@superstuey - seems your knowledge of music is shallow. I happen to write classical music and know composers who mix techno with opera as well as those who DJ at dance clubs yet can write classical chamber music. Ziggy Stardust onward was influenced in part by early Phillip Glass - check Alex Ross' The Rest Is Noise". Eno who worked with Bowie was influenced deeply by Steve Reich. Finally, what do you know about opera? It would help you understand some of Bowie's songs better.
Sorry I meant Bowie wanted to do a musical based on 1984 back in the 70's. And my earlier comment about classical performance - Bowie does not need to be concerned about putting on a major show. With his heart condition and age, he can still perform but not the huge productions he did just 15 or 25 years ago. Yet he has the music to create some wonderful operettas, a musical or song cycles for younger performers.
@alphabet661 what he should do, because of his condition, age, and family, he should do at least one more studio album, maybe a double album, officially release "Toy", and do a farewell tour, worldwide, maybe small scale in production and all that, just do a normal show, and tape a show or two, maybe for a live album? That could be too much, but if a very influential music figure that is loved by millions, who is growing older, should go out with a big bang.
Finally, Bowie wanted to do a music way back in the 70's and with hsi stature now he could easily do that or a one act opera which could be a combo of alt rock-contemporary classical. It would make sense because if you think about it some of his albums are basically one act operettas. The song Sweet Thing-Candidate-Sweet Thing is far closer to the da capo arai you find in opera. The set - Diamond Dogs-SweetTHing/Candidate/Sweet Thing- Rebel Rebel is in itself an opera scena.
Actgually Mr. Bowie has a ton of of music in him but look I think he mayu just go into the classical genre. He put together the Scorcchio Quintet for a classical composer - Thome is his last name and this classical composer worked with Zappa who was one of the most successful at bridging alternative rock to classical. Bowie could easily go into classical music - in a way less taxing as it has characteristic of a songwriter - you have others perform your work and no need for theatre pieces.
What the Hell is happening! Why on earth haven't I heard this before. Thought I've had enough of Bowie. But this shit is really sweet! Maybe I should start to love Robert Jones again! :-)
@jonnivvvvvvvvvvvv As much as I LOVE Bowie and have for many years I'd be inclined to agree with you on this one. I wish he'd put just one more kickass album out but I think his original work is done and he's quite retired. If he does do anything live I can't see it being a tour, I would think it would be a 3 - 4 date special showing telecast or something like that. JMO anyway. Peace!
I was happy to see one of my first and one of your last performances Mr. Bowie. And you played Uncle Floyd underneath the stars in the northern city. I'll never forget all the great music I hope you will continue to create, but if not I still have plenty of fantastic memories, records, and videos to inspire me into the future!

@SuperDiamondsDogs
Hmm..why IS Elmo on this?? Erm, well, only connection I can think of is that Elmo's a red toy. This is Toy, and it's all red.
..I really have no other idea.
