It's real, but that's not to say it isn't deceptive. The needle is a heavy leatherworking needle, not a regular sewing needle. It's heavy enough that it will even go through the glass eye-first. He also gives the impression he releases it a good deal farther from the glass than he actually does. If you watch closely, you'll see it happens only an inch or 2 away. The "qi gathering" act beforehand helps too.
I believe monks can do amazing things, but sadly this is a hoax. After he throws the first needle he never gets another one. I watched over several times...he does not have a needle on the second attempt. Where does he get it from? He had a second one stored in this other hand? I'm pretty sure he didn't.
Also, watch the man's hand who is holding the blue balloon after it pops. He has some sort of black object in his hand. You can see him attempt to hide it...
@LoveConsiousness ...no in the beginning you can see him still holding another needle in his hand after grabs the first one....and that black object that the balloon holder is holding is the part of the balloon he was grabbing..
@XDsylwek I thought the same thing. But, if the guy holding the balloon is also holding a needle, why didn't it pop the first time? But, perhaps because I think this way, they show a slight bit of fallibility and pop it the second time. Who knows.
@XDsylwek he had one hand behind his back.....so unless you can explain to me how he pops it with one hand holding the balloon and the other behind then i believe he did not have a needle.
not bad, i use same technique to throw those plastic chopsticks through wooden interior doors. it actually goes through the door and out the other side by atleast 1 - 2 inches every time. i taught my kiddies the technique so they can defend themselves with similar implements in their surroundings.
actually, breaking a glass with a needle is possible. I have seen it in one of those myth-busters-like shows. I'm not saying the monks didn't cheat, because I'm sure it depends on the thickness of the glass and the strength of the person throwing the needle. I'm just saying it's really possible.
@phoeniximperator If you trained long and hard enough this would be quite simple compared to what else they can do. Look up Thích Quảng Đức if you want to see the real power of bio-feedback.
the monks have let themselves become gimmcks and trickery!! thats it! it didn't happen the first time????????? so what i've seen plenty of ppl do things that didn't work the first time they tried but these were still gimmicks! when a magician mess up his trick its still trick! popping balloons is popping balloons end of, its still a gimmick! no matter how fancy you do it!
tarokirl, I agree with U that many do like a circus~~~~and this demo confusing why the monk need RESERVE THE QI after throwing, in the Internal, once one throw (motion) and stay back hands to torso (stay) the Qi is back to DanTian ~~~This is a bit over-acted !!!
@tarokirl or you could see it that they are bringing awareness to a sleepy world. Which creates hope for those seeking something outside of what they have been taught. Either way you can look at it.
This doesnt look like a circus to me this is more of a magic show minus the trickery. no ones dressed up as a pimp making a goat jump thru hoops here. this is all real. we need one of these shows playing in every town coz it blows my mind
@lantyboy696 WHAT? Why are so many ignorant people commenting on this page! The Shaolin temple has no problem feeding its students, and is partially funded by the government anyway.
@tarokirl Why are you talking like that, you're not even Chinese. They've "shamed" themselves? You're from America you phony. The Shaolin Temple's integrity is still intact regardless of a demonstration these people did. I don't even think that these men are Shaolin monks, judging on how thin their arms are...
@tarokirl maybe they have to do exibitions in this commercial world we live to preserve their tradition i don't think they are doing anything wrong at all
Don't know if anyone noticed but the man holding the balloon lowered it slowly and maybe he punctured it through the part showing under the glass.
