  • Cool, I need to start doing this!

  • I enjoyed your video very much. I was thinking about buying the RL550B. I am a first time re loader, and will be reloading .38 Sp and .357. My only issue with this system is that you have to buy all new dies to do .357...or so this is my understanding. Thanks.

  • so... how much are 38's if you bought a 100 round pack from the store compared to if you reload them... just curious of how much you actually save... 45s are expensive and im looking for a alternative... thnx

  • @skywayghost929 maybe 6-11 cents per round depending on various factors. Compare that to like $16 per box of 50. Yes, you save a lot.

  • Heh. Hot load.

  • Is this a hot load for a 38 special, or more of a medium power load?

  • I do not see the two return springs on the powder measure charge bar. Item 548 Powder Bar Spring.

  • Excellent video, thanks for posting. I have a guestion about reloading the 45 ACP, that has been keeping me from buying a rotary press. The 45 ACP head spaces with the case lenght. Normaly the case is checked for the proper lenght after case sizing to ensure that the cases are not too long. With a rotary press do you check and trim the cases before starting to reload and hope that they don't get longer in the sizing station? Your response will be greatly appreciated. regards Ed

  • first of all is it worth it? i know 5.56 or .223 can get pricey overtime, also is it expensive to buy the tools to reload, and to reload 100 bullets in comparison to buy 100 bullets, how much is saved?

  • so this is basicaly making your own bullets?

  • Yup. Well... kinda. The "bullet" is the projectile which, in this video, is pre made. You can cast your own bullets (or otherwise manufacture depending on the application), but I am using factory-made jacketed bullets in this video. Home made bullets are usually cast, but you will sometimes see people turning out the more expensive bullets (.50bmg, .408ct, etc...) on a CNC lathe (usually out of brass).

  • Your "Tag" is more than a little, misleading !

  • @MaineShag55 not really

  • @AMWJesseJames :

Are you: "Jus' ah Deick" ?

  • Thanks a lot for posting

  • Call me lazy as i could prob just google and add, but about what is the initial investment for a setup like this?

  • Cool video!!! Where you buy the bullet?? Do you get it online? Web??? Thanks

  • I personally have never had a tray of primers where they were not oriented all in one direction ever.. I only buy WSP or WLR though although I doubt that matters.

  • @YamahaWR200 ya these were CCI primers. CCI primers are hard to come by these days so I also purchase winchester primers.

  • i live in wisconsin to. where did you get the reloader.

  • Respond to this video...

  • @PorterhouseV respond what exactly?

  • @PorterhouseV whats the name of this reloader? will this reloader work an any round?

  • @mikethenascarfan It's a dillon 550, and it will work with every round as long as you buy the correct dies. Although I'm not sure if they dies get big enough to reload very large caliber rounds such as the .50 BMG. Dillon is a very well known manufacturer of reloaders and dies, and they have a very good reputation for quality and customer service. So if you're looking to reload, they're a good choice.

  • @Wilson1592 thankyou for the response bud

  • Will this work with any brand die set?

  • @spritrocks Any die which matches 7/8x14tpi will work (pretty much the defacto-standard for die threading). Note that .50BMG dies will NOT work in this machine. They are 1-1/2x12tpi (massive).

  • You need the Benny Hill theme song playing on the fast motion bits

  • Is that a Yeager's bag I see in the background?

  • @rdubrey it is!

  • @rdubrey - What is Yeager's? Where are they located and what is so "cool" about them? LOL

  • @GabrielKraus THere is this invention called google..... GOOGLE IT.

  • I need to get me one of those. Ammo are getting expensive these days

  • Just an idea, when using CCI primers you can pick up the primers directly from the CCI tray using the pickup tube.

  • Most of the time I save about 50%

  • So, I have been thinking about reloading for about 10 years. Always sort of "scared" me. You have made this look very "doable" to me. I think I will pursue this further. Thanks so much!!

  • Where to get that tool??? The link to it i mean...

  • Why don't everyone asking about reloading recipes just look online, or buy a reloading manual?

  • how much cheaper is it to reload than buy? as in a box of 40 cal s and w cost me 17 to 20 dollars for 50, how much would it cost to reload 50,

  • @justinRkeaton Here In Ontario, Canada it will cost roughly 23 dollars for a box of 50 winchester or federal .40 S&W bullets and about 19 dollars for the store-bought reloads. And I've been working out the cost to make my own... I can do it for approx 9 dollars for 50 rds and thats using good 180 grain FMJ bullets, remington primers and bullseye powder.

