  • Incredible advice thank you !!

  • im titilated (not sure if thats how u spelll it)!!! ahhh!! XD lol

  • Do you have any advice for dark skin women when choosing a foundation? Do you think this rule can apply?? Thanks and I love your vids.

  • This is without a doubt the best and simplest video on how to pick the right color foundation I've seen. Thank you!

  • You're so right! Thanks for this fantastic tip. And...feel free to submit posts with no top on whenever you like. We support you ;) xx

  • You're one handsome fellow, but it's not like you didn't know that anyway ;)

  • I've just discovered this about myself. My face has a lot of pink in it, but my chest is quite fair and almost yellow based. I think I've been wearing a foundation that's a bit too dark/yellow for me. Sometimes I think we pick a foundation that's the tone we want to be rather than what we actually are. I need to go much lighter.

  • Ok...Now, I HAVE to go to bed or I'm gonna need the under eye bag tutorial! :D Could watch your videos for hours & hours! Thanks again!

  • I am a fan of your page but I have some concerns.......You obviously have quite a bit of black viewers. Is there not anyone you can find to do some of these videos on so that we can have a better understanding (visual), because this may be a little different for women of color. I find that because a lot of our necks are darker, this may not work for us. And this applies not only to just black women as there are a lot of races that have darker skin.

  • For a very long time been going around through makeup videos on youtube relating to identifying a person's foundation. And I have to say this is a simple video but it's very straight to the point with extremely helpful tip on finding the correct shade. Thanks for the info!

  • I lOVE your videos i can watch them for hours!!

  • i wish they had a colored make up guru for undertones :/

  • I'm italian and for me it's difficult understand but i'm learning to speack english and you are fantastic! I think that you are the best guru in YouTube :D

  • Soo useful!! I love you for this video, you are great! I have had that red problem for a long time and have always focused on covering it and always ended up with a dark shaded face and light shaded neck! Awful!!! Thanks!!

  • Mkay. So I'll just head over to my nearest drug store, take off my shirt, and start trying on foundations! Wohoo! Let's go, mom :D

  • @ThePotatoescangiggle you can wear a v neck shirt or check your undertones BEFORE you go to the drugstore

  • Great video!

  • My God! You are so hot! D: Your muscles are like daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. I wanna have you in my bed LIKE RIGHT NOW.

  • I have this problem too. My face is darker than the rest of my body, so it's hard to find a foundation shade to match it.

  • foundation on your ears ha ha u are funny!!!

  • wow, this is awesome! mo face is lighter than the rest of my body,so i'll try to match it to my chest!

  • I have a yellow undertone and in my country I just cant find a yellow based foundation all the foundation have a pink undertone ...

  • Great video!

  • you are so good Iam fair but I look nice in one shade darker:-)

  • I wanna give u a hug

  • I was wondering if you could help me here... Im very pale. Like porcelain except Im not pink undertoned. Im actually olive-y. My problem is I can't find anything yellow enough! D: I went to MAC and their NC15 isnt yellow enough. Are there any suggestions? I wish I could show you personally. I know it'd be easier to help then :D

  • @kenziebear76 have you tried makeup forever, nars or laura mercier?

  • @jmnhotgirl Nah. I dont have the money D:! But do have you tried them? If so, how good are they for getting the olive toned/yellow toned foundations but for those of us who or NC/NW15 in MAC?

  • Thts good for me then mine does match me i have olive'y skin XD xoxo Im part spanish so tht explains tht XD x

  • You are so cute!

  • Thanks so much for this video it has helped but I still have a question...what if your chest area has a red sunburnt look to it but it's not burnt? I'm also now getting a slight red going up into my neck. The amount of times people ask me if I'm sunburnt on my chest is annoying! I'm not, it's just red for some reason.

  • you have pink ears :D haha

  • AHHHHH!! Thank you!!! I'm the same as you--pale/yellowish, but I get that redness in my face as well. Has caused a lot of confusion over the years but it's all been undone in 6 minutes...Cheers!

  • yay! i finally know how to find my TRUE foundation colour! thankyouuuu!

  • Comment removed

  • omg,he look so sexyyyyyyyyy

  • what if your chest and face are more yellow and your neck is a lot darker which one would be best to lean towards in foundation

  • I love your videos.

  • Finally some useful information on selecting a foundation. Thank you.

