so.
However on there New Album "No Line On The Horizon" There are finally some really good tracks that shadow the style of Achtung Baby, which is probably what makes their newest album Have Decent.
If you have it.....check out "Moment Of Surrender" ........One of Bono's Best Vocal performances since Achtung.
For me "The unforgettable fire," was the last good album they put out. Even then it lacked something that "Boy," "War," and "October," had. You could see them getting away from their roots. I miss the "Old," U2 and don't like who they've become at all musically. This album was a gift from U2 to al lof us.
You don;t think "Pride," and parts of "Joshua Tree," had merit? Burt I am with you for the most part. The change was with "War." They evolved into something that is not the original U2. Something too "Mainstream," for me. The general public loved them all the more as their music reached the masses.
i called it quits after war. i liked pride and a few of their later songs, but 2 me the original sound was lost.
in the early 80's i had a bunch of u2 bootleg albums. each album (a different performance) was almost a completely different take on each of their songs.
truly a great band though! their still 2gether after 30+ years!
Thanks, No Problem, that fact that this song never gets any air time definately played a big role in why I put it up on youtube. Plus it is one of my Favorite U2 Songs.
from making videos for the whole album,i realised this wasn't the only song on it that crossfaded into the next.while this runs into into heart, into the heart runs into out of control.and the electric co. runs into shadows and tall trees.its not obvious just kinda faint, coz they're at queit bits.
I agree, I listened to these guys since junior high back then boy octber and war were it...i stopped buying their records after Joshua tree, they could only milk that sound for so long...same with early REM, oh well
Relax ...I meant the sound they had on there first 3 albums. They started to evolve on War and by J. Tree they had a different sound. And their subsequent albums were different as well. My point is, I really liked the early u2 music, but I also realize bands change over time. If you like the later stuff good for you but I don't care for it. Cheers?!?!?!?!?!?
Now this was some seriously good U2. They really had a sound back then that I wish they had choses to stick with. For me the last decent album they put out was Auchtung.
Wow, I haven't heard this song for a long time and I still love it. It's not a song I think alot of people know about because it's one of their older ones. (Their loss)
From their first North American released Album. But it is true,,,so many people have no Idea that U2 has been playing as a band for 30 years, or the fact that they have lots of other albums. I personaly like U2 up to and including Auchtung Baby...Everything after that I am not too big on.
I know! I've always thought all their stuff up to Achtung was pure classic, but after that they seemed to lose what had made their music so great. A few good songs here and there, but not much. I was disappointed.
