After the movie, I was left with a quest to find out more about the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, evoking my researching days...

My Heart Goes out to all the people that died in that earthquake. if you haven't seen it and are thinking of watching it. don't hesitate to hit Play, Very powerful.

  • I cried more times than I can count. Amazing, amazing, amazing movie. The only thing bad about it was that canadian husband guy who's acting was terrible. Anyway, such a horribly sad story... I really feel for all of those 240,000 people...

  • its so sad i almost cried and im a guy

  • this is the saddest movie i've ever seen but it was amazing

  • @lyue1996 China had the deadliest earthquake in the 1500's, but it wasn't even close to the strongest. The magnitude was 8.0, it killed over 800.000 people. The strongest was in here, a 9.5. And last year an 8.8

  • ehhh dis moovie waz preti gewd ecept dee stupit foreigner at dee end

  • @NakedCreep and speaking of hypocrisy. im going to quote this too;

"It's obvious that either English isn't your first language or you're dyslexic."

  • Comment removed

  • @NakedCreep Sir, i believe you are in a state of absence of intelligence to even begin to comprehend the simplest written English. people call it "stupid" i believe, but please i do suggest you Sir, to acquire an education before coming back and attempt to create a written response to my comments.

  • @NakedCreep let me get this straight, you come and comment on my comment that is months old to say im the one pissing you off and im the asshole? HELLO? if you don't wanted to me to piss you off, don't reply to the comment in the first place. your not the only one anger right now. 2ndly i could care less of what you think since my comment is old, hence my apathetic responses. why do you need to force your point of view onto people? everyone has their own opinions.

  • @NakedCreep your answered yourself already. they are pretending to troll me? it doesnt matter if they are pretending or not, trolling is trolling. idiot.

  • This movie was absolutely unbelievable!!! I recommend it to anyone with a heart!!!

  • aww :'( this is sad im about to watch this movie !

  • Is this movie in english? Or does it have english subtitles?

  • @surfnsantacruz It's in Mandarin, but there's English subtitle.

  • i have never cried so much before a film than this one! Does anybody knows where can i get the original soundtrack of it?? i can't find it!

  • Awesome movie! And the beginning was LEGENDARY!!

  • holy shit this looks very scary and sad

  • @BBradshawProductions You dont know shyt, even if the construction is freaking good the building will still fall, the earthquake in New Zealand was 7.1,6.1 magnitude and over 100 people die, and the construction of the building here is good.In japan the houses were built earthquake proof, do you see the death toll? That earthquake in china was 8.2 magnitude which is 30 times stronger than the earthquake in japan. DO you're freaking research no matter how good your building is . Bang 8.2 you die

  • @Scastynee wasnt there an aftershock in the japanese earthquake that was 10.0 but did not directly hit land?

  • @with33 I'm not sure, i don't think so? Because 10 magnitude is very very big, the ground in the ocean/sea will split really bad thus causes tsunami. I only knew the 8.9 earthquake which was followed by a tsunami. I'm sorry i don't know :(

  • @Scastynee looked it up there was a 10.1 aftershock a 9.8 and a 9.6 the 10.1 was off the coast of japan and did not cause a tittle wave the 9.8 caused a small one and the 9.6 cause an added 100 deaths to building collapse.

  • @Scastynee I agree, in Japan there's always a high death toll whenever theres an earthquake, and they're a seismic prepared country. I live in Chile, one of the most seismic countries in the world we've had the strongest earthquake in world history, and last year we had the 8.8 one. The construction here is excellent, prepared for earthquakes as it should. And still buildings fell, roads cracked open, bridges fell apart and hundreds died.

  • @NOYFBsstfu I thought China had the worlds biggest earthquake in history in 1500 ?

  • @Scastynee nobody likes your wisdom

  • @slippedwheat FYI I never asked anyone to like me.

  • @BBradshawProductions you're a moron. you sound like the typical american that can't stand that everything in this country is owed to china. Lousy construction? they built the great wall thats lasted longer than anything america has built. so shut you mouth

  • @raygreene I blame the indians for their poor structural integrity of their teepees.

  • @BBradshawProductions wow, really? i hope you get aids you sick cunt

  • What is this?? 2012 going memento styleO.O

  • China foreveeeeeeer

  • I purchased this movie and got ripped off.

