When athiests talk about the establishment clause many times I believe they feel that the government is to promote athiesm. Not true. Also, they believe that a Christian politician can't talk about his religion on the job. Also not true. As long as he is not trying to promote his religion it's fine!
Public schools constrain children and force them into general groupings. So, some govt leaders feel it necessary to also constrain their expressions. This is so no child is exposed to religious ideologies against the parents' wishes. Since the teacher acts in the place of the parent- en loco parentis- the govt feels the teacher must protect each child from said ideologies. That is their reasoning for why they block prayers or teacher interaction in them. They do not do the same for politics.
Exactly, it is illegal and unconstitutional to prohibit school prayer. Yes it cannot be openly encouraged to everyone but it also cannot be prohibited. SO there should be no argument about school prayer.
