  • This is blowing my mind! It's fascinating! I may take this up...!

  • Have used a slicker (dog) brush to "flick" open locks but not to card, although two of the larger ones might work - the teeth are shaped differently than a carder. You can simply finger pick the fiber and spin it from the "fluff" - - I do that a lot altho I use my big triple pick to open the fiber and then spin it by the handfull. this gives me a textured yarn which I love. I also try to spin it quite softly. You can send fiber to be carded (Ohio Valley is VERY good) but that is expensive.

  • I am so allergic that just seeing the dog hair helps my teeth feel like they're about to fall out. Too funny, especially when I want a dog so badly.

  • Most of the dog hair I get is from friends and they show their dogs so it's very clean. If you need to wash it do it like wool, soak it in a bowl of hot water, rinse several times and lay out to dry. DO NOT rub, ring, twist or scrub - it will felt. I did a video on washing wool. If it's not really dirty you can wash it after spinning. I always wash yarn after it's spun anyway. Dog down doen't have lanolin/grease so that isn't an issue. I use Palmolive or Dawn liquid dish soap. Good luck

  • this is good to see cause i have acess to binfulls of dog fur. how do you wash it if its dirty? or wash after its spun?

  • are the fibers from a long haired or short haired dog?

I just got a long haired chihuahua and want to start spinning her hair when she's a little bit bigger, she's still a puppy.

  • @AnnieNM06 that would be so neat! You could make her a dog sweater from her own hair. :)
