  • one thing I hate about Back & Forth is the amount they played down the significance of Sunny Day Real Estate and Nate's involvment, that really pissed me off... they portrayed them as some local seattle band that weren't that great.

  • ok anyone who hasn't watched back and forth this song is actually about an old ex girlfriend of dave's it's not about kurt or taylor but he does admit that when he plays or hear's the song he can't help but think back to past mistakes he's made were he's been in the same situation such as kurts death and when he invited krist to play bass on this i think this was his way of saying sorry for his past mistakes and saying 'I Should have known' and done something about it when he had the chance

  • anyone watched back and fourth?

  • I don't he's singing about Kurt, I think it's about Taylor.

  • yea thats right you should have known !

  • i fuckin love novoselic

he was my inspiration when i started playing bass

  • @DrRockdapuss I should *have* known, dipshit.

  • @amylub38 thx for saying what i thought :p

  • fucking hell guys he said in his biography that it was about jimmy swanson

  • Ahh, I get it now. He's singing about Kurt Kobain.

  • I'm really suprised that no one has said any thing about the dislike bar

  • Can Anyone please tell me what he used for this recording? I know it was done in Dave's garage. But I really enjoy the way this song is recorded. So epic and raw. any details would help, I wanna try it with the band.

  • @MrBrandonBryson Analog tape.

  • @MrBrandonBryson The whole album was done on analog tape, actually.

  • "NO I CAN NOT FORGIVE YOU YET!!" ..all said.

  • Epic !

  • This has been stuck in my head all day. It's so haunting.

  • so beautiful....

  • sounds so unique with out regular digital recording

  • @samskate777 lol as if you can tell the difference, I bet you watched the documentary and thought well if the Foos like analogue I should to. I mean i'm a bit of an audiophile and I can even say there aren't exceptional differences between analogue and digital anymore.

  • Remembering Cobain......

  • Best song on the whole album!!!!

  • Thats baby making music right there

  • @jakobhunterv13 how the FUCK could you fuck to this song?! are you sick!

  • @fede018 his voice just impregnates you....

  • @jakobhunterv13 have you head the lyrics? is like saying you would like to play a Funkadelic song in a funeral

  • @fede018 see it is not the lyrics that impregnate someone (though they are amazing, and show a really deep emotional side to dave grohl) it is merely the sound of daves voice and the instruments behind that create a baby

  • This song is very Nirvana. That's a great thing.

  • I heard that he said it's about his friend Jimmy Swanson who od'd but as he was writing it he felt that it fit with how he felt about Kurt which is the whole reason he brought Krist in (who broke down in tears after they finished this song btw, no worries, Dave gave him a hug). No matter who it's about, it kicks ass.

  • Listening to songs from this album live, Im kinda split on which is better: the album version or live D":

  • The songs about Kurt Cobain, Dave said it was in an interview for "Back and Forth" great doc btw, for any Foo Fighters fan you should watch it. Amazing song, this is defiantly my favorite FF album so far

  • im in love with this song

  • wwwgreatbuyoutletscom wwwtopfuelsavercom the rush of water was like a song, an elegy, the voice of the still, wet woods, and the smell of the water was almost quenchingly fresh. He kept his eyes upon the waterfall. The clear stream, like a luminous column amongst the moss and the stones, held its noble outline unaltered through all the hours of day and night. In the midst of it there was a small projecting cascade, where the tumbling water struck a rock. That, too, stood out immutable,

  • at 2:53 Krist agrees with Dave

  • Hands down the best song on the best album the Foos have ever recorded.

  • amazing

  • 2.52 that bass *.*

  • Comment removed

  • Krist plays a sick bass. I can't get over it.

  • @maimay234 fuckin epic

  • Great song, but does anyone notice how it kinda sounds like "Aint it fun" by the Dead Boys?

  • I believe this is the best album because It was natural and They done it with butch vig and krist novoselc and it was recordered in dave's garage.

  • chills

  • I should have known This song was so fucking awesome

  • tis is why i have a foo tattoo!!!!! xD

  • gosh he puts lots of emotion into this song :)

  • anyone else agree this sounds like its about kurt?

  • @yayIsSi Because it is....

  • @EvilDaveInc you obviously have not seen the back and forth document because it says in the document it is NOT ABOUT KURT! it is about moments in Dave's life he felt he should of known.

  • @Timelrie See and I always thought it was about Kurt. Then again I have yet to see the last half hour of Back and Forth.

  • @Timelrie Don't believe everything you see and hear on a doco like that. If you were a really famous band writing a private song about an important friend of yours how would you keep it private? I'm pretty sure they say that just to keep the "was that song about Kurt Cobain?" questions away from them during media interviews.

Awesome, powerful song though. Love it.

  • @yayIsSi behind the scenes vid says started out about a girl, but everyone feels the kurt vibe from it. so it might be a little of both.