  • Nothing called "too anything". Many love to look dark and sunkissed bronze, others prefer to look pale like dita von teese! I hate when folks try to force their opinion on folks! its rude and tacky

  • Its actually preferred to use a combo of tellow/olive and red/pink undertones. You have to experiment. If you are yellow and use only yellow foundation than you will appear more flat( which is great if thats what you like) but addingpink makes you look rosier and many people love that. SO I and other people who worked in the makeup industry can and will disagree with that

  • Some people want that more rosier undertone because it looks fresher/young. We all know that NC is gold and NW is pink in MAC. NC is lighter than NW, NW is more reddish/pink. An NC40 and NW40. There are people who see both yellow and splotches of pink on them like I said. A yellow person will not look "ashy" when wearing pink undertones, they will look PINKY

Usually we humans are not one tone! we are not all yellow! there are fair skinned yellow people with pink undertones

  • Some people are yellow toned which is light but with alot of splotches of pink. Ive seen many clients who are light/yellow but certain foundations made them look like "jaundice/yellow" they complained. The right combo of pink and yellow made them soo bright and radiant. Its all on personal preference, thats all.Our skin is very diverse,. It depends on what you are trying to bring out the most. On some days some people prefer to look more rosier so they use a pink undertone.

  • @PinkPearl691 that's interesting, but isn't that what blush is made for? to make you look "rosier"?

  • @jmnhotgirl not necessarily.

  • @PinkPearl691 then how would you apply foundation that has different undertones than your skins's?? because i've been there and it looks freaky! that's why i prefer buying a foundation that has my same undertones (yellow) and then apply blush to give myself a healthy pinky flush. how would you do otherwise?

  • @jmnhotgirl Actually, people have complained about looking more "flat" when they get yellow for their yellow undertones. I will send you a link of a video. I do the same thing, and Im satisfied with th eresults, if youre satisfied with your results than all the power to you. We all have different preferences :)

  • You're awesome...

  • This is the best video on explaining and demonstrating this topic! THANK YOU!!! I will try to figure out my true undertone tomorrow!

  • Great information! Thank you.

  • i love it!

  • I dont know if you view the comments or not. My boys have problems with redness and razor burn. Have you ever tried a 100% alovera gel? it really helps to pat some of that on your face and neck or where ever your shaving.

  • oh. I'm titillated.

  • What if your neck is very darker than your chest and your face , due to me being pregnant my skin on my neck has gotten significantly darker , I don't know what to do about it because my foundation that I have is lighter and you can tell the difference , I couldn't even bring the foundation down, that's how dark my neck is. What should I do ?

  • @flawless0326 you should probably mix a light and dark foundation and then bring it down your neck but basically mix and match colors till you find the right one

  • genius!!!

  • You are so pretty/handsome!!! =D I wish I could some how get my bf to wear foundation bc he doesn't take care of his skin at all, kind of a turn off, but I still love him

  • i never knew about this! great bit!

  • Great!!

    "Naked wink" wow!

  • Did u arch ur eyebrows? I like them. Also thnx for the tips

  • thnx! great info . was very helpfull!

  • I liked the naked-wink

  • Now I just found this video, I am loving the way you describe being "pretty bloody yellow", well now so am I lol but I didn't have to get my chest out to prove it lol, but glad you did he he he :o) me likey this video ALOT !!!

  • Got it,.

  • I can honestly say that I did not learn anything....YET... ;P

  • Thanks! Great info!!

  • wow , u know ur makeup!! favorited!! this was helpful!

  • This is an "OMG" video!

So, now with yellow undertones, what do I buy: warm, cool or neutral makeup? And, why? Is there any makeup (like blush for example) that it doesn't matter what color I use? Or, is all makeup I should use either warm or cool?

I am hoping you have a vid that covers the W or C color issue! Thanks:)

  • Forgot to mention, your channel is absolutely amazing.

  • I still don't know what undertone my skin has. Once I went to MAC to buy my first stufio finish concealer and the saleswoman said that my skin undertone is yellow, so NC, according to MAC colors, then I tested on my skin and it looked nice, but then I tried NW 20 and that look nice too. So as I got a bit of redness on face like you I bought the NW. I don't know, maybe my undertone is neutral, in this case, which kinds of makeup I should go for: pinky or yellow based? Thank you.

