Meeting Che Guevara is a clever short indie film combining revolutionary themes. A sci-fi interpretation of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds set against the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The story centers around a deluded girl who is reading The War of the Worlds and is told by the 'Man from Maybury Hill' (from the book) that she has to find Che and give him a letter. Che visited a Dublin bar in 1964..

Ok so this is only a movie ... I get that. Fake. But there is one part that was very real for me. At 3:15 the woman finds herself meeting (for the first time) Che Guevera and almost instantly makes it ABOUT her! I had about 2000 flashbacks :)

Brilliantly realized, even down to the Carter Burwell inspired soundtrack. I first watched this in Cork 2002 and for me it set the bar for Irish shorts... Still have not seen a better one to surpass it.
