A beautiful song always performed with lots of emotion by Robert Smith. This song (for those who don't know) is about the death of 'The Associates' singer Billy McKenzie who committed suicide in 1997 and the regret Robert Smith felt for not giving him some time after meeting him backstage at a gig. Sad…
I rarely can listen to this song and not feel any regrets for things that I should have done in the past and I haven't, it's a beautiful song but also very sad for those who didn't do the right thing at the right moment, it's like a beautiful slap at your face actually
@abremner5785 it's about a friend he didn't spend much time with and regrets that, not a lover and it's not about suicide specifically so try not to think about it for too long
A lazy effort of their part. Sorry if I upset any fans, but The Cure does disappoint sometimes. I mean, some of their best songs happened in the late 80s, then a series of "Best Of" albums, then it kind of went downhill from there. If you want to hear some really great music, listen to Antony and the Johnsons.
@malteder17 love you sharing your observation...i love words... and the cure..Robert is the master of words...they cure me again and again and again and again
I have always loved this song but I do so love this version! Robert is just pure genius and amazing in every aspect. He can sing like no other!! I have loved The Cure for 27 years now and they never cease to amaze me with all their beautiful and magical songs and melodies!! This song is so painstakenly true about making the mistake of thinking there will always be another time to be with the " one" and missing the opportunity. Take heed and stop and take the time because regret is the worst! <3
This song makes me miss my Momo (Great grandma) every time i hear it, i cry, as i am now. but i still listen to it. it makes me ache inside, but it also makesme smile :')
@chloeakers It's on their Greatest Hits Limited Edition 2CD which has got all the acoustic versions on, except Pictures Of You. Wouldn't think it would be very hard to find and is well worth the money.
Just hear any song from the Disintegration album, Entreat or the Rarities and pay attention to the drums. They were soooooooooo good and now they suck!
i love the original version of this song, but this acoustic version is so mellow and nice, i love it too. the cure are amazing, robert smith is so talented.
Oooh this about Billy MacKenzie Siouxsie Sioux also wrote a song bout his death called 'say' she also said in the song that she was ment to meet up with him before he comitted suicide...
A very said story which makes this song more sad knowing the story behind it !
Lovely emotional lyrics and very touching i love it
Trying to freeload on the back of a song that a man wrote about the death of a close friend, just because you happen to share the dead guy's first name, is pretty despicable, don't you think?
no it's not it's fucking terrible, they slaghterd it, they produced one decent song in their entire career, no sorry ''career'' Radio. fucking wannab mcr
I have had this song in my head all week. And it never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Robert Smith has to be the most gifted lyricist of his generation.
They were very close then robert smith and Billy .?..obviously.. you never hear of these type of talented people in the press..which is a good thing... very sad story.. nice of robert smith to write this song
12 years ago Billy MacKenzie took his own life,a combination of self disbelife, depression and heartbreak at the loss of his mother.
Unknown to many Billy along with the Associates made some of the finest songs to come out of Scotland.Very well respected by other artists and much missed by those who knew him.
Tonight I raise a glass and light a candle in his memory as I sit here listening to the music be blessed us with.
