  • I too feel at home and relaxed when in the woods, its as if time slows down in there things become real! I love just being in the woods away from society, kids yelling and swearing, ambulances and police sirens, pimped out hondas with 25 inch bass woofers, I like hearing the streams, and the chatter of the animals talking, the whispers of the leaves telling their stories...

  • Im considering detaching myself from society. Selling my mercedes and buying an old pickup truck, an RV, 3000 watts in solar panels and a solar water heater and just move to the mountains. ill attach a big ass antenna and get long distance wifi from some area within line of sight or from 4g. hunt and grow my own food and live in a half acre of land. i would have no use for anything outside of medical assistance. my own problem is that if i had a major heart attack or something id be screwed

  • @MrJonJuda Do it...

Buy a disstress signal capable GPS... emergency services will be alerted at the push of a button if you ever need them.

  • wow! you can put a price on things, and people might buy them???!!! This is revolutionary, thanks so much!

  • I dont see how anyone can not see his point...Obviously you can go into the woods and find smthng you can turn into US dollars..find some wood and carve it, like he said, take a video of it in an interesting manner and put it on YT, i mean UHHH hes got 100,000 views hes probably made atleast a couple hundred bucks off this video. OPen your mind up if you cant see his point, if you cant, then you must be some pathetic sub human who cant remember 99% of his ancestors lifestyle. Make wreaths fuck

  • good vid thx

  • Dude, I lived in the wilderness for 4 years. I was a trapper. I hunted, had a dog team. I made a living out there. Your video essentially says nothing. I mean Im glad your out there and all, but your video is pointless.

  • It says nothing to you because you don't understand it. Ninety some thousand other people got something out of it. Perhaps it is time for you to go back to the woods except this time learn to tune-in instead of just take.

  • This would not be bad at all. I could totally see myself building a cabin and living like this. Humans were meant to be a part of nature, in my opinion.

  • I like to live in the wilderness on some weekends I spend time in the brutal wilderness and sometimes I like to spend time hanging out with friends ice skating or just simply cruising around on a four wheeler with a rope tied to my partner seeing how fast he can run, but Ur video rocks ROCK ON BUT dont freeze your balls off like my great uncle Fritz died back over 100 years before I was even in the woom

  • Living in the Wilderness without comfort is in fact only a short time. After many weeks out there your comfort zone changes and many things that make you comfortable are much diffrent than when you first started living there. Now just haveing water, shelter and food seem to make you comfortable. So as i said your comfort level changes and befor you know it you are more than comfortable living in the wilderness.

  • man, i'd be panning for gold

  • ...and then they jumped on their snowmobiles and headed down the mountain to their weekend cabin. The weekend is so short, and the city awaits us. Back to work on Monday.

  • @magprob that's the sad part

  • All you need is a Corner Shop.

  • Hey give me some of what hes smokin!!

  • Great vid. 5/5

  • So, concretely, what do you do to be wealthy in the woods? Because i'm planning to go university, and do something to have some kind of rent and actually live on my property with plenty tools to make my own stuff. Yesterday, i went cross a hermit and he told me some winters it was rough sleeping in a shelter, even with a thick iron stove.

  • @Rhinoch8 no

  • @citizen773 Huh?

  • @Rhinoch8 oh.. wait, i mean yes!

  • @citizen773 Really interesting!

  • Comment removed

  • Along the same lines, this; knowledge is like mining gold, it takes real effort and the understanding that it is where you find it (period)

  • this man is retarded

  • @ninlandon ur retarded fucking faggot suck my cock!

  • kill hippies

  • Last winter I spend almost four months in my 10x12 army wall tent alone. It was about 40kms north-east from 100 Mile House in BC. Many enthusiastic thinking folks here have no idea what life in a wilderness really is. What I'm saying is stop fooling you self. 99% of us will be dead by the end of their first week when it drops to -25C. Humans are simply not created for this life...no claw, fur, our body temperature is different verses animals. Sorry, if I killing someone dream.

  • why did you black out the moment of death? i mean, if killing is such a natural thing for us to do, we should yearn to watch it. carnivores dont wince in horror. so, obviously our aversion to watching it may coincide with the fact that it opposes our nature, and hence our biology.

  • but are there any communties like this in Virginia?! I want to get out of society and stop paying bills to creeps. I want to be off the grid and on the wilds of National Forests (west of Luray). lostmartian2000@yahoo.com

  • @lostmartian5 Floyd County has a few communities. I've also daydreamed about simply living in the National Forest and BLM land. You can stay for usually like 3 weeks. It's your car that might give you away, so if you do it without a car, you could stay even longer. Check out Rainbow gatherings, they have annual gatherings where over 10,000 people live in the National Forest for 2 weeks. I believe one could live quite nicely like this with minimal expenses.

