  • If you have not done this correctly, you're bff will die of blood loss. No pressure.

  • I was told to make the vertical slits not as deep and take it one layer of tissue, at a time. Then you make the horizontal cut between the rings. Then you insert the tube.

  • The video is wrong, in my opinion. I'm not a doctor, but in first aid situations the cut should be made HORIZONTALLY - not vertically as you see here on the video. about 1,5cm wide (half inch), carefull not to to make too wide! Just above the small cartilage below adams apple.

Surgeons do this the vertical way, using spreaders and cut lower. Surgery is not the same as first aid, where a person must know how to do this in ~5min before the throat swells up - there's no time to go to a hospital.

  • I saw in other videos that a vertical slit is made in the skin, but once you're down to the actual trachea, a horizontal slit is made. They said the vertical slit is made so you don't cut through blood vessels.

  • I think that if you cut vertically through the cartilaginous rings, it will be a lot harder to heal. I believe that a horizontal cut between the thick cartilaginous rings is where you want to make the cut in the trachea, right?

  • That wasn't a horizontal slit, that was a vertical slit. So which is it? Vertical goes up and down, like the slit on your video, and horizontal goes side to side.

  • Thanks that was very educational

  • it's funny :D
