KJV is a word for word translation. NIV is not. That is enough said. Don't go messing with God's Word, cutting out words, adding your own, and substituting what you think is proper interpretation into the text.
@pegcage Almost everyone involved in the King James Bible controversy knows or should know that there are archaic and obsolete words in KJV which either puzzle (at best) or mislead (at worst) the common Christian reader. "Prevent" in I Thessalonians 4:15 does not mean what we today always mean by that word, namely, "to stop, hinder." That word as used in 1611 meant "to precede" and the reader back then would not have stumbled over its meaning. The reader today, however, will stumble over it.
@odlebrook Good point. As long as the Truth is proclaimed, it will set people free. When Dr. D. James Kennedy was asked which Bible is the best, he answered "The one that gets read."
@odlebrook I was a NIV person and I believe that the NIV can win souls to the Lord. But I have to side with the KJV crowd due to the omissions I've found in the NIV. (I have both versions). These are vital verses, (not "bread crusts" or outdated verses) that got moved into the margins (the fine print, and people don't read the "fine print" which is why so many people get into legal troubles. My feeling is simply that I PREFER the KJV over the NIV.
@HERETIChelper You're either ignorant, an intentional liar or both. Obviously it's a waste of time talking to you but to others reading this they are invited to go to our website BIBLEQUERY ORG & once on our homepage click on the "Experience" box & scroll down to our newsletter section & click on "Unlearned Men - KJV Only." There is an excerpt in that newsletter from James White's book "New Age Bible Versions Refuted." To get additional info on this go to James' website AOMIN ORG. Riplinger NOT!
The kicker is mr. White....if she were to read a critical greek text....why would Gail support a critical greek text? I don't touch a perverted thing like the niv. You may put down Gail R, but you think that you can compete with Dr. Gipp sir? Peter Ruckman would put you in your rightful place sir!
@mrmark262 Peter Ruckman & Gipp are just two more King James Version idolators, give us a break! Their credibility is just as worthless as Riplinger's. These clowns rip gullible followers off for money just to hawk their worthless "scholarship" concerning their phoney KJV Only "scholarship." For much more on this go to two sources: Doug Kutilek's website - KJVONLY org & Bob Ross' website - PILGRIMPUBLICATIONS com. See our newsletter on KJV Only on our website - BIBLEQUERY org. Get a life!
@DoubleAAmazin2 I hope you're joking but if not you're an idiot (I won't go so far as to say you're the devil because only an idiot would say that). Do you happen to know anything about church history? We have an entire website on early christian church history (HISTORYCART COM). Can you tell me what version of the King James Bible Peter & Paul used? See our video, "EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH HISTORY #3: EARLY CHRISTIANS QUOTED SCRIPTURE WITHOUT A ROMANIST OR KJV BIBLE." See our newsletter on this.
@DoubleAAmazin2 Your response totally misses the point! You said James White was the devil! I declare that you're a liar. Not only that but you give us your unsubstantiated nonsense about the KJV & it's translators being "Israelites" as if that were true. See our 2 hour series, "BIBLE TRANSLATION ISSUE #1 & #2" with Bob Ross & Doug Kutilek (knowledgeable in Greek & Hebrew) where they deal with bogus arguments by people like you. See "The King James Only Resource Center" website: KJVONLY.ORG.
Not that anyone was asking but, my personal view is that The Holy Bible is God's Word regardless of which version you choose. ( With exception to the voice or paraphrased versions ). Some versions may be more accurate but God uses many translations to speak to people.
@electricbouguereau The "666" comment was done quite accidentally & quite extemporaneously. There was no thought of even making this comment until the moment arrived. As you know Texe Marrs had viciously attacked James White as being of the devil while Riplinger's fraudulent book likewise makes phony "lucerifian" slanders & claims. In this atmosphere of "devilish" innuendo brought on by the Riplingerites, the "666" bit of humor popped out. See also our "BIBLE TRANSLATION ISSUE" series on KJV.
..New Age Bible Versions was a book that needed to be written. New version bibles eliminate biblical text, read ..Opposite to a KJV. That alone should be enough reason to reject these corrupted books. Jesus warned us about about scriptural corrupters.
