KJV is a word for word translation. NIV is not. That is enough said. Don't go messing with God's Word, cutting out words, adding your own, and substituting what you think is proper interpretation into the text.

@pegcage Almost everyone involved in the King James Bible controversy knows or should know that there are archaic and obsolete words in KJV which either puzzle (at best) or mislead (at worst) the common Christian reader. "Prevent" in I Thessalonians 4:15 does not mean what we today always mean by that word, namely, "to stop, hinder." That word as used in 1611 meant "to precede" and the reader back then would not have stumbled over its meaning. The reader today, however, will stumble over it.

@odlebrook I was a NIV person and I believe that the NIV can win souls to the Lord. But I have to side with the KJV crowd due to the omissions I've found in the NIV. (I have both versions). These are vital verses, (not "bread crusts" or outdated verses) that got moved into the margins (the fine print, and people don't read the "fine print" which is why so many people get into legal troubles. My feeling is simply that I PREFER the KJV over the NIV.

Not that anyone was asking but, my personal view is that The Holy Bible is God's Word regardless of which version you choose. ( With exception to the voice or paraphrased versions ). Some versions may be more accurate but God uses many translations to speak to people.

First, you ASSUME that we have not read Riplinger's book which we have (& we've seen her on video as well) & we can definitely testify that she is a fraud whether you care to believe that or not (I tell people Louis Farrakhan is a fraud but Black Muslims still want to believe in him anyway). @CAnswersTV Indeed. All of the claims James White made in the video can be substantiated by merely looking at the books and bibles he cites. For example, if one turns to page 677 of Riplinger's book (footnote 128) one can easily observe her very admission that any connection between F.B. Westcott & W.W. Westcott is merely speculation on her part. Yet, during the length of the book she makes no such admission. The sheer number of misquotations and dishonest references should make anyone cringe.

The biggest problem I have with the KJV is the language barrier. All too often I run across people who do not understand what the words mean. Like the word "score" for 20, or the word "let" meaning to restrain, or the word "wherefore" meaning why. It is hard to talk with people when they do not understand the words as they are used.

Friends, like brother White, I am not anti KJV either. In fact I still read it more than any other translation. I started this comment to recommend my favorite modern translation. I find it to be clearer than even the NIV, and yet coveys the full message I see in the KJV. It is the New Century Version. The NCV. If you have not checked it out, you will be pleasantly surprised by it. It stands above the other translations in my estimation for reading larger portions of the Bible.

The ICB was aimed at young readers and those with low reading skills/limited vocabulary in English. It is written at a 3rd grade level (from the introduction) and is both conservative and evangelical in tone. Concerned about clarity and simplicity of expression, the NCV translates with considerable recourse to paraphrase & is strongly gender-neutral." I've never liked paraphrases.

I was not aware of that. I still like the way it reads. But for all serious bible study, I use the KJV. I have too many memory verses in my mind to start over with another translation for deep bible study. I appreciate your insights. It pays to know the whole truth.

Some people actually teach that if you read any other version then the KJV, you're going to hell Cn you imagine the damage people like Riplinger are doing to the body of Christ, due to woeful ignorance? The NASB, NIV, ESV, etc are all fine versions. Don't let the KJV Only people put fear into you. James White is a Biblical scholar and he is correct in what he says. When the Pharisee's attributed the work of Christ to Satan, Christ told them they had blasphemed the Holy Spirit. It is a very serious thing to call the Holy Bible and its translations the work of Satan. I spoke to an author of a KJV only book, who out of respect for his identity I will leave anonymous. Anyway he told me in confidence, "The NIV is God's word!" He realized there were thousands who wanted to hold the KJV in a very high place and filled the need. Business men do that!
