Christina has been a huge fan, nearly every interview I've seen her in, she said Etta James is her all time favorite singer. So you can totally tell, she is so honored to be able to sing with Etta James in that interview. I wish they would do a duet!

Etta wasnt first to sing at last BUT her version is the one everyone knows and when Etta is singing it that is the classical version of it. Usually the original is the best version but not always. I think Johnny Cash did amazing job when he made cover from Nine inch niles hurt. I just think Ettas version is the classic. Ofcourse this is only my opinion.

@randomguyxx1 She wasn't furious that she played her, she was furious about how Bey went about it. Beyonce never even contacted the woman, though she was alive and well at the time. You'd think she'd like to get her blessings, and some serious input but I guess not. Plus, Etta felt that Bey should've passed the singing at the inauguration to her, seeing that she sang Etta's version. I mean, who wouldn't be pissed. R.I.P. Etta!!!

i have to say christina has just an amazing talented voice as etta james. and i'm almost positive christina can hit higher notes and belt harder than etta, and i'm pretty sure that is factual.

Astonishingly good, IMHO. It does sound like an old Victoria Spivey song. Etta remade "Sweet Little Angel" on one of her old live CDs. It also has Baby,What You Want Me to Do". What would be your choice for an Etta &Christina duet? Mine is "In the Basement". CA seems like a woman of substance, not a poptart. Saw her live at a free concert in1998-unforgettable.

christina is my idol and i think she is the best singer of her generation out there today she's a legend to be, but hey! saying that she's better than etta james aint that a bit exaggerated but i think xtina will be just as good or better than etta one day and she will be remembered as a legend and when i get old i will let my grandchildren :P listen to a xtina record and i know i will say hey kids this is the greatest artist of all times :p

Secondly, if you really want to look up Etta James, check out a few photos .. You will find that she was quite overweight for a period of time.

Obviously it is a generation gap that makes you have that opinion. Back in her younger days, she was just what Christina was. A young bad girl with a great voice.
To compare them today is why you don't think Etta is that great. So really, your comparision or saying Etta isn't that great (and can't do what Christina can) isn't accurate.

That is why you need to go back to the beginning of Etta's career up to today. You will see why she is regarded as a legend. Christina is very good, but she like others(and she has said so) grew up on Etta's and others music. If she can maintain a career as Etta and others have done, she will become legendary. Christina can't do the stuff that ETTA has done or can do. It's about seasoning! Oh...please believe, ETTA IS THAT GREAT!!!!

Not the one depicted in the movie Idlewild in Georgia. Heavyweight Boxing Champ Joe Louis also trained in Idlewild,Michigan. etta james is an exceptional voice, a true true singer. maybe the only other in her league is aretha. chaka khan, mary blige etc are good or maybe very good but not etta or aretha and perhaps in time aguilera who is great herself can end up on that highest level but she's got some work to do
