  • A beautiful song always performed with lots of emotion by Robert Smith. This song (for those who don't know) is about the death of 'The Associates' singer Billy McKenzie who committed suicide in 1997 and the regret Robert Smith felt for not giving him some time after meeting him backstage at a gig. Sad…

  • <3

  • I always thought it was "three long years and your vagrant man..." Oh well I liked it better that way.

I sit here thinking about divorce and I can't turn this song off...

  • I rarely can listen to this song and not feel any regrets for things that I should have done in the past and I haven't, it's a beautiful song but also very sad for those who didn't do the right thing at the right moment, it's like a beautiful slap at your face actually

  • @abremner5785 it's about a friend he didn't spend much time with and regrets that, not a lover and it's not about suicide specifically so try not to think about it for too long

  • :'(

  • will always this song...thinkin' about all that passed chances, i did not recognize...

  • ya es buena eléctrica...... acústica es tan "pefecta"

  • Love this version so much.

  • I love this song so much...the music kind of reminds me of another song though and it's annoying me because I can't remember what?

  • A lazy effort of their part. Sorry if I upset any fans, but The Cure does disappoint sometimes. I mean, some of their best songs happened in the late 80s, then a series of "Best Of" albums, then it kind of went downhill from there. If you want to hear some really great music, listen to Antony and the Johnsons.

  • @torpedofish, you realy dont no the cure , do ya. they are like wine .

  • Best lyrics.

  • This song is beautiful...

  • This could be my fav cure song of all time. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • =(

  • genious

  • Damn, that's just perfect, I wish I couldn't say "been there done that"

  • Well. This song is great yeah. But i dont prefer Acoustic The Cure.. This is amazing just like their other work. But i prefer the original :)

  • This song means alot to me.

  • ... sad

  • heh this song pretty much explains EXACTLY what happened to me with a girl i could have had a couple years ago... and i still think "what if"

  • this is the epitome of "what if" heartache....this song is awesome.

  • the lyric is just mind-blowing.

  • @heyisabelle ...it sure it. the epitome of "what if" heartache...

  • Have anyone noticed that The Cure and Cut Here is exactly the same letters?

  • @malteder17 Nice observation ; ) (Y)

  • @malteder17 love you sharing your observation...i love words... and the cure..Robert is the master of words...they cure me again and again and again and again

    the Daniela's grandmother

  • I have always loved this song but I do so love this version! Robert is just pure genius and amazing in every aspect. He can sing like no other!! I have loved The Cure for 27 years now and they never cease to amaze me with all their beautiful and magical songs and melodies!! This song is so painstakenly true about making the mistake of thinking there will always be another time to be with the " one" and missing the opportunity. Take heed and stop and take the time because regret is the worst! <3

  • This song makes me miss my Momo (Great grandma) every time i hear it, i cry, as i am now. but i still listen to it. it makes me ache inside, but it also makesme smile :')

  • come on...have a drink with me...i still see that look in your eyes

  • I miss you Kristine Levering

  • Anyone else have the problem with trying to view the official music video?

"This video contains content from Vevo, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."

    Wow, Vevo...

  • Does anyone know where I could buy this version? iTunes don't seem to have it D:

  • @chloeakers It's on their Greatest Hits Limited Edition 2CD which has got all the acoustic versions on, except Pictures Of You. Wouldn't think it would be very hard to find and is well worth the money.

  • Beautiful :)

  • Just hear any song from the Disintegration album, Entreat or the Rarities and pay attention to the drums. They were soooooooooo good and now they suck!

  • ni modo a trabajar el desapego...cuando las cosas se ponen mal ...aun despues de tres años : )

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing song

acoustic version better :) thank you!

  • check out my version of that song...

  • Amazing lyrics! . The Cure is one of my favorite bands! and one reason is because of the lyrics!

  • It actually reminds me more so of Okkervil River if anything...the current album,

    The Stand Ins

It's the lyrics that seem so familiar

  • I love the cure their songs always give me a nostalgic feeling

  • jason sucks playing the drums

  • @amigajenni

HAHA! are you for real? Have you heard the last three albums at all? Stop whining and go to bed.

  • Keep on making the same mistakes, keep on aching the same heartbreaks ...

  • Not really. Not at all, to be quite frank. And I'm a huge Bright Eyes and Cure fan.

  • This song breaks my heart. I would have had a much happier life if I hadn't made that mistake ... and then again ... and again ... and again.

  • i know how you feel ....

  • i love the original version of this song, but this acoustic version is so mellow and nice, i love it too. the cure are amazing, robert smith is so talented.

  • Oh, he is the best!!!!!!!!!

  • Regret*

  • "I wish, If only. But if only... is a wish to late"

Brilliant, I love this song. It reminds me about my best friend I lost. *Sigh* I regred not spending more time with him...

  • But how many times can I walk away and wish "If only..."

But how many times can I talk this way and wish "If only..."

Keep on making the same mistake

Keep on aching the same heartbreak

    I wish "If only..."

    I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

    desires on my mind now

  • Any idea where I can get my hands on this version? Mr. Smith wrote the song for me after all! ;] xP

  • i have it...i could send it throug e-mail or something...lol....or buy the greatest hits album...theres 2 cd's one acustic

  • Trying to freeload on the back of a song that a man wrote about the death of a close friend, just because you happen to share the dead guy's first name, is pretty despicable, don't you think?

  • I figured people would catch onto the Sarcasm, guess not.

  • Alk3's cover IS good..but no cover of any of The Cure songs are better than the real thing...The Get Up Kids did a good job..but still no.

  • shut up

  • hu u tellin to shut up he does have a point

  • hang on... is this guy slagging off alkaline trio? wannabe mcr? this guy should look at the bands timelines..... either way... ur a dick. =]

  • no.

  • the cure is just like heaven :-)

  • I have had this song in my head all week. And it never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Robert Smith has to be the most gifted lyricist of his generation.

  • hahhaa this song made me BAWL when i heard it. like right after my bf dumped me. lmfao.

  • Because its hard to think I"ll never get another chance to hold you!! I must say this is a very touching song!!!

  • They were very close then robert smith and Billy .?..obviously.. you never hear of these type of talented people in the press..which is a good thing... very sad story.. nice of robert smith to write this song

  • Fantastic!

  • search for alkalinetrio's cover of this song, it's also very good. you'll enjoy it

  • demasiado buena esta cancion, no es de extrañarse con the cure

  • 12 years ago Billy MacKenzie took his own life,a combination of self disbelife, depression and heartbreak at the loss of his mother.

Unknown to many Billy along with the Associates made some of the finest songs to come out of Scotland.Very well respected by other artists and much missed by those who knew him.

Tonight I raise a glass and light a candle in his memory as I sit here listening to the music be blessed us with.

    R.I.P The Voice of Velvet

    forever Groovin' with Mr.MacKenzie

Sadder that it's about his friend's suicide.

  • it's about the suicide of Billy MacKenzie, singer of the bad The Assocciates, this week marks the 12th anniv of Billys passing :(

  • Yes ):

  • how I wish that my ex could hear this song. but then she does not listen to the cure which is a total loss. hers , not mine.

Robert Smith is still such a lovely artist. So sad, so Cure indeed.
