  • They should just go ahead and give Data his own show like Captian of a new Enterprise.

  • Gonna be the BIGGEST MONEY MAKING MOVIE OF ALL TIME? *Cough*Yeah*Cough*Right!

  • I love this guy. I love Data!

  • Brent seems to have a legitimately nice personality.

  • @Slikrik1212

He is really a amazingly nice guy

  • "I think there are one hundred and forty one speaking roles in the movie."

    MFW Data lives

    MFW I have no face

  • is that you Lore? character behaviour and mimic if very much Lore.

  • Androids are people too!

  • I also think Arik Soong was the best Character in Enterprise.

  • worf has a vagina on his head

  • @jimmy20i0 i always thought worf's head looked like a snickers bar

  • His Neural Net was experiencing disruption brought on by sub space Tachyon emissions coming from the Deveron system during this interview

  • @JSANDFS1 you talk to your mother with that mouth

  • Wow, audiences were easily pleased in the 90s...

  • Why do I just love Brent Spiner so much?? I guess all of us Trekkie girls had a secret crush on Data... C'mon... just think of the possibilities!!!! ;-)

  • @ThisLadyIsNotTheSame I sure had a crush on Data

  • @ThisLadyIsNotTheSame he's fully functional...

  • @masterfistlord at least all his functions working within normal parameters

  • I hope Data didin't malafunction after the show...

  • Guess Letterman doesn't watch Star Trek TNG...

  • fuck this was 15 years ago. Where has time gone.

  • @dvarblo That is a very good question.

  • 0:23 HOLY SHIT DID BRENT JUST..

nahhh I bet it was his stunt double.

  • Spiner > Letterman

  • I thought Brent Spiner was taller.

  • @WyldeMax

    He's 5'11" according to the IMDB.com

  • @TheDigitalRose Explains quite a bit. I met Patrick Stewart, and I presumed he was taller than me. But I was taller than him, by at least five inches. For some reason I always assumed, wrongly it seems, that Data was taller than the captain. I just goes to show how TV alters your perception.

  • @WyldeMax

Yes, but that's part of the joy of TV, to alter the perception of reality ;) None of the Ferengi are above 5'7" I think Jeffrey Combs who played Brunt was/is the tallest. But, then I am only 5'3" so just about everyone is taller than me :)

  • @TheDigitalRose Yeah, I'm 6'4", and I barely fit inside of a fighter when I was in the Air Force. LOL

  • man, Letterman never fails to be a moron.

  • Fantastic actor.

  • Wow, I didn't realize Data was the guy from Night Court!

  • Dave really aged over the past 15 years

  • This cold, inhuman, mechanic, pale, weird, disgusting, ugly, sociopathic pervert is interviewing a brilliant android who did not deserve to get asked such stupid questions.

  • He is more like Lore than he is like Data =P

  • data rules hes the best ever period !!!!!!!

  • independence day sucks why Brent why?

  • @THEPAINE552 Independence Day was very good. Not great, but very good. Totally unoriginal, bordering on plagiarism, predictable, etc. etc...and still very entertaining.

  • First of all, I totally agree with onetrueslave's comment. You are so right. Besides that: Isn't Brent just a great guy? What a talented actor and a funny guy.

  • Letterman never changes, tho boy, he really let himself go, why David?

  • Data was my fav character from TNG

  • @CCTV9 yea it always a toss up between wolf and data for me

  • He was the doctor in Independence Day!

  • i have a business installing styrofoam nuns fuck a fruit basket

  • This man is a genius!

  • I don't know why, but Brent looks really unusual without the pale silvery skin.

  • Brent Spiner seems like the type of guy who has a great attitude towards his career. Good man.

  • Brent Spiner>Dave Letterman

  • @Kitinetnies Dave who?

  • Brent is cool as steel

  • 5 minutes is not nearly enough time with Brent.

  • that Zeframe wanted to sell his ship to, or probally a very important person, or people. And, had alot of help from others that joined him to build the ship. His friend, or he himself, did mention it took alot of effort to try to collect titanium, or the such, just to make the outter haul of the Phoniex. Why did (or do) think the Queen is the dumbest of the Borg? Then again, everyone is intittled to their oppinion.

