i find it kinda ironic and funny that he says the "Military/Industrial complex" should be dismantled since it hasn't provided any benefit to society. why ironic and funny? every thing he used to make this vodcast is from the "Military/Industrial complex"! the computer, satellite, microwave transmission, mass communications, integrated circuits, the internet, etc all came from military research. i bet he even uses GPS
Jeers for saying (in another video) that "sensible" gun control is good, and that citizens should not own machine guns.
Jeers for saying we should dismantle our military. This would simply invite other powers to attack. Freedom isn't free.
Jeers again for thinking that the populace could repel an attack from another power, or our own govt, simply with pistols. And BTW, the Constitution says nothing about militias, nor guns, requiring registration.
I'll tell you something else I honestly believe. There will never be a national healthcare system because they government LIKES as much people sick as possible so they will die younger so they won't have to pay out social security benefits. I know it's my opinion, but i really believe that. This country will NEVER see a national healthcare system. Ever. Countless people have hypertension, diabetes, etc-they can't afford a doctor to diagnose it.
Respectfully, I think the reason we don't have a civilized health care system has more to do with corporate profits than it does with the government wanting to "thin the herd." I urge you to work for a single payer system and to make sure your voice is heard. Our financial system is hanging in by a thread, and when that thread snaps there will be room for real change.
The government WANTS as many people as possible to have guns because per the CDC 55% of all gunshot wounds were self inflicted and more available guns are, the more violent the society. Think about it-when people shoot themselves and each other-the government will not have to pay out social security benefits. Maybe the goverment likes guns because they won't have to pay out benefits due to all of this shooting. Just my opinion, but I really believe it.
Here's a simple question for you. Explain to me why Washington DC has 29 murders per 100,000 resident and is the only place in the U.S. where guns are completely banned by law, And New Hampshire has no gun registration requirements, and you can carry a fully loaded gun anywhere in the state strapped to your hip and they have only have 1 murder per 100,000 residents?
What is wrong with a gun ban??? With a nation full of depressed people who are losing their homes (i.e., getting homeless), jobless-I really don't think it is a good idea to ban any kind of gun ban. MAYBE the US government likes all of this suicide due to overpopulation-it wouldn't suprise me. With a gun in the house, it would make it easier when people snap due to overwhelming pressures of unemployment and pending home loss to do themselves in.
Keep in mind the CDC said **55%** of all gunshot deaths was *self inflicted*. That's A LOT OF SUICIDE!!! WOW!!! That was back in 2005. I'm sure it's much worst now with the economy the way it is and it's easier to get guns.
What's wrong with a gun ban? It violates the 8th Amendment. Please remember that most gun control in this country is still legal.
Plus, let me ask you this: do you think the gun problem would have gone away if the Court had upheld the DC ban? I don't. Banning guns would do for guns what the drug laws have done for drugs - make them more, not less dangerous.
So lets see, if 1% of 100 is one, then 3 time 100 is 300, so 1% of 300 is 3. Hey look, even at three times the base number they both have the same 1%. is 1/100 not the same percentage as 3/300?
The larger the population, more people are going to die of suicide. Keep in mind a lot of horribly poor people live in India and cannot afford a gun. More people die of starvation and disease there than suicide. Besides, with a gun in the house with serious thoughts of suicide-one is more likely to die because it's done quickly and there is NO TURNING BACK once that trigger is pulled. This is not the case with pills. If you can't figure that one out-too bad.
Portugal, Norway, Canada, New Zealand, Iceland, Romania, Germany, Bulgaria, Sweden, Slovakia, Cuba, Denmark, Uruguay, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, France, Finland, Belgium, Ukraine, Japan, Hungary, Russia, Lithuania, and many others have higher suicide rates and less percent gun in the homes per capita that the U.S..
And it is estimated 800,000 to 2.5 million crimes are prevented because the good guy brandished a gun.
I'm sure the people who did those stats were the NRA. Actually a person's chances of getting killed are much higher having a gun. A criminal already has their gun cocked and ready to fire. I was a victim of an armed robbery. I do not carry guns-but I also know even if I did they are hardly going to give you time to get it. In addition, I can guarantee if I had a gun-they would have shot me first. I had a machine-gun type of weapon pointed at my head and I was bound with duct tape.