  • Why do people forget that Africa, the middle east and Asia were involved in slavery long before England made it a global business? White people invented it my hairy Irish arse.

  • Also just finished watching the film, and good gawd i cried! at least 3 times. Good film, thoroughly enjoyed it. The choices people HAVE TO make at such times are horrifying yet true. My heart goes out to all of them that passed on and those still living who lost close ones in 1976 <3

  • Just finished this film and I am left speechless.. Its hard not to cry with contacts on and when watching with family that's a Chinese descent. It makes us wonder on what would happen if something like this struck us.

  • ah well at least the trailer had a happy ending :)

  • I've seen this movie on DVD at least 8 times already. What a masterpiece and treasure. I was impressed by the special effects but was completely caught off guard by the outstanding acting to follow. Excellent film.

  • Was this film played in U.S.or other western countries? I saw it on DVD at home.

  • Rest in peace to all 242,419 people who died during Tangshan Earthquake in 1976

  • ....though to be a movie about the Aftershock from one of the two atomic bombs on Japan.....too bad...would make a good antiUS movie.

  • @wehappyfewkd how the hell would that be anti-us???

    you mean anti-war!

interpreting eg anti war messages as anti us is exactly why half of the population don't accept criticism of their government and its foreing policy...which is why we get nowhere...

  • @bronkoghma

i mean anti-US. there is a lot of debate on whether US did well to drop ,not one, but two atomic bombs to "end" WW2. These drops paved the way of the US becoming eventually the bully of the globe.

    anti war would syrely be.

  • I can't believe my mom was actually 16 when she experienced this earthquake in 1976... I'm glad she survived. Many of her friends died in that quake. I'm happy my cousin didn't die either. :))) very cool to see this movie. I liked it. :))

  • Afterschock sounds mor like - Assgrenate

  • very interesting to see such destruction in Reverse?

  • Wow....That was Depressing!

  • @MrShaun42088 i watched the whole movie a few mins ago... now im all sad

  • omg, to think china could advance from THAT to the present day in a short 30 years if absolutely incredible! who the fuck cares if human rights are not 100% respected? 30 years ago, the government couldnt even guarantee the most basic right to survive.

  • wooooow full city of clones... xD

  • This film and Zhang Yimou's "The Road Home" and "To Live" made me cry like a baby.

  • krass

  • I think they should call the film Lust, Caution 2. If the parents didn't make love in the van they could save the children.

  • Song name plzz :((((

  • Good Movie !!!!!!!

  • very sad film :(

  • awesome film

  • ...wow....I just saw this movie last night and it was hard to NOT cry watching this....

  • 23 seconds....

    32 years....

  • I cried so hard at the end of the filmT_T

  • T_T

  • oh man, that's real... i think this movie its like the 11 march 2011 in Japan, its sad

  • When I went to see this movie, I cried so much. It was almost embarrassing...I couldn't stop.

  • Racism was never invented it is an idea and it is in play in every human being's life, every person who even claims not to be racist is racist to some extent, so this argument is retarded.

  • @ITWBL yes i agree but the main argument is that pianoworm said the white person in the movie was a fag in which i disagree because he didnt act good. that makes him a fag.

  • almost no chinese blame the canadian actor, why do you do it to him?

  • @wjssz Are you chinese? Do you read what the general public is saying to this film in CHINA? I guess not, China's political system is corrupted... if you (a chinese) got connection or money or both, you can be in films and such, but for the white people, it's first come first surve, WHY? Chinese people treat other chinese people without dignity, and asslicking the white? The white actor got 0 talent as if he's not even acting, so fu*k him.

  • respekt from georgia ! klaass !

  • The promotion makes this look like just another disaster film- but its so much more. One of the most moving films I have ever seen

  • It's one of the best comedy films I've ever seen.

  • The mother's acting was impeccable.

  • i like pencils!!

  • Just watched this film - and Oh. My. God. It was amazing - I am still trying not to start crying, and I failed miserably at that during the movie. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!

  • this movie looks good, but needs better graphics

  • what was that?? it's like in reverse!

  • is the trailer reversed?? wtf

  • It was so dramatic that I couldnt stop crying while watching this movie

  • Does anyone know if the soundtrack is available anywhere??

  • @lucerperson i have sent to you the url of the soundtrack via message, no better quality available.

  • This was the hardest movie to watch ever. I cried so much!

  • Only 1 complaint about this film.

