To be honest i think Sega built the genesis's/Mega Drive's sound chip around the arcade Shinobi sound chip, that would explain why Shinobi 3, shadow dancer, and revenge of Shinobi have an oddly better presence for music on the genesis compared to other games :D

@y2k4ever1 The arcade chip was the YM2151, and the YM2612 was another one in the OPN family. Both were mutually compatible.

And Yamaha built both chips, not SEGA.

@danytoon ya know if Sega had made thier launch tittle for the Sega master system a platformer about a bad ass ninja, then im sure the master system would have sold out, and ergo Sega would still be around, for a butterfly effect of good things would happen to them leading to such.

@y2k4ever1 instead of that average Alex Kid, it was ok to play at the time but compared to mario it was dirt. wonderboy was average too. they didnt have a decent in house platformer till Sonic did they? and that was a very short game but very playable

This game just has all around great sound design, from the music to the sound effects when you throw shurikens and rescue the hostages. Very memorable.

Sega really needs to come out with a shinobi pack complation game ,with all of the shinobi games on one disk for fans or make a new shinobi game, same 2d style with 3d backgrounds

I had this game on sega master system back in the late 1980's to early 90's those were the days, when gaming was pure/ and life was simple. I still have a working Commodore64/Atari2600/SMS :) but now I have a few emulators on my desktop.

@RallyDon82 I was about 8 years old in 1992 playing this at the entrance of a Cheap Johns my Grandmother and I used to walk there on the weekend, and to Blockbuster video next door where I rented NES games. Good times.
