The relationship is that Ulysses wants to see the courier's home (NCR or Legion gets nuked because one can't survive with out the other) destroyed because the Divide would have been Ulysses home before the courier destroyed it after he created a settlement there.
@sneekythesnake none of them make much sense without each other. I recommend getting them all. If your on a tight buget in the game, get dead money. Old world blues has some equipment. But DO NOT get lonesome road UNTIL you play them all. Just a word of warning.
Ulysses was a total dick, he's portrayed as this wise, enigmatic dude but he really has absolutely no empathy; he blames the Courier for delivering a package, a robot for being built a certain way, and the NCR for not being exactly the same as the Old World. Worst of all, he speaks down to the Courier despite having a worse history than him as a Frumentarii.
@dominsu I played it on all endings, but even with the NCR I could confince him to join me in the final battle against marked men. So... maybe your speech failed?

At the Location of Wolfhorn Ranch, there is a grave on a nearby hill. Something tells me that the grave will have some importance in the story between the two couriers.
One question I have is if Ulysses was using the Wolfhorn ranch as a staging area while under the employ of Ceaser. It's pretty convienient that Searchlight was hit with a dirty bomb, and that Wolfhorn Ranch is a perfectscouting point, and that the old nuclear test site (where a nuke could be found) is just a ways off from his ranch.
I believe that Ulysses originaly knew about the dangers of the delivery job, but his motive was to get answers from Mr. House about some historical aspect of Americas history. Somehow, killing off the courior was more worth it than getting the answers, which he knew that he could get at Big MT. I am also getting the impression that Ulysses is adept at explosives since the rescue of Christine seems to begin after an explosion. Two blown up buildings bearing his mark are at Y-17 and Z-9.
I've been tracking those spray painted old world flags in the Big MT. It looks like he sprayed red, white, and blue in a clock wise pattern starting from the eastern tunnel. He found his answer at the X-17 Meteorological station. Then proceeded to direct Father Elijah to the Madre. I don't think the story is as petty as a destroyed ranch, nor do I believe Ulysses has ever been to the divide otherwise why would he need to find a map to the divide like he did in X-17.
Sincerly, the back story involving Dead Money, Old World Blues and Ulysses is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the main story line. Really, I WANT TO KNOW WHT ULYSSES IS SO PISSED OFF WITH YOU!!!!

Ulysses said that the Mojave would "sort you out". However, this can also be interpreted that the Mojave would teach the player something. From the achivement 'Hometown Hero' and the message 'Go home, Courier', I have reason to suspect that the Courier was born at the Divide and somehow ruined it, and thus left it. So this DLC will reveal more of the Courier's past then most might think.

@opn7isgay I'm not particularly sure about that. I think Ulysses purposley wants to team up with the Courier so that they can rebuild America. Either that or Ulysses wants to see if the Couriers option in the Mojave Wasteland is worth it. That's probably why he has a legion and NCR outfit in his concept art becuase he can be taken back to the Mojave Wasteland with you to fight for what you believe in.
The 1st thing I do when I get Lonesome Road, is see if Ulysses is bulletproof. Cause I mean I was, right? Took 2 bullets to the head, let's see if Ulysses can take 15.

That even the enclave or the brotherhood don't know due to the fact of the separation of military post war of 2077 which end but was counitue in nuclear exchanging seven month later on October 23, 2077

There is still the mystery surrounding the Divide, and what connection does it have with Ulysses and C6 (courier 6). And there that Hopeville village somewhere in the Divide, where everything started. Maybe he want revenge on C6 for destroyed his home town without knowing it. And maybe Hopeville was once have a Pre-war like government (with all that Old World ashes and all), so Ulysses came to Big MT, found a way stop the storm and rebuild the Divide like how it once was. MAYBE
I'm wandering one thing, if Victor hired seven couriers to deliver packages to Mr.House, and Ulysses declined the offer because he saw the main characters name on the list, and then Ulysses is referred to as Courier Six, but technically you should be named Courier Six, since you took Ulysses place...does this make any sense, am I wrong or mistaken?

Ulysess wants revenge for something you did. He turned down the job because he knew himself can do the job. but if you did it he knew you would end up dead. That didn't work so all the dlc's were traps. He thought that one of them would kill you.
1: Dead money, That place was one big trap.
2:Honest Hearts, He thought the white legs would kill you.
3: Old world blues, He thought that you would be a test subject.
4:Lonesome Road, If the divide doesn't kill yea he'll try to do it himself.