  • @Ashenion22 What was great about picard from tv was that Picard was this highly enlightened and moral leader. The borg thing hurt him, but he got over it, and he didnt even take the opportunity to destroy them all when they found that lone borg, because he reasoned they were a race to. To make Picard this dumbed down action figure who went nuts and started shooting everything was purely done to appeal to mass audiences. Also- idiots fall for it and see it as actual good writing.

  • @otherjr so, would I be considered as an idiot to really like this movie?

  • the construction of the phoenix. The borg queen was dumb because it totally takes away from the idea of the borg as unstoppable. That was the whole point, that you could only view them as one mind. Of course mainstream audiences need a tangible bad guy, so lets pull the borg queen out of our asses and use her. Its not like her role in the movie is even defined in anyway. Its not like she was there just to ge Data, but that seems to be all she cares about.

  • They could then have focused on humanities great effort to become warp capable, let us actualy feel the humanity, instead of letting the whole pheonix thing almost become a B-story by the end. Instead they just shoved as much crap in as possible.

  • @otherjr "B story"? Like the Enterprise B?

  • @Ashenion22 What? B Story as in the A story and the B story. The main and the supporting. I actually thought this was the best TNG movie, but to mistake sloppy writing and total character assassination for something really good is pretty idiotic.

  • Independence Day was horrible.

  • @Superphilipp : It was great!

Sorry, my opinion negates your opinion. :)

  • @chaoscleaner Damn.

  • @Superphilipp [G] Thumbs up to your reaction to my comment. :)

  • Datta Dayta Datta.

  • "Star Trek First Contact" was filmed then, and by one critic from the "Star Trek Ex Astris Scienta" rated the film 10 out of 10. So, the second movie of Data (Star Trek TNG's cast) was second to none as being one of the best Trek movies of the time.

  • @Ashenion22 First Contact was shit.

  • @otherjr bull-shit it was.....bytheway, why was it to you?

  • @Ashenion22 Captain Picard acted totally out of character the whole movie, how anyone can have bought that 'i will make them pay' scene is beyond me. Also nothingmade any sense. Who exactly was Cochrane going to sell his ship to? How the hell did he even build it? Were the Borg trying to stop first contact, or just assimiliate everything? The borg queen was the dumbest thing in the universe. Basically it was just like someone took a dumb action movie, and bad trek and then mashed it together.

  • @otherjr First of all, do you remember the battle of Wolf 359? Perhaps there is the great possibility that that is what the captain was trying to say, why he said that he will make them pay for the damage that they have done. But, also, when Data had said that billions on Earth (when the Enterprise had travelled back in time) were all Borg, that is perhaps the other answear of why the captain had said that. Dr. Zefram Cochrane probally had some really close freinds, other than that woman-

  • @Ashenion22 Sure he got the titanium, but creating a ship that can break the light barrier is going to be the biggest technological advance of all time. It should really take as much effort as making the apollo rockets, but Cochrane seems to do it all by himself. Maybe there were other people, but we never see them. In fact, the only people from that time we see are Lily and Cochrane, so theres really no chance to connect with the past, and we never really feel the great effort that went into

  • The main problem is that the movie itself isnt well defined. By the end of the movie the borg are 1) Trying to stop first contact 2)seducing Data 3) Trying to assimiliate everything. Then when shit was hitting the fan on the ship, Riker was having a grand old time on the phoenix. They should have had no borg queen, no trying to assimilate the future, the thrust of the movie should have been: stop the borg disrupting first contact.

  • @otherjr but, there was NEVER a story line of the very first contact, nor that of the very first warp capible craft.

  • @Ashenion22 Since when is the opinion of Bernd Schneider gospel truth? I for one didn't like First Contact at all.

  • @Superphilipp since who ever thought so. Thank-you for you're oppinion.

  • Brent is awesome.

  • (spoiler)

    Why'd data have to die in the last star trek tng movie?! ;-;

  • @Deniecu Because that's the way Brent Spiner wanted it to happen.

  • Data is the best. Letterman is an asshole who loves getting cheap laughs at others expense.