    Cheers :)

  • @mikstaa27 nice sounds good thanks!

  • HOW MUCH DID THE MACHINE COST OTD?

  • ok i need to know if my charge of 6.8 grns of bullseye is ok for a 135 fmj bullet . 40 S&W .. that and what might be the min. charge so i dont get it stuck in the barrel . if anyone can help please do thanks .. also my auto disc " lee " powder charge says .71 but it always puts out less. " like my girlfriend " thanks again.

  • @mjmoto72 Buy a reloading book. They are about 20 bucks and well worth it. They have all the different rounds and powders listed. U can then know exactly how to make light rounds or plus p's. Always weigh your power so u can know exactly how many grains u have. U don't want to blow up ur gun or ur self. 6.8 grns sounds heavy. I load bullseye 45, 230 grain round nose with 4.5 grns to 4.9

  • hi,good day,i just want to ask how much is the basic equipment for the reloader, thanks

  • Porterhouse,

I'm new at this and catching up on my reading, does any of bullet explode due to wrong reload. Thank you and keep up the good work.

  • Thanks you make it look easy :)

  • You need to learn to use the flip tray. Put the primers on the ribbed half of the flip tray, slide the flip tray in circles, and viola, all of your primers are magically anvil up (hence the ribs on that side). THEN flip it over and all primers are cup side up and you can load the entire pickup tube. Takes literally seconds to shake them all right side up. Dillon designed it to be easy so you wouldn't have to monkey with it.

  • where are you finding primers that fucking cheap ?

  • Whoa! O.o u go fast!!! lol

  • anyone know where i might buy a cheap starting kit for reloading .. im looking for a progressive one,used.. thanks..

  • wow, i wish i could work as fast as you were

  • can this reload other rounds?

  • just a tip about losing the pin for the primer tube: Hobby stores have them. They use the same kind to hold the bodies on r/c cars. :)

  • Damn,... the dillan doesnt cycle the casings to the next station automatically? Thats a huge turnoff for me,... the lee pro 100 does it. Plus there no pick up tube for the primers.

  • @cvrivcharles

No, that's part of the beauty of a 550. use a full progressive and have something not go right and try to back it up to the previous stage to fix the problem and you'll understand......go do some research. an overwhelming number of people who have used both, prefer the 550 for this reason. And, unless you have an automatic case feeder on the 650, it really isn't any faster than the 550. education=PRICELESS!!

  • pickup pickup, everybody pickup!

  • What model reloading machine is this and would you recommend it? Thanks

  • @mattamiller Dillon 550B and I love mine! Probably Dillon's biggest selling press.

  • He isn't using the flip tray correctly. The tray is used to orient the primers in the correct direction. You put the primers in the tray and shake the tray from side to side, this will automatically flip all the primers in the same direction

  • @mansonjolly I was just thinking the same thing..Take you cardboard primer box and slowly open it upside down so it dumps onto the ribbed side of the flip tray..then you slide the tray back and fourth..this puts them anvil side up..then stick on the smooth side of the tray..flip and pick up..Never wondered what the ribs were there for? Hey good vid though..

  • @MrChondro That is exactly how it should be done, my Dillon 650 came with an instruction video and they did it by sliding the tray back and fourth, that is what the ribs are for. Other than that I enjoyed the video

  • do you ever have any shells that dont fire off ?

  • @zachdougherty10 not as of yet.

  • The Dillon Progressive Reloader is the greatest tool! I still enjoy the best of both worlds with the cache of green plastic RCBS die boxes in the cabinet! We cast bullets from recycled wheel weights, any ideas on where to get bar solder to make the perfect mixture?

  • Nice Job! I'm curious about you saying: "using your specific powder, etc works best for you." Can you explain what you mean and how you arrived there?

    Much appreciated

  • @1LonePuma different powders will perform differently in different firearms for the same caliber. its a matter of finding the powder that works right for you.

  • What brand and model of reloading tool is that? and how much did it cost you? also are there any other tools that you didn't show in this video that you used like burr removers or brass cleaners? Im really interested in getting into reloading my own ammunition I have hundreds of empty casings but no tools to reload them.

  • I want to move to the cheese land :-)

  • @BrooklynShooter that'd be wisconsin ;)

  • @PorterhouseV THE GREAT STATE OF VERMONT IS NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE FOR IT'S CHEESE! name that movie

  • @Anonymous5211987 thank you for smoking!

  • @PorterhouseV winner winner!