  • I live in the Czech Republic. This summer I visited some mates who live in Slovakia as children but now in CZ. It was great to see them as always, and coming back I was to hiking 100Km from Zlin to Brno and camp, living in nature, very popular here, but I must admit I was a pussy, I wound up staying in campgrounds/hotels most of the time! It was a wonderful time this summer, but I admit it is much harder than it seems to be, and it was summer! Good luck to you David!

  • Did you have a fire? Sure helps to have a fire.

The average person can only go 24 hours without comfort. Even an experienced Ranger can only go about a day once their comfort level has been breached.

  • @DavidLakota if the average person can only go 24 hrs without comfort, then I must be very, very far from average :)

  • @gallanator Aman Brother!!

  • @DavidLakota

These are certainly words of wisdom.

  • I used to take mushrooms too!

  • Your doing well unlike most of others or I cant tell.

  • david your an inspiration, i hope to do the same but with a house boat.

  • If you want to become rich you have to share for a huge fee instead of a small fee or even for free.

  • You could have just said "take pictures & sell them." But then your video would only be 3 seconds long.

  • we'll surely meet. goodluck and till then goodbye.

  • amen brother...

  • So what does the A stand for?

  • Yes, we can live in the wilderness, make a lot of wealth, and still have a low impact on the earth. In fact, we can help nature a make it even better. I intend to prove this.

  • Well said. I just stepped up my focus and passion to prove this as well- for myself and others. To prove it and to continuously improve-up on it. Good luck. May the Force be with ya.

  • @josenavarro1973 you gone be a mountain man??

  • @josenavarro1973 yeah good for u keep ur determenation up!

  • Obviously "rich" in his interpretation is not monetary riches, He is referring to the wealth of quality of life, beauty, harmony and peace (at least that is how I hear his words).

  • Hey BoomTao,

Thanks for the support. While I mostly meant quality of life, peace of mind, beauty, harmony, etc, this video was made to explore, discover and realize what JoseNavarro said above, "We can live in the wilderness, make a lot of wealth, and still have a low impact on the earth. In fact, we can help nature make it even better."

This is more than just a good idea. It is our human destiny and responsibility.

  • @boomtao when he said put a price tag and then said for a small fee or free i think he means to take the money you need and not just to make a Business out of it

  • NAFTA wants to chop through northern MN to build a super highway. Don't let them ruin my home :(

  • @vegism Ron Paul wont let it happen!

  • the ecosystems surrounding the "self-replentishing resource" (sic) however will never "self replentish"

  • Sure it will.

Once the people move out, nature moves back in, and how!

Look up "green island" for an example. Or better yet, the city of Pripyat (sp?) in Russia. There're also the beavers that have been making a come back in Detroit, just for a further example.

Seriously if we all (by all i mean all 6 billion of us) died tomorrow, in 1000 years time it will be like we were never here

  • He's talking about making money off showing other people how to survive in the wilderness, or something similar to that... not destroying the very thing you go into the wilderness for in the first place.

  • shame your intelligence isn't self-replenishing

  • Don't forget mining! Although not self-replenishing, the iron and copper etc. is no good to anyone under the ground, what's more we can use it again and again. Cars can be melted down and made into RSJs etc..

  • I lived that way for six years...colorado, alaska, new mexico...it's a hard way to go

! forest service running everyone out of the forest. gotta hide your place.

  • David your videos shook my beliefs... in a good way! you live a inspired existence friend... Im always happy to find a new video from you... have any recent mystical experiences to share with me?

  • Never been that far up north.

    I live in SouthWestern MN.

    Looks fun

  • not fun...

  • I know of someone who was a "guru" he would act as a guide for novices it's amazing the amount of food and gear that was given to him.

  • Great Video!

    I digg your style...

  • ...see and this is exactly the illusion man has fallen into: that we have power over nature. We are stewards yes, in a sense. Because we can influence our environment (locally) enough to cause imbalance in an otherwise balanced system. But do we have power over nature? Hell no. If the Earth so much as shudders we don't stand a chance despite all our "amazing technology". Time for all of us to be more humble...

  • I love it, but earning a living and being "rich" are two different things. You can be rich as in having a lot of money but you can be rich without having money at all as well. You can't however earn a living without making money.

  • Well said. So many people are facing the challenge of doing what they enjoy and reconciling the difficulties with money. Any advice? Where are you in all of this?