"I'm sure the people who did those stats were the NRA" You would think the FBI worked for the NRA.
"Actually a person's chances of getting killed are much higher having a gun." Would your proof of that be the 32 dead at Virginia Tech? Oh yeah that's right, none of them had a gun.
How about the 23 Patrons dead on the floor at Luby's Restaurant in Texas? Oh yeah that's right, none of them had a gun there either
Those virgina Tech people had a gun-do you think it would have helped? The guy was firing away before anybody had a chance to react--and thanks to your GUNS FOR EVERYBODY laws-the wacko GOT the gun (easily), probably very easily, maybe even bought from a local store! Same scario with the Luby's restaurant-robbers have their gun ready to fire-and I'm sure some of those victims had guns but no chance to get them.
"Those Virginia Tech people had a gun-do you think it would have helped?". Another no-brainer. The killer
So if 5 kids in that school had legal guns do you really think they would just stand there and be killed?
Luby's same as VA tech, the killer had to reload, he had to aim, he walked around the place to get to the next victim.
"I'm sure some of those victims had guns but no chance to get them" Because Texas law did not let them carry them on their hip. 3 had them in their cars.
Your example is beyond dumb. It's 1 scenario. If I hear a window break, My gun will be in my hand it 2 seconds and the criminal has about 10% of getting out alive.
Fact is from a Florida University study crimes are prevented 800,000 to 2.5 million times a year by a gun owner.
Why did Florida crime drop like a rock when they allowed citizens to carry guns in 1987? Why does DC have the highest murder rate in the country and they are the only ones with a total gun ban?
I would like to know where you are getting your stats from. Florida is FAR from low crime rate-in fact, it's pretty violent. Florida's crime is VERY bad bad. Plenty of gangs, robberies, murders-what planet are you living on??
You do know airbags in cars accidentally kill a few people every year? Because of a few accidental airbag deaths should we take all airbag out of cars and stop using them?
Yes but airbags also save a lot of lives-you forgot to mention that. Otherwise they would not install them. Seatbelts have killed people in rare instances, but in MOST cases they SAVED lives.
"You do know airbags in cars accidentally kill a few people every year?" Kinda obvious it saves a lot more that it kills. So them you must agrees guns save a lot more then they kill too.
You can be as scholarly as you want, but when you lost your job, and are losing your home-there is a GUN in the house-a flowery scholarly speech isn't going to do much good, is it. I think the movie Soylent Green is coming true.
The CDC has just come out with some significant statistics that in 2005, a
whopping 55% of DEATHS BY GUN SHOT WOUNDS were self inflicted. The US Supreme Court just ruled that any kind of gun control is a no-no. i believe the USA is encoraging people to commit suicide. We have a very sucky economy and people are going to get very depressed over losing their job and home. And there is a GUN in the house. Thank you NRA for decreasing the population. Movie Soylent Green is finally coming true.
You obviously did not read the decision. The Supreme Court UPHELD much of the existing gun controls across the country. All it did was overturn a total ban on gun ownership that included disabling the weapon in the home.
What bothers me is it only passed 5-4. This case was a no-brainer and should have passed by a much larger majority.
Just goes to show the importance of who we choose for the next Pres. It's likely 3 justices will retire/die in the next 8 yrs, so the entire slant of the court could be changed.
There's an Obama vid on Youtube where he talks about who he'll pick. He clearly prefers judicial activists who pay more attention to their "feelings" than constitutional law. Scary stuff.
Well spoken Scott. The Supremes delivered a very well researched and rational ruling. The right to bear arms is just as important today as it was when the Bill of Rights was established. During the 20th Century more than 120 MILLION people were exterminated by their own governments. Their right to keep and bear arms was infringed prior to being exterminated. We don't live in a nice world. Our right to keep and bear arms, protects us against both criminals and outlaw governments.
Scalia had the best questions during oral arguments en banc on 18 March 2008. Alan Gura did a great job and the D.C. Government's arguments were weak and appealed to emotion, a fallacy of symbolic logic in their reasoning.
Interesting how Bush and Cheney took opposite sides on this one.
Scalia: The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. (a) The Amendment's prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause. The operative clause's text and history demonstrate that it connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms.
