Being vegan or vegetarian isn't just not eating meat, it's sacrificing something to boycott the cruelty of animals. What Oprah has done to promote fighting against puppy mills is great, she doesn't have to take the extra step and become vegetarian, although it would really help speak out against animal cruelty.
Having actually done rescues from puppy mills, I know how bad it is. It's so painful watching a dog unable to walk or even eat because of the things a human has done to it.
fighting animal cruelty and being a vegan are totally different things. being a vegan means you dont eat anything that comes from an animal including eggs,milk etc. in my view its not animal cruelty to milk a cow or get eggs from hens. ITS the way they treat the animals and the living conditions they are in. iam not a vegan because i chose products/food that i know have better living conditions fr the animals. i think its ok to get milk or eggs or meat and fish as long as its treated well.

Someone needs to check out the FDA about the latest Mars recall (september 12 2008) Apparently they are not aware of what 31 states Mars is saying is part of the recall. By the way the plant was shut down in July that made the food that is part of the recall.

That's not true at all. Sure, there are screwed up people out there who torture other humans- but more people think they can get away with animal abuse. Why? Because they don't believe they have feelings. You kick a dog, it feels the pain. Some people think they're here to serve us... like toys, or something. So they can crate them up like books on a shelf and forget about them. Sure, toss them some chicken once in a while. But they can feel, and people treat animals far worse than humans now.

No, I understand that, in a way. Human rights could be better. But I don't think it's WORSE than the way animals are treated. People have a bit of human decency- a lot of people just firmly believe animals don't have feelings or souls, so it doesn't matter to them if they hurt, mutilate, beat, or murder an animal. I do agree that human rights is pretty bad... but I think that situation has gotten a LOT better over the years.
But that isn't what this film and documentary is about. It's not about human rights. We know human rights could be a LOT better. But this is a documentary on the bad treatment of dogs.
I hope this opens people's eyes and encourages them to do more research about where they get their dogs from. ESPECIALLY from pet stores. I discourage 100% buying from pet stores. I missed this episode and I'm hoping my search around the internet will help me to find the full episode so I can watch it (even though i've known about this stuff for years) Lisa Ling does amazing work and I love watching documents on certain cases.

Apparently a lot of people here have never actually met a dog who has survived these horrors. I've fostered 20 dogs that were released or seized directly from puppy mills. The older females are overbred and shy, the surplus males are undersocialized and thrown away like trash, the young puppies are maimed in some way which makes them unable to be sold to a puppy store.

Oh god... Oprah can't use her money to save every puppy in America. Puppy mill owners are to-themselves, very private, and it's hard to even get visits in the puppy farms. You can't just buy off the police force to go in and shut them down. There are lots of contracts, and so many other things. BUT this video (if you watched the whole thing) shows a man who has been helping dogs by taking the ones no longer needed from puppy mills. He's doing a GREAT thing.

That's not true at all. Sure, there are screwed up people out there who torture other humans- but more people think they can get away with animal abuse. Why? Because they don't believe they have feelings. You kick a dog, it feels the pain. Some people think they're here to serve us... like toys, or something. No, I understand that, in a way. Human rights could be better. But I don't think it's WORSE than the way animals are treated. People have a bit of human decency- a lot of people just firmly believe animals don't have feelings or souls, so it doesn't matter to them if they hurt, mutilate, beat, or murder an animal. I do agree that human rights is pretty bad... but I think that situation has gotten a LOT better over the years.

Apparently a lot of people here have never actually met a dog who has survived these horrors. I've fostered 20 dogs that were released or seized directly from puppy mills. The older females are overbred and shy, the surplus males are undersocialized and thrown away like trash, the young puppies are maimed in some way which makes them unable to be sold to a puppy store.
