  • My trainer bought this horse!! my best friend rides him now that he's retired

  • I really dont understand this sport, but my GOD...I was getting giddy WATCHING these little ponies, how on earth do they not fall over from dizziness(or the riders for that matter-as they don't "spot"???

Although reining has a very high horse injury rate, all forms of horse sport has it's common injuries (ok albeit not so permanant), but I am sure if the horses were able to give an answer, they'd much rather be doing this that but in a bull fighting ring...now that IS cruel.

    Enjoy the ponies

  • Great video! And to respond to a few people, I highly doubt any of these horses are 1500 lbs, I ride a 975 lb mare at 14.3hh and am 210 lbs, She has no problem holding my weight! And also, I doubt your mares legs were ruined from reining. Jumping is more strenuous on their legs than reining spins.

  • what's with the overweight, big guys on small horses? plus, lots of spurs. poor horses...

  • @EachBreath :

um first of all, that guy is not too over weigh for that horse, horses can hold uup to 2 times there weigh, and that horse is 1500 pounds.

if that horse didn't wanna do it, than that horse would of let that guy no, so STFU!

    ..

    amazing horseee

  • The horses "do it," as you put it, because they are bred & trained to work for people & they have big hearts. More skill & a light touch from a rider is better than using your mass - many of these guys are are quite overweight - to push them around. The horses are amazing, the people into these competitions not so very great. For their own health, those guys should cut back on the pork chops. You too, Wildxxhorses, maybe you can lighten up. You seem to have an anger management problem.

  • @EachBreath

i most definitely do not have to lighten up.. i know what your saying about the weigh issue, because i understand. i stay at exactly 85 pounds to ride my horses, so its fair to them, but than again i'm only 14 years old so it's easy for me to stay skinny, even if i may be underweight, i can't help it.. but these older guys can't help being big either. and the only reason i get mad is because if you want to comment on a video, don't give attitude, keep your bad thoughts to yourself

  • Horses can't hold 2 times their weight. A good rule of thumb is 20% of their weight. Top reining horses are at least 1200 - 1500 pounds so they can carry someone who is 240+ pounds. They just look small because they are short. Shorter horses are preferred because their turns look tighter and rollbacks seem more dramatic.

  • my horse is a fatty, 15 1/2 hands and 1350 pounds. these horses are not 1500 pounds. plus, you cant forget the 50 pound saddles! yes, horses CAN carry twice their weight, but these horses are being WORKED. maybe the horses do want to do it, maybe not. i know a horse that was pretty much beaten to death and doesnt like his work, but still does it, and he never gives us ANY crap about it.

    think on that.

  • Holy Shiiiiiiit that horse was AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • Talk about the "cream of the crop", HOLY SHIT! I could watch reining & cutting competitions and never get bored. Though being the person on their backs is alot more exciting.

  • reining ruined my JUMPING horse's hocks. now she can only jump up to 1 ft. i'm sticking with english riding, thank you very much!

  • Everyone has their own preference. If you have a horse that you use for jumping, you should've stuck to that. Jumping horses are athletic, but it sounds like you should've conditioned her better. Or taken measures to better protect her joints when you are asking her to perform such a strenuous task. Reining horses have to be very athletic, if not they get hurt.

  • @HorseJollyBall please do not blame an entire discipline for the faults of a few individuals within that discipline. i dont know the history on your horse, nor do i assume any sort of knowledge about it. perhaps the person who tried reining with your horse did it wrong and did not keep the horse in good condition for it.

  • @HorseJollyBall i know many reining horses that would make great jumpers and their hocks are splendid. it sounds like either you or the person who attempted teaching your horse reining does not know very much about the discipline. therefore you should not blame said discipline for your horse's misfortunes

  • the second guy was deffinately the worst i have to say, but they were all very good!! i have a reining horse but i mean we're still like training for it but he's awesome!!!!

  • How do you make them spin like that?

I have a reining horse and I can't figure out how to make him spin or side pass.

If someone could help I could appreciate it, thanks!

  • ok... to make a horse spin you start out in a fence corner and u trot circles small circles then when u get right next to the fence corner you take your right spur and really push into their side and while your doing that you lay the right rein across their neck and take the left rein and gently pull and release.. and if they dont put any effort at all in to trying to cross their front or back feet within 3 circles just trot forward because u really want to push them out of their spins...

  • ok and side passing is pretty easy... u just walk forward and then to side pass to your left you just take your left foot away from the horses side and with your right spur you just push them to the left.. and if they want to turn their you might have to kind of pull the right rein a little so they dont turn their head...