  • What are some of the costs with reloading? I have a .40 and was thinking about it, but not sure I shoot enough to justify spending $550 for a reloader when I can buy my rounds locally for about .30 each already?

  • @fisdu

When I started reloading with a Dillon RL550B three years ago I calculated that shooting 500 rounds a month I would recover all my reloading equipment costs using 9mm in 18 months. I started reloading 357sig instead and I recovered my costs in 9 months. 40 caliber should be somewhere in between. Today factory ammo is much more expensive but reloading components like bullets and gunpowder have also gone up also so I don't know how fast the payback would be.

  • @fisdu not sure with current prices, but i would expect you would be able to reload that round for between maybe 0.09 and 0.18 per.

  • @PorterhouseV not to mention it looks fun, and what more badass then someone who owns a gun and make his own ammo

  • @fisdu plus you dont have to buy the $550, there is all different ones for all dif prices

  • @fisdu It depends if you are filling your old brass or not, but I don't know that you ever "save money", but what savings are achieved in reloading, they are spent in shooting MORE ammo. That's what I am after in the long run anyway!! :-)

  • What's the model of press that you have?

  • damn you pick those up fast

  • Thanks so much for that simple, straight-forward, demonstration.

  • Is there an advancer for the turret? Seems like the only thing missing there.

  • How much was the reloader?

  • Do you know where I can get bullets for .45 long colt?

  • How much would a press like this cost?

Sorry for posting a comment on such an old video.

  • @nbenicewicz new from dillon $557.00 ebay maybe $520.00 or less

  • Comment removed

  • Why would you buy powder in such small volumes? Makes no sense.

  • you know that shaker tryy has ribs for a reason. Pour all yout primers in and shake it back and forth like your sifting for gold and it will flip them all flat side down.

  • Thanks for the cool video. I might try reloading. Looks easy

  • is making bullets easy?

  • @kingsxranch i know you asked this question a while ago but... i just ought a dillon 650 and after i got it all set up i reloaded about 150 .45acp bullets in about 15 to 20 minutes. i am new to this and it was probably the easiest thing i have done. dillons are on the higher price range but they make some of the best machines and their customer service is the best i have come across ever. hope this helped

  • Lol love that creepy stare at the end

  • Wait...the Dillon doesn't auto-index? o.0

  • did you know if you put the primers in the primer tray and shake the tray side-to-side, the primers will all orient themselves in the same direction?

  • how much cheaper is it to reload then buy them?

  • so wait can u load 0mm as well or do u gota change all the dyes lol

  • nice work and i like the clean shop. keep posting.

  • is there a way to sell your own rounds?

  • @jo11111 People dont generally trust other peoples loads due to just not wanting to take a risk

  • does this press work for rifle rounds aswell? have a link to the distributor?

  • do you sell reloaded 30-06-357 and 38 spl ammo

  • how much did that setup run you??

  • what machine

  • wow! great vid and awesome machine! where did you pick that up?

  • Im not a big fan of crimping. Ive been told it can affect accuracy a fair bit. And the seated bullets are still fairly sturdy even without criming so wont have any problems on the way to the range.

  • The flip tray is designed to orient the primers for you so you don't have to flip individual primers by hand. Dump the primers on the side with the ridges, shake it back and forth on the table, and all of the primers will be anvil side up. NOW is when you put the two halves of the tray together and flip. Should be in the instructions with the press. That's the point of the ridges and it saves a lot of time. I shoot USPSA matches weekly and typically preload 7 or 8 tubes before running ammo.

  • Is it necessary to ream or clean where the primer gets inserted?

  • @imagehouse9110 once there is noticeable carbon build up yes, i just use a straight screwdriver end to clean the pocket

  • Great video. Simple and to the point. I am currently shopping for my first reloading kit and doing some research. Thanks for the vid.

  • I am new to loading and found this vid on my initial search of the subject. Great Vid, by the way, but I was wondering if the RL550B can do different sized rounds without buying extra parts or another machine. I want to reload 9mm and .223 rounds for my 92FS and Ar15. Thanks!

  • This is a very good video man. I been wanting to get one for a while now. Do the bullets malfunction alot though after realoding them because something doesn't work right? Do you get alot of duds or jams? Good video man, thanks.

  • @CopsEpisodesOnline

No, your reloads should function as well as factory unless you're doing something wrong. Reloading for an auto takes a bit extra care but is no big deal.