@vachief There is merit in exposing Bible translation corruption & deceit (see our Youtube video, "EXAMINING THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESS 'NEW WORLD TRANSLATION' OF THE BIBLE" or just type "LARRY WESSELS JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES" in the Youtube search box to find it). However, to expose fraud & deceit by USING fraud & deceit as Riplinger has done is bearing false witness & is Biblically sinful (Proverbs 6:19, 12:17, 14:5, etc.). "New Age Bible Versions" did NOT need to be written since it lies constantly.
@CAnswersTV ...Have you ever read her books or you basing your assumptions on what James White has to say? When these new versions say something completely opposite to the KJV you have to wonder who is behind that. James White believes that Protestantism and Catholicism should merge, so does the Pope, many of us say thanks, but no thanks.
@vachief You're committing many errors in your comment. First, you ASSUME that we have not read Riplinger's book which we have (& we've seen her on video as well) & we can definitely testify that she is a fraud whether you care to believe that or not (I tell people Louis Farrakhan is a fraud but Black Muslims still want to believe in him anyway). Next, you need to see our Youtube videos "BIBLE TRANSLATION ISSUE" with Doug Kutilek on the KJV. You're not telling the truth about James White & Rome.
@CAnswersTV Indeed. All of the claims James White made in the video can be substantiated by merely looking at the books and bibles he cites. For example, if one turns to page 677 of Riplinger's book (footnote 128) one can easily observe her very admission that any connection between F.B. Westcott & W.W. Westcott is merely speculation on her part. Yet, during the length of the book she makes no such admission. The sheer number of misquotations and dishonest references should make anyone cringe.
I enjoyed this video immensely! I read the KJV very little and have always been partial to the newer translations. I am not condemning the KJV, but what good is the word of God if you can't understand all of it?
@gimarr Thanks for the great comment! If you'd like to see a couple of other videos we've produced on the "KJV Only" controversy feel free to type in the Youtube search box "The Bible Translation Issue/ Doug Kutilek". This 2 part series covers the origins of where the "KJV Onlyites" came from & the implications of their movement for churches & missions. You can also reference to Doug Kutilek's website, KJVONLY.ORG, which will provide a wealth of additional information on this issue. Blessings.
The biggest problem I have with the KJV is the language barrier. All too often I run across people who do not understand what the words mean. Like the word "score" for 20, or the word "let" meaning to restrain, or the word "wherefore" meaning why. It is hard to talk with people when they do not understand the words as they are used.
Friends, like brother White, I am not anti KJV either. In fact I still read it more than any other translation. I started this comment to recommend my favorite modern translation. I find it to be clearer than even the NIV, and yet coveys the full message I see in the KJV. It is the New Century Version. The NCV. If you have not checked it out, you will be pleasantly surprised by it. It stands above the other translations in my estimation for reading larger portions of the Bible.
@mrloudcry The New Century Version, according to Wikipedia, is "is a revision of the International Children's Bible. The ICB was aimed at young readers and those with low reading skills/limited vocabulary in English. It is written at a 3rd grade level (from the introduction) and is both conservative and evangelical in tone. Concerned about clarity and simplicity of expression, the NCV translates with considerable recourse to paraphrase & is strongly gender-neutral." I've never liked paraphrases.
I was not aware of that. I still like the way it reads. But for all serious bible study, I use the KJV. I have too many memory verses in my mind to start over with another translation for deep bible study. I appreciate your insights. It pays to know the whole truth.
@fre4409 Thanks for the kind comment! This video was produced in either the summer (possibly August) of 1994 or 1995. Some people actually teach that if you read any other version then the KJV, you're going to hell Cn you imagine the damage people like Riplinger are doing to the body of Christ, due to woeful ignorance? @CAnswersTV The KJV is by far the best Bible ever. The newer versions take the power out of the best verses, they simply dont sound as good.
The early Christians were Israelites, men of the Lord, just as were the translators of the KJV....I dunno if we can say that about new Bibles
However, no matter what translation you use, they all say Christ only came for Israel
Matthew 15:24 But he answered them and said I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
