@Dancingfool721 I was trying to figure out how this was slowed down as I hadn't seen any other version. So I watched another video and you're right. But, to be honest, I like it slightly slower.
Thanks for taking me down memory lane. Amy has to be on the top 5 favorite roles I ever played as an actor. Thank you Sondheim for your musical theatre genius and giving actors some of the most unique and incredible roles to play!
I recently got the cd of the original "Putting it together" with Julie Andrews. She did all three parts and FAST! It was amazing, I recommend listening to it once.
@ilikeslideshows That would be Bronson Pinchot. He sang a lot in Perfect Strangers, and very ably too!
One Broadway number that I remember, in the episode "Digging up the News", is performed by Larry & Balki with wonderful harmony - considering it was a comedy show setting, not a Broadway stage! It can be found on YouTube at lXUHZqZlJZc. ;)
And this version is at a tempo that I can actually practice at w/o getting so tongue-tied. Once I have the words down to the point I don't have to think of them, then I'll try up to tempo... ugh... lol
They did Company at my high school (yeah, don't ask. Just don't.) a while back, and only one girl who tried out could even say all the lines without turning it into a jumbled mess or cracking up. Gotta give Carol Burnett props for doing this so well.
@CYAN127 I think so too, but I think Howland was under more pressure to get it the way Sondheim did it because she's the "initiator" and has to set the standard. I think if Burnett devoted some time to it she might actually be able to sing a lot faster than this vid, but her voice isn't really the sort of voice that could get away without nuance, whereas Howland had this kind of squeak to her voice that would be effective even if she sang monotonously, which she sort of did for her tempo.
XD this is a lovely example of what marriage does to people. Now all we need is the dress set on fire and her standing on the alter with the bouquet in one hand and a squirrel in the other.
@fabulousminge - yes, it is John Barrowman in the chorus of this song. He appears in many more videos on this channel. You can also do a Google search for "theBestArts John Barrowman" to find a collection of many of his best performance videos.
Unfortunately, the "Putting It Together" video is region 1 only, so doesn't play on standard DVD players in the UK. However, it should play on all PC DVD players worldwide. You can buy it in the UK from Amazon without paying international shipping.
This is one of the best performances Carol ever gave! I am a HUUGGEE fan of Carol and this is pure perfection! I can't even speak that fast, let alone sing!
I also absolutely LOVE Ruthie's singing here, very pretty! I'm usually not a big fan of Ruthie Hanshall, but this was very nice!
Let's just be grateful that we have a record of these legendary talents performing this brilliant song. They weren't competing, so why declare a winner?
I love carol burnette in this-- the ONLY thing I wish is that it were possible to have it as fast as the original-- I think that's one of the best aspects of this song! (though carol does make up for it very well)
I so love this version of this song!!