  • Does Letterman ever shut up?

  • Brent seems like a cool cat.

  • How is he so cute?

  • Hit his peak in 1996

  • Brent Spiner is the coolest mamba-jamba of all time! I met him once, and he is way cooler in person!

  • "What is the difference?"

"One is my name, the other is not."

  • @RazFan11 yep that was is Response to Dr. Pulaski.

  • @msscott73 Yup! :) I'd have to say that's one of my favorite clips.

  • Data is the sex.

  • scanning for life forms.....

  • the constant audience cheering grates on ya after a while. yes, its nice to show your appreciation and stuff, but it gets in the way of the interviewing

  • The colors are like Ken Rockwell's production.

  • what a shower of tools

  • It's odd to see him when he is not yellow, rofl.

  • ive worked 7 weeks for 5 min.

    LMAO!

  • DAMN i hate Letterman.But Spiner is a God.

  • Whoah ! Hey David what Happened XD

  • <3 data

  • Brent Spiner is a fantastic actor. His talent has been way under-used.

  • what a hottie.

  • I like how they were acting all cocky about the movies he was doing

and then that height of his career just kept going down and he's been scarcely heard from again

  • @unorthodoxJ Well, maybe in movies, but Brent plays a lot in theater and I've seen interviews which focus on that. He is a very nice actor.

  • I love'd data after Q gave him a leaving gift, but then again i missed his just pure nonemotional previous personality...

  • nice :)

  • goddamn Letterman you dumbass

  • he seams really nice, it just cannot be disliked.

  • One of my Favotire TNG charactors!

It is funny how Letterman makes is sound like Brent is famous just because of ID4 and Phenomonon. When the crowd is clearly there because of Data.

  • it's data, not data lol

  • Brent has his own female fan club. Chicks dig cold dudes.

  • Jimmey Kimmel is so much better. :)

  • my favorite actor :) i love data

  • Man, oh man. I agree with all you people dissing Letterman. As I'm watching this, I'm thinking, ask him something that matters, dammit!! I would have totally wanted to know what it's like playing a role, for so long, that confines you to never using any word contractions or showing any emotion. And, that's just ONE of many decent, RELATIVE questions he could have asked. Aughh... well, what do ya want from mainstream TV. Brent would have faired MUCH better being on The Daily Show or Charlie Rose.

  • @onetrueslave Or on Howard Stern - the most entertaining interviewer of all time.

  • @onetrueslave Not letterman's fault. The networks make you focus on the latest movie, etc. so he has to ask film questions and then network cuts the interview much shorter than actually took place. Networks suk. Too bad we don't have more interviews on Spiner but you can find some good ones if you dig.

  • @onetrueslave I dont think you Letterman is the show for you then. Shows like that are just for simple jokes that most can understand.... just very basic entertainment for the sheeple.

  • Data/Data/ Data ...Punks Letterman . Awesome .

  • Letterman is such a loser.

  • What a crappy interviewer. Didn't ask him a single question of substance.

  • back when white sneakers were cool....

  • the band is playing 'Gimme Some Money' from Spinal Tap when he comes out...lol

  • Looks like Brent didn't like the fact they pit that drug addict during his interview LoL

  • Independance Day being the biggest grossing movie of all time....lol.

  • One of the best true actors of all time :D My hero

  • I like everything about Brent

  • An All Around Awesome and Very Talented Gentleman.

  • Data would make an excellent bouncer!!!

  • I like both movies. Phenomenon and independence day. I haven't seen star trek tng since it was on the air but i enjoyed it when it was.

  • I like both movies. Phenomenon and independence day. I haven't seen star trek tng since it was on the air but i enjoyed is when it was.

  • I live in the UK so only thing I know bout letterman is the affairs from year. Is he really such a tit? I mean TNG had been over for 2years. He should have known this at the time if Brent was going to be a guest.

  • Letterman is such an asshole. Always making fun of his guests. Anything for the hollow little man to have a laugh. Brent is cool as usual. Go Brent!

  • lol 1996

Independence Day is now regarded as an unwatchable cheesefest and who the fuck ever heard of Phenomenon

  • I was forced to watch Phenomenon at school. I had no idea Brent Spiner was in it! It's a crappy John Travolta movie.