  • @ktcowgirl94 ktcowgirl94 to make a horse spin you ask for them to lift their shoulder and move it over. you do not need a fence to do this. you must make sure their body stays relatively straight and when you push them out to trot circles that they remain in the bridle.

  • @ktcowgirl94 after trotting a few circles in the bridle stop the horse then lift your inside rein towards your armpit just enough to help their nose into the spin, lay the outside rein across their neck, lean over and out opening your inside leg and tap with the outside spur. only ask for a couple steps at a time when you are first teaching them, this way it is easier for them to recognize when they are doing it correctly and learn it faster

  • mike Mcintire's horse was beautiful.

  • Andrea's horse just stuck his foot down on those spins. he was really good.

  • very good.. ou jeee.. beautiful!!

  • cool ^^ I love western riding

  • beautiful qh

  • wow

  • can i use thes clips for my video?

  • HAHA i love the very end lol

but where were all the girls at lol its like almost all guys but whats funny is if you go around to the shows you see a lot of girls riding like youth and stuff but then once you go to the bigger shows its almost all guys lol its like where did they come from haha

  • I am a reining horse person and I really love this video. It really inspired me!!!

  • Great Video

  • I hope I'll be able to train my horse to be as responsive as them.

  • That first horse ahs the prettiest lead change Ive ever seen.

  • MY boss has an own daughter of the only mare to ever win the NRHA derby and her sire is topsail whiz.

  • Hey guess what people...my Middle name is Reining.

  • omg that horse is sooo pretty!

  • are they riding pattern no# 5?

  • I love that palomino and the bucksin horse. They move really nice..i love the spins on all of the horses and the stops...very nice horses..love the sport.

  • The footing in reining horse show arena is very important. Without the right base, and mix in the arena you can't slide like you can in this show arena.

That said, these world-class trainers actually teach the horses to slide to their stops, and a lot of it has to do with their breeding.

  • Cool!

  • is there special sand that maakes them slide that far? The reiners I ride that have sliders on don't slide that good

  • TXRider, the first horse is not dead beat he is very well trained. Better than anything that you have ever rode!

  • I love reining!!!!

  • ummm donkeys?? you gotta shut up auroritawashere, you probably ain't got a pot to piss in. what ever happened to respect?

  • You go Shawn! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

  • the paint is gunner bred! haha i knew that the second i saw it. i was suprised that brian bells horse didn't look like a typical 'brian horse' if you know what i mean. all great horses!! and a great video! and to those of you who are criticizing reining and other sports for cultural differences, just shut up!!! every one does things their different ways so why dont you go do yours your way and they do theirs their way!!!

  • @razrbladefaerie totally a gunner horse haha, we had a Gunner gelding at our barn and he had almost the exact same coloring and build

  • @Dunmare haha thats awesome! there have been two gunner horses that have come through my trainer's barn and one of them is still there but they are grey. haha it's so funny

  • hey auroritawashere... do you speak german??? you can translate this... wenn man keine ahnung hat einfach mal den mund halten ;-)

reining is the best sport of the world!^^

maybe the mexican horses stop longer, but never on long rains...they are allway pulling on the reins in mexico... thats terrible!! the horses are never relaxed by this "long stops" or how ever you called it ^^

  • Great Video, wish i was there to have seen it.

  • ( whistel, Whistel ) The first run was a really good one. I loved the turns on that horse. And the lead changes were great! Huge stops, and pretty good roll backes!

  • I think reining kicks hindquarters!!! I love how soft and responsive the horses are!

  • reining is the best sport of the world! it´s so nice to see how they slide as long and how fast they can spin... it´s fantastically how they move and it´s much nicer to see a horse getting controlled slower at long reins, as a horse , which isn´t controlled and allways pulling on the reins... nice video ;)

  • why in reining the horses are always looking sad ,

the way that they stop y very short the best sport is charreria from mexico see a cala and you would see what iis called cuality

  • Reining horses don't look sad, that's just the way they are trained. Very light rein contact, so they mainly moves off of leg pressure. Unlike charreria or whatever its called, your cowboys ride like english riders. Horses head is held high, rides on the bit, and doesn't seem to move off of leg pressure. Your horses wouldn't come close to qualifying in the NHRA. Its all about QUALITY not quantity. Get it right.

  • you dipshit. you cant even spell *QUALITY* right.let alone ride a real reiner.

  • LEARN HOW TO SPELL YOU IDIOT!

  • the first horse is obedient and listening is that what you mean?

  • The first hors elooks dead beat...running on nerves.