  • @CopsEpisodesOnline As long as you constantly check your grain weight going into the casings you should be fine. Make sure to inspect casings for failures also.

  • Great video, I really like the explanation of everything!

  • do you have lube the spent casings /brass?

  • @snobmxman101 lubing straight walled pistol casings is not required (when using carbide dies). that being said I have been known to apply a VERY LIGHT layer of lube to a set of brass after running it through the tumbler.

  • @PorterhouseV - most turret presses i see, when the ram comes back down it advances the turret, why do you do it by hand, is that how it's built or is your press broken?

  • @likesgunsalot

He is using a Dillon RL550B which does not auto index. The Dillon progressives that do auto index are the RL650, the Super 1050 B and the Square Deal B.

  • @likesgunsalot this press is a manual indexing press. and no, it doesnt bother me. flicking the little star with my thumb takes less time than reaching for and installing a new shell.

  • hey what kind of reloder is that and how huch does it cost thanks!!

  • Dillon RL550B

  • good vid.

  • 20 rounds a month? Better just to save your ammo. Progressive presses are really tailored for handgun ammo. Shooting semi auto handguns will take nearly 20 rds in just one magazine.

  • Thanks for the informative video.

  • The flip tray has two sides. One side has a phonographic finish, the oposite side is smooth. If you place the primers on the side with the phonographic finish and shake the tray, all of the primers will end up with the anvil side up. Now place the cover on the tray, flip the tray over and all of the primers are ready to pick up.

  • Thanks for the concise video. Are there basic books or reloading "bibles" for the beginner?

  • @MetalTeamster

If everyone in the USA was armed, there would be much less gun violence.

Just take a look at switzerland, they are the most armed per capita.

  • "Switzerland is a country that does not have ghettos full of criminal minded minorities and mentally ill people like the USA does"

Exactly why we cant have socialized health insurance.

As for south africa being the highest in gun murders, look at the guns per capita.

US cities with the most gun control laws have the highest murder rates.

Hitler was a fervent supporter of gun control, as are all tyrannical governments.

  • @Gen3Benz Switzerland has shitty parts too and just as high percentage of criminal retards as anywhere else. dont fool yourself. you are right about the gun laws though. tougher laws increase crime.

  • Comment removed

  • @Gen3Benz If it was legal to hunt democrats, republicans, socialist and communist we would have much less crime. These groups are despotic and have a tendency to steal the peoples tax money for B.S.

Left to thier neiborhoods they steal anything not nailed down.

  • I'm not saying give criminals guns, but imagine if everyone in the 7-eleven had a gun that was held up by a minority or mentally ill person.

There would be less trials and more executions.

  • @Gen3Benz That would be good, less crime. I dont care if your black, white green or purple, Dumb as a rock or Einstein smart if you mean harm to me i will defend myself. who cares if someone gets a trial. they can hold me at gunpoint or knive point they can die. it does not matter what you are. OH its RACIST to shoot a black with a cheap ass 9mm holding me up. Ohhh im a bad person for shooting a retard with a Mechete. PEOPLE KILL PEOLPLE. i carry. rather be a gun owner than victim.

  • @Gen3Benz

Sorry to burst your bubble but it looks like America has the highest followed by Yemen and then the Swiss. This is guns per 100 residents, though if divided by 100 it should be per capita. In which case America is 0.9, Yemen is 0.61 and Switzerland is 0.46. en(dot)wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_gun_ownership

  • @O1Chris02

Yeah, i read that in a reuters story also.

It put finland at number 3 with 56 and swiss at 4th with 46

But i think they just count the guns and divide by people, in my opinion not very accurate.

Everyone of my friends that own a gun have more than one.

The swiss have every male citizen is in the militia from 20-30 years old, everyone of them with a gun at home.

Just look at the swiss crime rates.

  • @Gen3Benz Agreed. Mexico has extremely strict gun laws and they are rampant with criminals, drug gangs, etc.

  • @MetalTeamster

Although some claim the US to be top per capita.

Claiming as high as 90 per 100 in one case.

They must not take into account that every male from 18-55 years old has mandatory military service.

Meaning that 85% of the males in the entire country has a Sig waiting for a burglar.

  • so how much more accurate are reloaded cartridges? and what is the cost advantage after buying all the equipment and all? does it pay itself off quickly?

