Separation of church and state would mean that there TRULY would be no difference between a gay and straight couple. This would mean that Gay people like myelf would have less reason to fight for rightss to marry, and therefore ease the conflict between gays and churches. The Chruch should NOT be a governmental issue in a democracy.

Yes, President Obama supports Civil Unions for same-sex couples (which do have the same rights as heterosexual marriages). The problem is that he is going to leave those decisions up to the states; and that is where gay rights slows down. If the Supreme Court would have not given the people the right to vote on something that should be completely legal, gay marriage would be seen more in the United States.

its not different. civil union is marriage in respect to the state. the state does not have the authority to tell the church to honor gay marriges, nor should it. obama is 100% right that the seperation of church and state should be upheld, but at the same time gay people should have the legal right to marry according to the laws of their state.

Not really, its not ALL religious, civil unions aren't recognized by the fed gov't , so you can't file joint taxes on your fed. taxes for example. Also all of the tax breaks that are often given out to married couples don't apply if you're in a civil union.

you misinterpret what he said. He said he didnt support it, but it's not up to him to decide whats best for people to decide on marriage. In other words, I don't think people should be gay and married, but if thats what they want then I have no say so over that issue. Whereas Palin blatantly said she doesn't approve of it.
