  • The zipper entry is the biggest advancement of the hennessy hammock. My biggest complaints are the bottom, velcro entry and the cold nights. I think I have the zipper mod solved now it's time to figure out an under pad without braking the friggen bank. Have you slept in cold weather with the hammock yet?

  • @Mrlilbigshot Yeah, I was considering getting the zipper mods done from 2QZQ in PA. But went with a different setup all together. I have some vids of the Grand Trunk Ultralite hammocks with arrowheadequipment buckles and webbing, Warbonet bugnet, and Superly. All wrapped in a Peapod :o) I like this system much better because I can eliminate the bugnet in colder months. The coldest I had slept with the HH was about freezing.

  • I didn't read all the comments so forgive me if someone touched on this. How about leaving everything in tact including sleeping bag and stuffing it all in one compression sack? The only downsides I can figure is a wet fly and a crunched together underpad. Thoughts?

  • @Mrlilbigshot The fly stays with it anyway. As fro the pad, I suppose you could try it. The snakes skins aren't big enough to leave the pad in though. I suppose you could make bigger snake skins so the pad fits in as well.

  • It takes quite a time to confirm the hammock. With wind and rain, not fine. I think not really waterproof windy and rain in the hammock. The hammock seems too heavy in weight to take into backpack. I own a Hilleberg AKTO. I can build my tent in 4 minutes. It weighs only 3 pounds. with friendly greetings, Bushman. tent

  • @Bushmanzweden This system only weighs 3 1/2 lbs. complete. You don't have to put all this covering on every time :o) Only once. The entire system other than the foam pad rolls up in the snake skins :o) Very quick and easy :o) Yes the fly/tarp is a little small. It is still water proof but yes it could be a problem with hard driving rain. I haven't used these much for a long time. I have a new system(on 3 other videos) that I like much better. Check them out out! Thanks for your feedback :o)

  • Don't know much about Hennesy but your over and under cover seem back assward. If you get caught in a down pour that thing is going to act like a catch basin and you are going to be lying in a tub of water.

    Poor design I think.

  • @IBowHuntElk Wrong :o) That is the right and only way! You don't use it with out the fly brother. If you watch part 3 you'll see the fly! Always use a fly or tarp! The shelter is just too keep the cold out not the rain :o)

  • @shaynadaniel Hehe! Well for one, the covers aren't intended to shed rain! The intention is to keep the warmth in. there is a large breathing hole on one side...hehe! You still have to put the fly on it! The fly comes with the hammock and the covers are designed on the ends to fit on this way. There is no other way! Watch part 3!

  • I commented last year but do you have any update on the setup? How did it preform last winter?

  • @Wraith99 I didn't use the Hennessy's last winter. I needed to get an underquilt but I was tired of the bottom entry and JRB was the only one that made a UQ for it so I had to decide on doing the zipper and suspension mod to them or buy new rigs. The fly is way too small as well for Yukon winters. so I ended up buying some new sweet rigs! Check out my latest vids on the Grand Trunk hammocks with arrowhead suspension, Pea Pods, bug nets and Super Fly Winter tarps. It's a great system :o)

  • I'm not expert but it seems to me that you would put the undercover on before the top cover.

  • @rasnake123456789 Wrong!

  • You and Zowey just kill me. Hiking in blue jeans ... how do you do it?

  • @EconoChallenge Hehe! We weren't hiking on this day buddy! We were in the bush just off the highway specifically just to do this series :o)

  • This video is excellent. I only have one thing to bring up, I was listening with headphones and it felt like I had a mosquito buzzing near my ear. I seriously swatted the headphones off lol. Other than me being a bonehead this was an awesome comprehensive walk through. Maybe this is stupid question but the super shelter is made by Hennessy Hammock? Would you call the 3 or 4 season?

  • Thanks very much,I appreciate that :o) Trying to swat the mosquito must have been fun for ya...hehe! That would have been the one flying close to the camera! Yes, the super shelter is an option made by Hennessey Hammock :o) I suppose they call it a 4 season due to the fact they have been tested to -18C!

  • Better yet, that skeeter came through in stereo! Freaked me out!

  • Haha...I was laughing when I first played it back :o)

  • GREAT VIDEO

One question, Have you tried out the SS during the winter? Any Tips or tricks for keeping warm? I've heard of throwing a hand warmer down in with the underpad have you tried that out at all?

  • Thanks man...This will be the first winter with them. I am going to try the space blankets with the underpad and a wool blanket But I'm sure as the weather gets colder I'll have to get some underquilts.

  • Question: aside from the underpad can you leave the over cover and under cover setup on the hammock? I can imagine hiking 20 miles in cold weather then trying to do all the tying with cold hands. Is there an extra large snake skin that just swollows all components so you don't have to mess with them each setup?

  • The entire setup stays together in the snake skins other than the pad. It's a one time installation for the super shelter. Thanks for watching. :o)

  • did you do a complete set up with just the over cover then undo it and attach the under cover?

  • Yes it was, other than the fly ! It is easiest to do the way I demonstrated in all three parts.

  • Awesome Video!! Great demonstration. I am thinking about purchasing one of these. But, want to see one deployed first. but, I do not know anyone with one. Thanks for this it helped me a lot. 5/5 ED

  • Hey ED! I'm glad I could bring it to you, and glad you enjoyed it! I intentionally tryed to make it long, and in greater detail as I was confused about some aspects of it as well. there really was nothing out there that gave me what I wanted to know! Thanks for watching...Rich.