  • I never heard of phenomenon

  • Almost ten years after the beginning of TNG... it must be strange to him (given his recent history) to be on a stage where the MC doesn't know how to properly pronounce his prominent characters name.

  • Have you seen the BBC clip where the host infers from the clip that laughter is a big part of the character? At least Dave does not hide his ignorance.

  • letterman is so ignorant.

  • what an honogable man

  • Heh, Brent is sooo much more intelligent then that interviewer. :p He look a bit disgusted a couple of times.

  • Brent is a phenomenon. Honestly I am completely unable to see a 'Brent' when I see him not in a Starfleet uniform. I always see Data when I see that face. I think thats a sign of his gifted acting.

  • Actually, it's just a sign that he has played Data.

  • Maybe. I might be biased.

  • haha, the audience...it's 1996 alright!

  • I wonder if Brent likes all that white make-up in his face.

  • Wow, Letterman looks young :P

  • SO does Brent.

  • Lol

"If you people would just stop applauding for a minute or two, we can do this interview!"

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Brent Spiner in Memphis, TN back in the early 90's. He was a very kind, humorous, and gracious gentleman.

  • @Actionguy1 Lucky! He does seem like a sweetheart, and I'd love to meet him someday.

  • eh looks so different

  • Data is king.

  • Brent is the man! Too bad Letterman doesn't know the first thing about star trek, or any other of his guests acts for that matter.... I really don't see how he lasted this long as the late night host. Seeing that he's never funny and doesn't know shit..

  • You can see Brentis mildly irritated by all theese intentional (or not) Star Trek mistakes.. Him in a Redshirt (data has never wore a Redshirt why would they pick that picture for him) speaking about independance day wich he didnt like much... missed his name, act like he doesnt know shit... shut him up with Loud croud noise.

If I was brent, i'd be like ''Fuck you guys this aint worth the 10K you offered me''

  • Data wore a red shirt in one episode only.

At least SOMEBODY came prepared. Great interview! Brent's funny, smart, and interesting!

  • It's cut and dried. Fajo had just killed what's her face with the romulan microwave ginzu knife, so he had shown himself to be a threat

    He had to go boom.

Also Dave lost any Trek street cred he could have faked when he called DAYta DAHta. Yikes what s dork Dave is

  • This being filmed in 1996 makes Brent 47 at the time of this interview. I hope I look that young at 47.

  • "I play a sort of bizarre doctor who runs this Area 51, where we're doing experiments on these pickled aliens..." Brent was talking about Independence Day, but he might just as easily have been describing his (later) role as Nigel Fenway in "Threshold," lol.

(On his experiences at ST conventions): "...It's hard to be negative about a large group of people who adore you." Absolutely. *.hums her favorite tune from 'Ol' Yellow Eyes is Back'*

  • LOL, he very well may've been. =D

*hums Yellow Eye's "Carolina in the Morning"*

  • Comment removed

  • my god his hair still looks like data's hair do lol

  • I loved his hairstyle in TNG. :) It was just perfect -- not too long or too short.

  • Independence Day sucked.

  • word

  • he was making a joke about Letterman mispronouncing it off the top... pay attention

  • I was and I dont think he was doing that. A lot of the star trek actors try to distance themselves from the show and this was his way of making it seem like Data was just another forgotten role he had.

  • no, definitely a re-joke. but you're right, too, probably

  • He was distancing himself from the show under the guise of a re-joke. Don't know if it was scripted, but Letterman's verbal drivel just sorta came in handy that way.

  • but it was a great show why would he they do that?

  • Brent Spiner and his character Data, FTW!

Besides, Brent Spiner is snarky so what? Actors have their own style, otherwise all characters would be the same

  • this Letterman is a spineless puppet of the ruling elite. ignore him. His words are poison.

  • o.O

  • spiner is such an interesting guy. i don't know why he's not in more movies.

  • because of his shoes perhaps?

  • "One is my name. The other is not."

  • exactly what i thaught, lol.

  • Letterman seems unable to discontinue his vocal cord action