  • @yayIsSi it is

  • @carsonC1000 no it's not watch back and forth

  • @Timelrie i saw it

  • @carsonC1000 well he says in the video it was about a woman and all the times in his life in his life he should of known he doesn't mention this song being about kurt at all

  • @yayIsSi close but its actually about jimmy swanson, a close freind of daves who died from a drug overdose i think

  • Obviosly everybody think that it's about kurt and nirvana, It's even mentioned in the movie back and forth, I do too, but I think maybe it's about his ex-wife, I don't know

  • I like to think this song is about Kurt. Dave still can't forgive him for committing suicide. ("I cannot forgive you yet")

  • This song is sort of like a Nirvana reunion because Dave, Pat, and Krist played on it

  • Fucking best piece of music in this motherfucking century

  • Awesome bass of Krist Novoselic. Anybody who knows which gear he's using in this song..?

  • 4:16 left my heart in dept

  • Nirvana is alive and well in 2:53 T___T

  • i just cant get enough of the badass sound of krists bass! :D

  • no words.

  • I really hope Foo Fighters play at Reading 2012

  • Fucking awesome bassplay by Krist Novoselic ladies and gentlemen!!!

  • Fucking best legendary masterpiece of awesome music in this fucking century who consist of fucking Bieber, Lady GaGa and fucking Rebecca Black.

  • @elvispiss you put bieber and rebecca black in the same category with Lady Gaga?! :|

  • DAT BASS. .u.

  • awesome rock on!

  • 2.17 for Chris Martin from Coldplay.

  • kurt is dead whe cant help it but sadly say RIP kurt doesnt bring him back so why dont we love them(L)

  • this is the one wi Krist playing in ??

  • @mrbassman25 sure is :D

  • REPEAT.

  • Em pensar que este baixo é o mesmo do Nirvana, o vocal foi a bateria e a música realmente remete ao Kurt!!! eu choro cara, eu choro!

  • people have lost all interest in the soul, meaning and beauty of music.

  • why do people argue about nirvana and foo fighters, because after all there wouldnt be foo fighters without nirvana and Kurt tought Dave alot about about songwriting. R.I.P. Kurt Cobain

  • i just watched foo fighters back and forth, it was just awesome :)

  • @massmayemproductions bought and watched it today..totally agree ..its fucking awesome! Greets from Austria :) the FOOS rock :)

  • I dont wanna be one of those dicks that make a comment about the people who dislike but seriously what the fuck is there problem with this song? Its a passionate tribute song from one friend to another that just so happens is fucking awesome to listen to. Seriously i loose faith in humanity sometimes when you have these dicks that dislike something for the hell of it!

  • Foo Fighters is just one of the best rock band ever

  • Maybe you was right,

    Didn't wanna fight,

    I should have known,

    Couldn't read the signs,

    Couldn't see the light,

    I should have known,

So beautiful, one of the best song of the album!

  • dat grunge bass tone

  • Its good to have Krist back

    R.I.P. Kurt :'(

  • Lol and to think they recorded this in daves garage

  • Fuck what it sounds like..

This song just like FF is FUCKING AWESOME !!!!!!!

  • Krist even though a lawyer still plays a mean bass. Dave sounds great in this. I appreciate the fighters, Dave found a great stable thing in finding his band. It sounds a bit nirvana but remember this is Foo Fighters not Nirvana. (:

  • @GiriahGozRawr watch 'Back and Forth' then say his band was stable.

  • @GiriahGozRawr Krist isn't a lawyer yet, he's still going to school for it. The only reason i felt compelled to tell you is because he goes to the Community College right by my house. Ha.

  • @matto902 WTF? I have seen two interviews and read numerous articles on him. This all astounds me. LMAOx thanks. Hahah I must find the interview for you. I feel slighly stupid for stating that now...Are you sure?

  • @GiriahGozRawr He's a politician, isn't he? Even then, lawyers can still play instruments. Amazing, huh?

  • @kdcvideosinc I know that doesn't mean it sounds like nirvana. It sounds like foo fighters

  • I like nirvana but why are you talking about kurt cobain and nirvana ITS FOO FIGHTERS

  • Underrated song. Clearly.

  • Krist Novoselic played the bass in this song, maybe that's why it sounds so 'Nirvana'.

  • you do realize that every member of nirvana, including dave, were fans of the beatles, dont you? they are nothing like lady gaga shit, they made music with their friends and instruments, not with a damn computer. and another thing, why hate on the beatles? they were good. like your any better. and everyone i know likes the beatles. they were not shit and never will be known as shit.

  • i should have known foo fighters first.....

  • sounds way more like Beatles then Nirvana to me. Guitar/ violin parts of this song remind me of a less dark "She's so Heavy."

  • @UrbanRadiation Beatles are shit, fuck off!

  • @PozzasHotSeat The Beatles are so shitty they just happen to be the best selling band in History, guess that means nothing... Maybe you should just stick to Rihanna.

  • @UrbanRadiation You don't know anything, Beatles are technically the Lady Gaga of the 70's, they did not create good music, they were popular because they mainly had women fans and they were like the only band on TV back then. Don't you dare compare Nirvana to Beatles, you should be ashamed! I also do not listen to Rihanna; I listen to Iron Maiden, Rise Against, QOTSA, TCV, Zeppelin and Deep Purple, so sit the fuck down!