  • I went into Sephora and was swatching foundations on my chest and ppl were giving me the weirdest looks. Even one of the woman who works there was helping me and was trying to apply it on my hand and I said no I have to put it on my neck. (eyeroll and those "professionals")

  • great tip! i learn a lot from your videos thank you so much! since i follow your teaching people compliment me a lot on the way i put my make up. i'm an esthetician student, they don't even teach me what you are sharing with us in my school so big thanks!

  • I just got giggly without realizing it. XDDD

  • @mandith omg i did too! lol

  • wooow thanks so much for this vid...i've always wondered how to figure out my undertone to get the right shade of foundation. i never thought about looking at the chest area, but this actually really does frickin work!!! lol you're vids are awesome and informative. thanks again.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! I finally feel vindicated. Why does everyone assume that I have pink undertones just because I'm fair skinned with light green eyes! Sales women argue with me at the counter about which color to buy. They don't seem to be able to think outside the box. If you press on my arm and see pink it's a flush of BLOOD not pink undertones. Thank you for this video!

  • i am a croatien girl, they all say i am yellow undertones, and this looks too light or too yellow, never right color.but when i stand and look in the mirror,or i look my picture i see green color by my chest a yellow, green...it s this possible? what undertones is this ?? have you a tipp what foundation i should wear (with yellow AND GREEN undertones) have you a name, brand?THANK YOU SOO MUTCH !!!

  • Best advice ever. I have started requesting the SA at the make up counters match my neck, my face is 4 different colors and they ALWAYS want to match your chin area , then you end up with a bad match, I have several foundations that are the exact opposite of what I need. Thank you are are brilliant!!!

  • Another winner!! Keep the videos and helpful hints coming; we're gonna make me a little less of a mess everyday!

  • how come your face is red?

  • @AMSerene lol hes blushing all over

  • @PrettyRebel92 XD!!

  • Gr8 video. I have a question though. I have an indian skin tone and my neck and chest area are lighter than my face. In such a case should i still match the foundation with my chest area and go for a lighter shade? Wud it not look ashy? Pls help!

  • this video was very helpful! i always thought i had warm undertones (which i now know i do) but i started to doubt myself because of the natural pink flush to my cheeks. now i realize that you can have pink cheeks but still have a warm skin tone. i can finally stop researching! :) everyone else makes it so confusing!

  • BEST make up advice I have ever heard! thank you so much!

  • Hm. The problem I have with this is that I'm SO pale in the winter, I look like I have a BLUE undertone, more then anything else, really.

  • awwwww i wanna hug goss without his shirt on

  • goss without a shirt on? ooooooooooo :)

  • This is awesome! Very helpful! Thank you

  • thank you for this!

  • this is a great vedio , but me i ask if u at the store it's hard on me to try the foundation on my nick so some girls said u can try on your wirst area to match the foundation

. is that give me the same color to my body?

thank you for helping us to get more butty

  • i needed to know this...found this vintage footage...i'm very red in the face too and i looked at my body and i am yellow!!! yay:)

  • To echo the previous comments... all I can say is a huge "thank you" for this information. I swear I'm going to bookmark this page and the next time I head out to test-drive a new foundation and a well-meaning (but clueless) SA comes at me from behind the counter brandishing an over-priced bottle of makeup the color of calamine lotion, I'm going to whip out my smartphone like a crucifix and chant "No, no, no! Watch THIS guy. He knows."

  • You have perfect skin, looking you make me want to take care of mine, thanks for the advices :)

  • oh helloooo ;)

  • Thank you! I have the same kind of very pink/red/ruddy face and i have a hellish time trying to find foundation that works!

  • Great tip

  • this was a really good tip!

  • Thats aweeesome!! I hadn't seen this video yet and just last week and bought foundation for a friend and i did the same exact thing cause her face was totally different from her neck. The match was perfect, she looked amazing on pictures. :)

  • You don't have to be fully clothed on my account! I rather enjoyed sans top!

  • I think that I'm green based, but my face is more yellow, the problem is, that there are no pale and olive foundations so I have to use the yellow ones even if they are not perfect for me :-(

  • This just changed everything! For years I got matched with pink and warm foundation and no matter how much I blended it always seemed off with my neck and shoulders and this is why! I also have quite the pink cheeks and all that, OMG... Thank you!!!

  • so i gotta get naked at the drugstore! YEY!!

