The Mario Bros. actually are twins, though not identical. Mario is older because he came out first. It IS possible for one to be born earlier than the other even on different days. If you have any doubts about them being twins simply go and beat SMB2: Yoshi's Island.

@99foxgirl there are no "younger" twin brothers. twins mean they were born the same day, so they have the same age. but luigi is indeed the younger brother. that rules out twins by default
