Wow, a plastic product labeled as 'green'. Why do you people find it so important to lie to everybody. Homes today have two air barriers in each wall, WTF kind of idiot can stand there with confidence telling people they need a third for a tight envelope!? How bout just not fuck up the first two? How do you bring the required fresh air in? Just leave all the windows cracked? LOL Super tight homes suck, if you have ever owned one you will know why, and will use windows more than you ever have.
I understand that this material is nowhere to be used in houses built of brick? Especially, it will be effective where you can not use roll insulation.
It really cracks me up when they use this stuff in a hot climate. So much mis-information in this business it is mind blowing. Here is an interesting number for those using this in a mostly cooling(a/c) climate.............60% of the heat your a/c takes out of the air, can come from w/in the house.......(lighting, appliances, body heat, showers) 22% comes from radiation(not stopped by foam) 82% of the heat gained in your foam house, would have been gained just the same w/out it.
Cmon people.....stop being so easily sold. Over 30 years of spray foams, and they still have less than 5% of the insulation market, it is not a "new" cool product. The only people putting this crap in houses are DIY, or 1 home a year rookie wanna be builders, that saw it at a home show. There is no truth whatsoever about foam reducing tonnage, look up a 60 day free trial of REMrate software, used to rate homes for energy star. It will prove you pay more for and inferior product w/foam PROOF!
We only need to wear the suit while we are applying the product cause it is in a wet form so there is overspray. The added airspace in the attic doesn't change anything. This is proven by the fact that once a house is Foamed, the required tonnage of your air conditioner or heater is reduced. The metal frame is usually used on interier walls so that isn't a problem while the outside walls are usually block or wood . Even with metal frame on the outside walls, you still have the air barrier.
@turbo0157rak Where did you find this "proven fact" I am and hvac contractor, and when you calculate conditioned space, total envelope, air infiltration rates, and ect. FOAM REQUIRES MORE TONNAGE. You do realize most homes built today are right near the ASHRAE standard of .35 ACH already, and by making them tighter, you are only putting the occupants at a health risk. Your hvac guy lied. How do you think your attic is 80 on a 105 degree day? Are you dumb enough to not realize your cooling it?
you sound like my poor daddy. my poor daddy lives 300 feet away in a house 5 x less the volume of my house. i used this stuff. my electric bill is the same as poor daddy's. poor daddy's electric bill is 250 a month so i save 1000 a month. that's 12000 dollars a year that's 120000 in ten years. was it worth it ?
@d1incharge It's not a hazmat suit douche. We wear the suit and mask to keep the overspray off. Even guys who install that loose fill shit you keep endorsing wear respirators. Fuck-heads like you are still building houses the same way they were 30 years ago, crying about the good old days. Get with the times man. Fiberglass is a dinosaur.
@wakumgarza If fiberglass were a dinasour, why does it, and has it for over 50 years, kept over 85% of the market? I guess my neighbor with the foam house, higher bills, and worse indoor air quality(tested), should talk to you about why he never saved any money. My neighborhood doesn't have a house smaller than 4500sqft, so its pretty easy to tell when one is inferior. Maybe you should contact the biggest builders in the country like D.R.horton, ask why their calculations show foam loses money?
@wakumgarza This is why insulaters are one of the dumbest individuals on the job site. I would be worried if I were you, I just talked to two different foamers in our area giving it up, they actaully realized what they were doing. Houses too tight, OSB roofing warranty, void. Shingle warranty, void. Half the R-value foaming the attic compared with loose-fills, conditioning the attic. Spray foaming roof deck will get you a failed inspection if using 2009 IRC codes. I could go on.