  • @Yumistation Im sorry officer Goss told me to get naked! :P

  • @BeautyBlissful Bahahah xDDDD

  • i love you wayne! you are one of the best make up gurus here on YT! honestly i've learned so much from you during the past six months. keep up the good work!!! tons of love and kisses!!!

  • This is the most helpful video about matching foundations to your skin! Thank you so much!!!

  • FYI: Use a "lighter" hand when you shaving. Allow the razor to do it's job instead of pressing down and trying to scrape the whiskers off, so to speak. LOL HTH

  • thanks so much! i'm quite fair girl with freckles and auburn hair, and every time I buy my foundation from mac they tell me I need nw20.

I just tried my nw20 on my neck/chest and it looks too dark, too yellow and too pink. I know that sounds contradictory but it's really quite strange. hope I haven't been one of these make-up mask women!! haha. now I'm really confused about what to buy! i wish the people at make-up counters weren't so pushy...they always talk me out of paler shades!

  • But my face is quite pale and yellow... when I use the yellow-based foundation i look anaemic :(

  • wooo! ;P thank you so much!

  • very very helpful! thank you!

  • yummm! :D

  • Amazing video. Thanks. I have a hard time picking out foundation colour and it bugs me when a salesperson tries to match me on my face....hellooo I'm wearing foundation! Ugh

  • can you still get the mac mud palette?

  • Nice Chest!

  • awww you look like a pink smurf :D i love you haha

  • THANK YOU! Every time I try to get someone to help me choose foundations, professional or not, they pick the wrong undertone. I have a bit of ruddy skin on my face, quite a lot like your actually, and it's just so nice to get some confirmation that I'm not blind when I see the same thing as you.

  • My face and body are kinda pale but my neck is like olivey(?) should I put foundation on my neck too?

  • I have a really hard time choosing my foundation, when I went to Mac the assistant told me that Im NW35. Today I got my foundation and tested it on my chest and is way darker on my chest. It seems my face is many shades darker than my real skin tone. I not sure if I should get a tan or just go again and ask them to help me with this, don't know really. But this was helpful thank you for doing this vid.

  • I am yellow-based but I'm really fair skinned and I can't find a foundation that matches me, especially my forehead which is almost white. I'm also prone to mild breakouts if I use a foundation regularly. Does anyone know an easy-to-find foundation that would be pale enough?

  • I just love how the point of wearing makeup is to not look like you're wearing makeup, its a riot lol.

  • im latin, somehow with fair skin, but....when i look myself in the mirror, i noticed that my neck area is more pink tone, and my actual face is more a yellow undertone. Do you still recomend using a neutral shade foundation, or using a pink base foundation for my face? im a little confused.

  • @dustyrose231 Match your foundation to your decollette as Goss said in this video, not your neck or your face.

  • @MrsSashee It does matter what skintone your neck is because when we apply foundation, we blend it into our neck

  • here is one thing I don't understand.. I get that you say that the neutral is the way to go, but shouldn't you be looking at the undertone of the place you are putting the foundation onto, and if your face is red/pink you neutralize with yellow since your neck is more warm based so it matches.. I don't get why you say you are not pink based- from looking at your face - you are.. the rest of the body doesn't matter since you aren't putting powder there anyways so why tell by the body ?

  • This is fully informative! Thank you very much for explaining this thoroughly.

*I do have a question though. I do makeup for a lot of hijab-wearing ladies (they wear a scarf over their hair and the scarf slightly covers the edge of their face). My question is whether the same rules would apply; would you match the foundation to the body or solely to the face since they do not show their chest at all.*

Thank you again for your awesome videos!

  • we're titillated.

  • i don't know if the wink at the end was intentional or not but you are quite charming! your tips are wonderful, now i am off to find the right color foundation for me!

  • Please answer, im desperate. I was wondering how to put on a cream product without conatminating the product. I see you always dip your brush back into the product after having it touch you face. I am very acne prone and I just would like to know if that is acceptable or if i should only dip once and hope its enough to cover my face. Anyways, love your videos and if you really could reply it would make my day :)

  • @snickersaw943 just desinfect ur makeup with rubbing alcohol, put it in an spray bottle and do this, he has a video about this find it in the search box, How desinfect makeup something like that :)

  • @snickersaw943 AHH and of course use a clean brush everytime u going to apply foundation

  • This video was so helpful,I never knew how to match my foundation. Thanks so much.

