Guess what, of course I won't really make you guess but I made FIVE "5" sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving 2011 and it was my first time EVER. They turned out so good I couldn't believe it. I also made a killer rotisserie turkey I injected with creole butter (YouTube inspired).
I had absolutely no leftovers and I cooked ALOT of food. I have really been enjoying all of these different videos on YouTube. You can really find ANYTHING you can imagine on here, well, within reason..
I'm not a fan of the eggs in spp. In fact, I once made my pies with eggs and they came out terrible. For my pies, I use all the ingredients listed, except the eggs and evaporated milk.. I do add about 1/4 cup of heavy cream and a stick of butter.
@neepl8 How do you make a baked pie without eggs? Sounds more like sweet potato casserole in a crust. I bet it's still good tho but I can't imagine it...
@naturalEbeautiful You know what, I just read a recipe online that called for egg whites. Now I'll try that and see how it comes out this Thanksgiving 2011. I'll never use the whole egg though, bleh!
@neepl8 Now I bet they were good and light textured instead of that heaviness. Hmmmph, I just had an idea, if you whipped the egg whites 1st and then folded them into the potato mxture, would the pie turn out fluffy and light? Yum!
Bake it for about 45 minutes on 350 or bake longer on a lower temp just keep an eye out so you don't burn the crust. You can wrap the edge of the crust with tin foil also. I do that sometimes. Hugs!
Hi :) I did make 2 pies last night using your recipe and lemme tell you this was the best pie i ever tasted..my boyfriend and son loved it as well.thank you so much!! I did burn the crust though because i just got your message today but nonetheless it was great :)
I'm happy you like it. Sorry I should have said cover the edges of the crust 1st. Well, the next time you can make it with no problem. Maybe your oven gets really hot at 350 so next time try cooking 1 hr on say 300. Hugs!
Being diabetic i used baking splender sugar and lowfat milk and other ingredients to cut calories and my pies still taste great

Wow I made 4 of these for thanksgiving, and they were a HIT! I put a little twist on one pie and added 1/4 cup of coconut flakes....WONDERFUL!
