And given the murders of gays and lesbians in Uganda, I don't think the LGBT community are protesting for "nothing." I agree: hunger and AIDS are huge problems that certainly should be assessed. But having a more just society, welcoming to everyone, will only contribute to solve these problems. No one should be killed for being who they are.

@Skulander1 There is no LGBT-killing spree in Uganda, contrary to what people may think. The whole bill issue had (initially) to do with gay people sexually assaulting minors, for starters. But sure, there is a lot of ignorance and prejudice. LGBTs are getting raped and discriminated against, but so are women, children, foreigners, albinos etc. in the vast majority of African nations. The problem lies with the intolerance and indifferent social attitude that has putrefied Africa for so long.

@Skulander1 i am Ugandan and i care less about homosexuality now Aids and world hunger those are issues to address. The homosexuals in Uganda were living in peace till they came out and started protesting about nothing .

@gwen22ify Gwen: when human rights are denied to people, everyone suffers. It does not contribute to build a just society. And given the murders of gays and lesbians in Uganda, I don't think the LGBT community are protesting for "nothing." I agree: hunger and AIDS are huge problems that certainly should be assessed. But having a more just society, welcoming to everyone, will only contribute to solve these problems. No one should be killed for being who they are.

@Skulander1This is looking at the country as a whole and yet the honest truth is is most Ugandans don't really care to much about the situation i know many gay people in Uganda who are living free ,have nice jobs and live in nice environments no one cared . My only question is that what extra rights did they want the arrests only started after a few LGBT started abusing minors which is wrong but before that no one really cared .

@Skulander1 There is no LGBT-killing spree in Uganda, contrary to what people may think. The whole bill issue had (initially) to do with gay people sexually assaulting minors, for starters. But sure, there is a lot of ignorance and prejudice. LGBTs are getting raped and discriminated against, but so are women, children, foreigners, albinos etc. in the vast majority of African nations. The problem lies with the intolerance and indifferent social attitude that has putrefied Africa for so long.