  • That was a really useful tutorial. Next time I go make-up shopping, I'll check the tonal areas on my neck & upper chest instead. I'm a man, and rarely go out without a little make-up on, but it's sometimes hard wearing make-up without looking overly made-up.

  • I also have redness on my face and the rest of my body is more yellow than pink ..good think the girl at the mac store gave me nc :)

  • This is AMAZING. Thank you so much!

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for the helpful video - i actually thought i had a pink undertone as well but its my face thats a bit on the rosy side the rest is pretty pale ..... so thanks again.

  • Thank you for the useful info. In this video you refer to your blog, could you please post the address.

  • This is actually fantastic!! Thanks:)

  • i'm still not sure, because just by looking at my skin i honestly can't tell what color i am

  • skilled, sexy, super :)

  • if your tan..from tanning how can you tell?would you just go with a tan?

  • I'm pausing this @0:55, I would say that you have yellow undertones for sure based on how your chest and neck look.

  • i thought i was pink toned and was about to embark on buying a decent foundation which i dont usually wear but i just turned 40 and feel i need a bit of a glow can you recommend any suitable foundations or should i go for a tinted moisturiser im combination skin please reply ive asked soo many gurus and had no reply xx

  • What an excellent and hepful video. I always thought my skin had a pink undertone for the very reason you named - becuase I tend to get pink/red in some areas of my face. Not so... Thank you so much!

  • Just stumbled upon your vids and I am so impressed!! You give great info that other gurus just don't even touch on. I've had a REALLY hard time determining my undertone. I find that my NW25 is just a tad bit too pink, but this really helps me! Thank you sooooo sooo much and you just gained a subscriber :)

  • would you suggest liquid foundation or a powder one?

  • it makes you look plastic:/

  • i wish i had you around to help me figure out what my foundation colour is... i'm terrified to wear foundation esp since my skintone changes so drastically from summer to winter. i know i can mix foundations but i don't bother using foundation often enough anyway... ;p

  • This was very helpful, thank you! :)

  • AHA! i saw your nipple! <3 totally screenshotted that. lmao. i'm a creep :].

  • Thank you, that helped me a lot! I have acne prone skin, so my face tends to look red. But my body , especially my neck is really yellow. With the right undertone the foundation looks more natural.

  • What brush are you using to put the foundation on??

  • Wayne, you are so beautiful and despite the titillation, I learned something very important that I have always had trouble with. What undertone am I??? Thank you for explaining it so perfectly. As always, an excellent tutorial. Hugs.

  • thanks for the help! I also have a very pink face but my neck is more yellower. I don't even know what color my chest is because it's been burned then developed into a tan o_O

  • My chest is always very pink, and sometimes blood red. What color would I shoot for in foundation? I have tried so many things. This was beyond insightful! You are very educated on this, and very helpful! I subscribed!

  • this is an awesome video!! thank you so much! i get that a lot too, pink face, pink ears and people and makeup artists mistaken me for having pink undertones! but not my shoulders or chest! hahaha... i've subscribed! =)

  • im drooling.....thnk god th view dosent go below ur chest *continues drooling*

  • Love this vid!!! Every time I went to a Mac store, the girls there would always match their foundations to my face and I always ended up with the wrong shade! Thanks for this vid. Now I know most of those girls don't know what they're doing!!! Thanks

  • This vid is exactly what I was looking for, thanks so much!

Now I finally know what my undertone is! (yellow)

  • This is fantastic! Now I know why my foundation never seem to blend well with my neck. My face is pink but I have warm tones (or so everyone says) This is really great information, thank you so so much. I haven't got a chance to go through all your videos yet but have you reviewed Make Up Forever HD Microperfecting Primer?

  • Great tutorial! :D I'm going to use this as reference for my foundation now! Thanks!

  • FINALLY a MUA that agrees with me on useing your neck and chest as a colour guide instead of your jawline!! :) ♥

  • u r adorable!!!! thank you for your help... (:

  • Not sure if I am being helpful here but I had a bf who had the same prob as u re shaving. He changed to a braun shaver (one with a long single razor rather then a philips type - for no other reason then it was his 1st and they r easier to use) and used an oil (king of skin r something) and all the itchiness and redness went away.