  • i think i can reload a 500 mag round at the cost of $1.35 per round versus $2-4. but you also get the premium quality at a cheaper price then the cheap ammo. 9mm ammo were you buy the brass cannot be done cheap, but if you have the brass. 100 bullets cost me last time $11.00, were the cost for factory has gone up and and the 100 round winchester packs cost around $15-$20 now. 50 bmg i can reload at about $3 per round vs $6 for loaded ammo. if you burn though alot of ammo its worth it.

  • kk sweet thanks for the info, so if you shoot... say 20 rounds in a month it would take a good few years to pay its self off right?

  • Yes

  • Comment removed

  • From experience using both types of presses you do not load better ammo with a single stage press. Say what you like but when you buy a progressive press that old single stage will end up on the shelf.

  • @copyrman08 sorry. I double posted. What I was trying to say is that any press will allow you to load better ammo than off the shelf factory loads, provided you use good components and technique. Of course, you can always buy extremely expensive factory loads that are of high quality.

  • BigAgitator you are absolutely correct. Handloads

in my opinion are always more accurate. With handloading many things can be done to improve accuracy that you do not get with factory ammo. Now days even factory ammo is quite accurate but a person can not afford it.

  • @copyrman08 I quite agree. The prices of factory ammo (i'm always shopping for 300 win mag and 44 magnum) has been soaring! I've purchased and fired enough ammo that I have a good inventory of 44 mag cases to reload (250). I was pleased with the cheap winchester ammo. It was more accurate than I expected- as shown in my "44 mag @ 100 yards" video.

  • I am also partial to the 44mag. I bought a Ruger

S.Blackhawk Hunter last year. I am going to reload the 240 gr. jacketed bullets. Can you tell

me what powder load you are using. And what

    works best in the 44.

  • @triplewhiper If you buy a single stage press for under $100, it'll pay for itself quicker- it will just take more time to do the work than his press. you'll get better ammo than factory.

  • is a multi stage press lesser in accuracy than a single stage for precision amunition?

  • @triplewhiper Some have said/claimed that an expensive single stage press is more precise than an inexpensive progressive press. I don't know if i believe that or not. I would trust a good progressive just as much as single stage.

  • ya the only way in which a single stage would be more accurate is in the way that it would be easier to make percisly due to its simplicity to manufacture would it not?

  • LOL! I can reload for 50% of the cost of buying it off the shelves!

    1000 cases of 9mm Luger = $43 - delivered

    1000 9mm 115 gr FMJ = $68 - delivered

    1000 CCI small pistol primers = $28 - locally

    3/4 lb Accurate Powder (2000 9 mm rounds) = $15 _Locally

    1000 completed reloaded rounds = $154

That comes to $0.15 each or $75 for a box of 500 rounds.

Comparing apples to apples, Cabela's sells 500 rounds of Magtech 9mm, luger 115 gr, FMJ for $160, which equals $0.32 each. Shop around!

  • sweet i got to get into this and save on amo and not worry about shortages

  • Comment removed

  • I just wanted to say "Thank You" for a very good instructional video......... You did not say what kind of reloading equipment you were using and it really seems pretty simple and easy to use. Please let me know what brand of re-loader you have, Thanks Steve (Texas)

  • @Gwrider99 RL550B

  • well as long as you don't have the gun, i guess kids can't hurt themselves with the ammo...

  • Why? I dont understand what in this video should be banned.

  • He's yet another fool speaking from an irrational position of fear and misconceptions, probably.

  • Why are you looking at this then douchebag? You are really sick in the head to be looking at something you despise so much... I suppose you "despise" childporn as well...

  • Thousands of people are killed each year in car crashes. People who are obsessed with cars to the point where they spend hour upon hour modifying their cars for more speed, are sick in the head. This modification activity should be banned, this is craziness.

Seriously? It's a hobby for law-abiding citizens. Do you really think that the average thug loads his own ammo? If so, you're deluded. Even so, do you really think outlawing this would make criminals less likely to partake?

  • the only one sick in the head is you. you have a severe case of PMS and i don't know if midol will help. you should seek more professional help. more people are killed by cars and trucks each year then guns. perhaps your industry should be shut down and all those "sick in the head" truck drivers should be retrained to pick flowers after all.....an 80,000 pound missile at 75mph is extremely dangerous and reaps huge devastation not only on human life but on the entire planet! get a clue

  • i just found a pms loader push on the handle a midol drops and tampon is inserted but check the level of pissnes and adjust grams of midol take her out and see how she does

  • @MetalTeamster Actually most people who reload are looking to increase the accuracy of their weapon. Or theyre trying to lower the cost of shooting. Id rather spend a night at my loading bench than watching the tube.