  • David, this is living in reality! We are nature, so wilderness is not only around us, it's within us. It's time to be nature again, not being just part of it.

  • u friggin hippies....get an education an try living in reality

  • Einstein was America's first hippie, so I guess that's a compliment, 'specially since he was so educated and taught us so much about reality. By the way, I like the two videos on your YouTube channel, "Real murder caught on tape" and "How the pro's load their skid-loader's (Bobcat)". That is some great education about your reality.

  • lick my balls u beatnick. einstein was not a hippie, he had a job!

  • No, I'm not going to lick your balls. Einstein was actually a hippie, America's first actually according to his best friend who announced that fact during a global television broadcast to more than 200 million people on December 31st, 1999. What is a beatnick anyway. And do all rednecks like theire balls licked or are you just one of the few cross-dressers?

  • good reply! :D

  • Thanks for the comments.

In my experience there is wilderness everywhere if you go lookin for it. It doesn't take much. Find a place no matter how small where you can get off the beatn path.

Regarding making a video about Outdoor Living, please remind me and I will send you one.

  • This is a good little video. Winter is a good choice for filming -- winter is the essence of our endeavor.

I support what you are doing. I'm sorry you have received some irrational feedback. Trying to be a better person triggers a lot of resentment in people who want you to be small like they are. I have no sympathy for them: they are losers and weaklings who have the lives they deserve.

Keep up the good work and good luck on your journey.

  • hmmmm....whatever your smoking I want some.

  • Yeah, it's mostly flat, except for Spirit Mountain which has pretty fuckin sweet downhill ski runs, big jumps and a vista spanning hundreds of square miles. The tallest point we sent to allowed us to see thousands of square miles of uninhabited wilderness. The wildness and extreme cold were challenging. The beauty and expansiveness was awe-inspiring. Insights and clarity were profound. Video captured only a fraction of the essence of the experience. Sound like you had a bad experience in MN.

  • Love the way you reply really calmly and unaggressively to hateful comments (drives those people nuts, though, I believe, but anyway ;-) It's the only way one should counter hatefulness - seems like you've learned well from nature. Thanks for the videos, you do live in a beautiful place...

  • yeah loggers do that everyday, they cut the wilderness down and share it with everyone and make a profit...how ideal! fuckin tard

  • Yeah, I really enjoy being a logger. All of my life I've been cutting down trees, bucking 'em up and making firewood. Even made a few log homes. Now I'm wonderin' if it might be smart to start plantin' em so that there are some for my grandchildren. The better I take care of the forest, and the best I show my kids how, the stronger, healthier and more valuable the forest is. By the way wise man, what exactly is a fuckin' tard.

  • You're a prime example of the people with "human-hating ideologies"; if you were to just listen to youself.

  • Where do you get the "enviro" part and where is the human-hating ideology? What's wrong with wanting to live in the wilderness AND be able to make a living at it? Just trying to understand.

  • Thanks for your comments. I empathize with you. Most of the human interaction with nature that I have seen has been destruction, one-sided, with little or no regard for animals, plants, trees or each other. However, there is a way. Anyone can plant a tree or a plant, pick up garbage and learn to tread softly. It is human responsibility to be stewards of the land rather than its usurpers. The challenge is to DO SOMETHING, anything that brings you closer to the natural world.

  • nice videos only seen a couple so far, and i like what you said here.

  • I like your Video Bro..sounds like you are allready rich in your heart, you seem To have good vaules..and thats what really matters...

    Five Bears

  • Yata-hey Five Bears,

I appreciate your feedback. Yes, I am rich in heart and since making this video I have had more money and free time and friends and family than ever.

Now I just need to reapply this wisdom as I have once again been drawn, pushed or pulled to a place that is further from the wilderness than I prefer.

    Hoka-hey

  • I like the idea David, but it seems to me that people in the past, even good intending people, have misused the natural resources around us.

  • Hey Dutch, Yes resources have been misused and abused. The great misuse I have experienced is depriving myself of the beauty, quiet and serenity. Nature is very resilient and there is opportunity for people to learn how to co-exist in a mutually beneficial way. Most people I know living in the wilderness abuse it, neglect it, and still deprive themselves of it. So, the challenge remains to discover and live a balance of the best of both worlds.

  • i thought it was funny at the end.....where they fell... ^_^ sorry for tha miss understanding

  • Glad you thought it was funny. But it worked. I was wonderin' at the time how I might live in the woods and still be able to make a decent living. I asked a friend to hold the camera and ask me that questions. This was the answer. Yeah, I'm willing to look like a fool for an ideal way of life.
