I watched some other videos of Grisha (this was the first I had seen). He definitely shows a mastery of the picado elsewhere, so I rescind my critique in my previous post. I would have to say he is as close to Paco as anyone I've seen.
Excellent playing. Definitely strong shades of Paco. I think where he falls short, at least in this performance, is in his picado. I'm not sure anyone can touch Paco there. But, regardless, this is extremely good.
Watching this right hand in motion is a treat on its own. So articulate and precise, it makes it easy to see all the techniques used with all the details. I will not get into the senseless comps with other players as everyone of them has great qualities, including Grisha here who's virtuosity seems hard to top. What i know is we will have another 3 or 4 decades of him to hear and watch on whatever technological devices the future will bring to us. I look forward to that... Incredible musician...
Grisha is an excellent guitarist. He is lucky that he started at such a young age. At a neurophysiologic level playing music at a young age actually changes the way your brain develops. Not to take away from all the hours of practice he has put in..... keep posting videos!
Grisha is an excellent guitarist. Just because he isn't grimacing or making weird facial contortions doesn't mean he isn't passionate! Is you would listen to this video without seeing him sitting there you would think it's being played by a very "passionate" guitarist!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ask this guitar-playing Robot to accompany a flamenco Dancer or Singer and He would not have a clue ,he would be lost.Sure he has the Fingers ,but so does a fast Typist.True Flamenco sounds like the south of spain,Andalucia ,this is just not the real thing impressive as his technique is and he can really play, just lacks Duende.
seeing how his not from south of Spain i don't see why people expect him to have Duendo. His not a robot, he just lacks the emotionality and sensibility that we are use to seeing from a flamenco player from Spain. However this doesn't mean he lacks any of it, maybe every person expresses ones emotion and sensibility in a different way, some are quite and have no face expression, some you can see in there body language. i've seen him live and he has much passion just like Paco saw in him.
@sasan705 when a person plays a type of music from outside his race, people often say the person plays with no emotion. It's like a subtle form of prejudice.

What I wanted to ask, how is this bulerias called? on wich CD is it? I tought I knew most of his work....gues not, and I like it there's plenty to discover...what else did you aspect off course from...God:-)
This bulerias was recorded on Solo Quiero Caminar, track #7. As for your earlier comment... Well, I think the compositions I play are worthy of being heard in concerts today. Paco de Lucia doesn't perform this stuff any more, so this music exists solely on recordings. If nobody plays these pieces they will only be known to those who buys the records. I think, if I play these wonderful pieces well I will only contribute to the overall popularity of flamenco.
Also, I DO compose a lot and some day I will record a CD with my music. I doubt, however, that it will be pure flamenco, as my interest extends beyond this style.
I know grisha, I'am a foromember and I know a bit of your classical plans(etc..)and I fully support you (if you care).I know you compose and the reason you didn't brought out a cd is cause of your professionality. I have great respect for you and if there's one player worthy of these pieces, it's you.You bring them as the masterpieces they are.
I just wanted to make sure that nobody "diminishes or declines" Paco de Lucia. What that man has done for flamenco, and guitar playing in general is huge, and I can stand it when people compare some unworthy guitar player with him.(Off course this isn't the case here cause you rock Grisha!!:-))peace
Thanks! I fully agree with your comment regarding Paco's role. I think there is no other Paco at the moment and maybe it'll take years or decades for somebody to come along who would rise to a similar technical, musical and compositional level and who would be as innovative. Or maybe it'll never happen. That's precisely why I want people to hear the stuff Paco's already done more often. He's a genius.
First of all, he can't be better than paco cause it's paco's song. there's a great difference between composing a piece like this and just playing it.Grisha is technicly a great player, but hasn't composed a single song. Second, if you would hear paco like this, strait in your face, no studio effects on his sound, you would be pretty impressed as wel!!
You can't be better than Paco because his level is perfection. However, this is an extraordinary performance of a substantially difficult piece in an unusual tuning. Brilliant!
he's great but damn it i want to hear about a guitarist who started playing the guitar at late age like 20 years old they are all started when they was under 10 years old and this disappoint me
I imagine he plays custom made guitars. You can get a reasonably good flamenco guitar imported from Spain for far less than it would cost to pay an American luthier to build one. Either way, expect to spend some big bucks.

"Learn to not use a capo" that is the most idiotic thing I have heard....he is using the capo to play in a buleria style...the capo just makes you play in a higher octave...pitch....wow....
"learn not to use a capo"? that surely must be some kind of joke. grisha can learn not to use a capo in half a second. let's see how long it takes the last two to start playing like him...