I lost who was who because all the names were similar.

  • After Shock

  • HAHAHAHAH YES KILL THEM ALL!

  • @Doctaventh

    Look an internet hard man.

Laughing at people suffering makes you look cool and tough.

  • @Cha4k Sorry to say, mate - but laughing at this makes noone look either cool nor tough... No idea where you got that from. Also I laughed at this because I thought it was funny, I didn't laugh with the intention of looking cool nor tough either and if that was the outcome, then who gives a shit? As for your comment "Look an internet hard man." you have absolutely no idea what I am like... And just for your information, I am not afraid to speak my mind in real life either. I got expelled for it.

  • This trailer shows the good bits. After the first hour this film is boring.

They should have used a story leading up to the 1976 earthquake .Would have been far better.

  • Tear jerker. Watched it in Beijing when I went back.. :3 Amazing movie.. I totally recomend watching it.

  • great movie....i cried until z end...well done

  • first time I saw my boyfriend crying during a movie...

  • I saw this in theaters when I was an exchange student in Beijing. Cried like no tomorrow. It's extremely heart-wrenching. Great acting and effects.

  • hey very sad movie so i did a great fan trailer its on my channel please watch it

  • fuck! i wana watch this :((

  • ΑΡΗΣ ΘΡΗΣΚΕΙΑ SUPER 3

  • I just watched the movie and it's just great ,and this is the second best chinese movie ever after Old Boy

  • China makes good movies! FUCK HOLLYWOOD

  • I cried like there was no tomorrow. Excellent acting, excellent effects. F*ing emotional.

  • this trailer makes the movie seem like it was all about the fancy-hollywood-action scenes, but actually a better chunk of the movie was focused on the emotional aspects of it. I think that's what really got to me, since i definitely cried like 50 times during it >_<

  • @YooJaeJoon

Indeed- the promotion had made me think that too, but having watched it, its so much more

  • wow... i wanna see it!

  • Here from portugal i like to guive note 10 to this film.... fucking powerful film

  • This movie is hardcore. no mater what if you are a girl or boy, when you see it you will cry for sure!!!!!

I love this movie and advising it to everyone!!!

  • highly recommended. anyone who wants to be touched by a drama movie has to watch this. the message behind it is that one choice can change a whole family history.

  • audiences will never feel the same that Tangshanese would.

  • thumps up if you cried while waching this movie!!!!!!

  • Im happy that there are such families in the world that loves each other . You wont find anymore such a loving mother wife and good son in Europa. For such people and familys i would fight and protect if needed. Live long and happy with your family.

  • @tamernator

'You won't find such a family in Europa'

    Generalisations = Ignorance

  • this looks so sad!

  • This story is like taken from my life. There was no earthquake, but my father died when my mom was pregnant so she decided to give me up for adoption instead of my brother. I have wonderful adoptive parents and just last summer I spoke for first time with my birth mother. Now I really want to get in touch with my brother, after all these years. The movie was brilliant, I cried so many times.

  • @ChildsPhilosophy awww everybody cry for the orphan. fuck off, nobody cares about you on here, go bitch on facebook

  • @youcocksmoker fuck you cock sucker

  • i dont get whats going on

  • I used to think Chinese movies sucked in general because there have been too many of them about the old imperial days and lots of actions and negative stereotypes (the melodramas, the tedious dying scenes, everything, you name it), or the plots were simply unclever. Nowadays I find Chinese cinematography beyond fascinating and the plots well-developed enough to draw my interest. When you're tired of the same old Hollywood flicks I'll recommend seeing a good Chinese/Japanese/Korean movie.

  • The movie also offer an insight in how the Chinese has transformed themselves in the last few decades. It shows how the Chinese city of Tangshan has risen from the ashes and shows her resilience .

Also a glimpse of the PLA coming to the aid of the people whenever there is a disaster.

There is a common Chinese expression call "eat bitter" literally. It signifies their stoic ability to withstand hardship, overcome it and rise about it, albeit not a unique Chinese quality.

  • Wonderful movie. The director did a great job in capturing through one family's experience , the grief of the Tang Shan people.

The universality of a mother's love for a child is depicted with such heart wrenching scenes that not to cry would seem inhuman.

  • Great movie, even though the trailer totally misled me into believing I was about to watch a movie with a supernatural twist. Still, I'm glad I watched it :D
