From what I could tell, this version was recorded around the same time as the better-known recording from the Love Unlimited Orchestra (which was likewise co-arranged by Page). I have the 45 promo of this, and it was evident that it was edited differently from the 45 edit of the Love Unlimited Orchestra's rendition.
I am a friend of Elbert Denny, Jr. (RIP) (Pasadena) ~ and used to listen to all these tunes (and Barry/LUO's songs) back in the day... a blast from the past. 5-Stars!! The first concert I ever went to in Los Angeles was a Barry White/Love Unlimited Orchestra concert in '74 ~ then, ironically, years later, I met Bud! THANKS for posting / sharing this song!
I think Gene Page worked with Motown in the 60s too which is why I bought this album in 1974 because I remembered seeing his name numerous times on albums.
@Vincent50 Vinnie you're right! Gene arranged loads of Motown music as well as Frank Sinatra and many others ('Philadelphia Freedom' by Elton John) His work was massive and there hasn't been an arranger like him since! His string arrangements are quickly identifyable. Gene's best friend was a friend of mine who co-wrote 'You're the first, my last, my everything' with Barry. That was Barry's tour manager Tony Sepe who sadly died last year. Tony and I were good friends and knew all of Gene's work.
Have the album but needed to hear it with no age on it again. Thank you so much! This entire album needs to be put out there again.

I also can't find "Get into my thang" by Gene page from the early 70's and it really upsets me that unique classics get lost in the mix.

Gene Page is a god. A god of smooth grooves and slick melodies which I worship endlessly.

Don't forget he also arranged for Sarah Vaughan on "Send in the Clowns" in 74... and his work with Gladys Knight and the Pips in the 70s too.