  • @PozzasHotSeat The Beats where a band of the 60's not the 70's so ur first point is invalid, and by sayin that they had women fans and where on TV is beside the point. That would put Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks & The Beach Boys all in that category. All the bands you listed would be nothin, without the bands i listed. Surly the Foos are inspired by the Beats, Dave has played with Paul McCartney on a few occasions. Maybe next time study the music history before running ur mouth.

  • @PozzasHotSeat How can you not like beatles they are one of the greatest bands ever after nirvana and foo fighters.

  • @TheSuperFootos cuz not every one likes the same thing? Music taste is a matter of opinion and i dont like the beatles at all!

  • @PozzasHotSeat Dude Cobain was a HUGE beatles fan thats why melody was so important in his songwriting, Butch Vig got him to double track his vocals on In Bloom by saying "John Lennon double tracked his vocals on beatles songs". You are gravely mistaken and misinformed if you think the beatles didnt create good music or have an influence musically on everyone. In the 60's they opened the door for Pop/RnB/rock bands to be popular in the mainstream like Nirvana did with Punk/Grunge/alt rock. Moron

  • @PozzasHotSeat you are an ignorant clown. the beatles didn't create good music? i suggest you listen to revolver, the white album, rubber soul, abbey road, etc, and shut the fuck up. he should be ashamed for comparing nirvana to the beatles? you mean that same beatles which were on of kurt cobain's very biggest influences and a band he listened to his whole life? not only are they the most commercially successful rock band EVER, but the most influential and acclaimed too. GTFO

  • @PozzasHotSeat All those bands you listed wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for The Beatles. So you sit the fuck down and shut the hell up you little bitch!!

  • @PozzasHotSeat i'm not done with you either, runt. paul mccartney is krist's noveslic's biggest influence on bass and ringo was a big inspiration to dave's drumming. i pity musically inept jerkoffs such as your stupid self.

  • Does anyone even know that this song is about Taylor? It was written after the od that Taylor had in germany and he was at his bedside for days before he woke up. It's not about Kurt.

  • @habitant71 I believe it's about both of them in a way. (and it wasn't written like 'right' after Taylor woke up it was written a fair time after)

  • @habitant71

You should watch the Foo Fighters documentary 'Back & Forth'. It's really good and they give the background stories for most of the songs on this album as well as the general history of the Foos.

  • Beautiful.

  • Dave & Krist together again! Excellent job these 2 did with the song!

  • krist is fabulous man

  • there is so much passion in this song

  • There is not a single weak track on this album. What else do you expect from Foo Fighters? :D

  • I love the bass part where Krist played

  • I read that this is actually about taylors overdose

  • @SuperMojoRisin

At the concert in St.Louis saturday night, Dave said during the intro "this is for my friend, Kurt"

  • @24elijahR I was there too! That show was epic in it's epicness...

  • just in case you forgot, because i didnt!

  • NOT EVERY FOO SONG IS ABOUT KURT.

  • @t3hjak3 right only this one

  • @cordfluidnevoie Nope.

  • @t3hjak3 AND NOT EVERY FOO SONG FEATURES EVERY ALIVE NIRVANA MEMBER

  • if you guys watched the documentary or couldn't he said it was about someone in his life he cant forgive (obviously). But a few band members think it is about kurt but thats their personal opinion. Dave said this so you can have your own opinion on the song wether you think it is kurt or someone else. . .

  • Dave Said It Was About A Girl He Was Involved With Before...And He Said It Was About How At The End Of The Day..He Should of Known That 'That' Was Gonna Happen

  • This song is about kurt cobain no?

  • @card144 The song wasn't origionaly written about Kurt

  • dave shouldt blame himself for kurt

  • My favorite off the album. This has to be one of the best songs theyve ever made.

  • Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are the last hope of rock n roll

  • @mhl026 Do NOT say that!!!

  • @xBenjaxGuitar sad but true

  • @mhl026 that's utter bollocks

  • @mhl026 you forgot about red hot chili peppers mate...

  • This song conveys so many intense feelings... damn you Grohl!

  • Sorry but Krist Novoselic on Bass stole the show for me.

  • I can't Stop Listening ti this! I've just click the repeat button for the 14th time!

  • @bachir1992

If it's easier, type "repeat" in between "youtube" and ".com" in the URL bar when watching this video (or any video for that matter), then hit enter. The page that loads will offer this video (or others) and will automatically repeat forever.

  • @TayRodney Thanks man!

  • R.I.P Kurt Cobain

  • @crashbreakerr

Yep, every Foo Fighters video has to, HAS TO, talk about Kurt Cobain.

  • @darthmoop this song in special, because Dave made this to Kurt Cobain, and Krist Novoselic is who played the bassline. It's a homage.

  • @crashbreakerr

Oh well thank you, sorry to misunderstand. I knew Krist did the bass, but I didn't know it was a homage to Kurt. Thanks for the info ;)

  • @darthmoop its not a homage to kurt have none of you seen there doco? its justabout moments in daves life where he thought "man i should have known" and krist only did part of the bass not the whole song.

  • In my opinion, this is the most beautiful song they ever had.

  • How many people actually knew Krist from Nirvana played in this song?

  • @fancybrit93 Well, I know :)
