We had an EF4 tornado here around my area of Toledo, Ohio about a month ago. Milbury, Ohio looks like a war zone...it's very sad. This is a great video. Hugs from Toledo, Ohio!!!
Ya.. I was there this night.. It was a Thursday and I wanted to go dancing that night.. I was 7 blocks from the destroyed fair ground building.. It was intense.. Harmon Park was hit bad too.. Trees I remember from when I was a kid, blown over. It was sad..
I said near miss because it was tracking north first. When my upstairs neighbor noticed the funnel cloud 50 yards away and said "does that one look like its spinning?", we ran into my basement apt right before it touched down 70ft away.
Guys, I'm pretty sure that there were 8 separate tornadoes that hit Grand Island on that fateful nite in '80. My cousin in Broken Bow lived thru that nite in G.I. She told me "yes...they really DO sound like freight trains". One thing for sure about that nite...there were NO OTHER STORMS in the U.S. that nite PERIOD!! And the one that blew up and dropped all those naders over G.I. was not supposed to happen at all!
Uhh. from the Kearney hub, I read there were 6 tornadoes at the time. one in aurora. Then there was a multifunnel. But MAN, thats the best tornado ive heard of.
yea i was in kearney at the university when all this happened it was cool but scary all at once. They had all of us high school basketball teams in the basement of the gym it was fun getting to see the tornadoes and getting to drive home after but REALLY SCARY SHIT!!
Serious? Yeah, the house behind to the left of my pov. There were people in the basement of that house man, so it wasn't funny when they came up after seeing the damage-but thankfully no one got hurt.
I live in minden which is like... 20 minutes south of kearney but i was at my friends appartment when the storm was there and it was LOUD!!! lol. but i guess that same night minden got a hail storm and our siding is like... killed. lol. our house is old anyways so i guess it doesnt matter.
I think that was 2001 and I remember that storm. This was insane because less than a minute later this tornado touched down less than 100 feet from my front door!
I would say that this is one of the reasons i left Columbus and moved to nebraska but that's a lie cause we have gigantic tornadoes here, hahaha they call them hurricanes down here, i hate it hate it hate it! i'm going back to pennsylvania!
No one goes to there basements here in tornado alley. we have grown accustomed to going outside and looking up until we see a tornado touchdown. Then Running like fuck downstairs.
I live in Omaha, and I have yet to actually SEE a tornado touch down. I still love it how people that aren't from the midwest will ask why we aren't in our basement, but, that's what you do in Nebraska at least. If the tornado sirens go off you don't go downstairs, you go outside and look up. lol.
i live in tekamah... we had one hit right outside town. scary stuff. this is good footage. i am scared of tornado's i run for the basement. its nice to watch footage AFTERwards. thank you for sharing this :D
Omaha got hit with their first tornado in the area since 1991 on June 8th. We always get lucky, they usually pass into Council Bluffs. it was an F2. What was this one? Thoughts and prayers go out to those whose houses were damaged in Kearney. I heard it went through downtown?
I work at Eaton Corp, and they posted some pics off the security cameras and there was a tornado that passed on the road right in front of the plant, I cant believe that they said that at least 8 tornados hit us in Kearney.
is that near KHS

Hey. if you said a near miss, then why did it land 70 feet from your home? I was almost gone in one when in Skipped over my grandmas house.

Damn, I live in New Jersey, so I've never seen a tornado up close.
You did a damn good job at capturing a tronado, pre-touchdown.
5 stars!

but tornadoes HAVE hit New Jersey...just not as often as it does in Nebreska.
Funny that Some towns in New York State have Tornado Sirens/Alarms and yet New Jersey and New York City dont.

uh 8? i doubt it. And the Seven that hit GI actually did damage to more than one area.
redrocket009 3 years ago
last i checked we only had 2 tornadoes that touched down multiple times. did you mean 8 touchdowns?
strawboy2010 3 years ago
Kearney beat Grand Island with the number of tornadoes, we had 8 and they had 7 on 6/3/80
nickel9976 3 years ago
Only on the number, my friend. Parts of G.I. were DESTROYED in 1980 and had to be rebuilt.

Yep, when approximately 8 tornadoes touched down that day, AKA, THE NIGHT OF THE TWISTERS!!!!!