Just realized Nash says something along the lines 'hope the storm from the divide skin him alive'. I knew the divide was a place, but I always thoguht he said 'divine' or something.
That video was so clean and cut. Man, I'm impressed. Using audio from the actual game creating atmosphere, and using ingame and outsourced imaging to provide visual aid to the text. Now these are the info vids people should be making.
At some point before the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, Ulysses contacts the Courier via radio transmission, promising to explain the incident in Primm in exchange for one final job. Depending on how Dead Money ended, the ending slides say that word would eventually reach both Christine and Dog of some sort of a battle in the future. The battle is said to take place at the Divide, "beneath the torn skies and the old world flag", between the two couriers, "each carrying a message for the other".
Ulysses does't serve any other faction in the game, and seems, IMO out only to somehow bring back the old world. Which would be the exactly the thing your not doing the whole game. I only think that because the last few dlcs have had a major focus on "letting go" of the past and moving on to make a new future. And it seems that is not what Ulysses wants to do..
In the new DLC: Old World Blues, Almost every "important" place you go during the main quest line has the Ulysses "flag symbol" on the wall/door. If you havent bought old World Blues I reccomend that you look into buying it. It has many hints towards the final DLC: Lonesome road.

Just what the hell did the Courier do that made such an impact on his life? Dude seems hellbent on killing you, if he doesn't, then the Divide surely will. And "Each bearing a message for the other?" I'm sorry, but there has to be a massive ass interaction thing going on here. Ulysses tells you something, and then the Courier, who's done whatever, shapes the past.... Agh my BRAIN.

@l2pn i believe i know Ulysses and the courier's relationship between one another and if you re-look at the Primm part of the clip just think about wut the old man says and ad up all the stories of the 3 dlcs and the main stories and it becomes clear
@BlazerT10 Exactly. Therefore, the Enclave (remnants of the US Government) is what appears on his back. Maybe he is aligned with the Enclave? Just an idea.
@flyingemuzZZ the enclave are pretty much gone in the Mojave Wasteland. It's been confirmed he doesn't work for the Enclave, but maybe for Caesar's Legion and the NCR.
@krashmans they took the ideas of it, and made those ideas into their own faction/organization. It's like Caesar's Legion taking the ideas of the Roman Empire, and making them into a faction.
@krashmans the enclave wasn't the entire pre war gov. it was just a small fraction. it was basically a select group of people who new that the world would eventually go into nuclear war so what they basically were about was the continuation of the american goverment after the war. they were able to survive through creating several fallout shelters such as the one located on an oil rig that you can see in fallout 2 i think.
@krashmans Nah cause he doesn't really believe in the Enclave. He believes in the real Old World America, not a bunch of oil executives and politicians who hid away in their bunkers while the world burned around them.

There is still the mystery surrounding the Divide, and what connection does it have with Ulysses and C6 (courier 6). And there that Hopeville village somewhere in the Divide, where everything started. Maybe he want revenge on C6 for destroyed his home town without knowing it. And maybe Hopeville was once have a Pre-war like government (with all that Old World ashes and all), so Ulysses came to Big MT, found a way stop the storm and rebuild the Divide like how it once was. MAYBE

I'm wandering one thing, if Victor hired seven couriers to deliver packages to Mr.House, and Ulysses declined the offer because he saw the main characters name on the list, and then Ulysses is referred to as Courier Six, but technically you should be named Courier Six, since you took Ulysses place...does this make any sense, am I wrong or mistaken?

Ulysess wants revenge for something you did. He turned down the job because he knew himself can do the job. but if you did it he knew you would end up dead. That didn't work so all the dlc's were traps. He thought that one of them would kill you.
1: Dead money, That place was one big trap.
2:Honest Hearts, He thought the white legs would kill you.
3: Old world blues, He thought that you would be a test subject.
4:Lonesome Road, If the divide doesn't kill yea he'll try to do it himself.

@Matsudiro The flag of the Enclave. I think Ulysses is going to end up being ex-Enclave, or a member of the Remnant. Which makes me wonder, is the Courier ex-Enclave too? Maybe ex-BOS? No, the BOS thing doesn't add up. Maybe he's from some tribe the Enclave wiped out...now I'm thinking out loud, or typing what I think...shit...

At some point before the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, Ulysses contacts the Courier via radio transmission, promising to explain the incident in Primm in exchange for one final job. Depending on how Dead Money ended, the ending slides say that word would eventually reach both Christine and Dog of some sort of a battle in the future. The battle is said to take place at the Divide, "beneath the torn skies and the old world flag", between the two couriers, "each carrying a message for the other".

Ulysses does't serve any other faction in the game, and seems, IMO out only to somehow bring back the old world. Which would be the exactly the thing your not doing the whole game. I only think that because the last few dlcs have had a major focus on "letting go" of the past and moving on to make a new future. And it seems that is not what Ulysses wants to do..

In the new DLC: Old World Blues, Almost every "important" place you go during the main quest line has the Ulysses "flag symbol" on the wall/door. If you havent bought old World Blues I reccomend that you look into buying it. It has many hints towards the final DLC: Lonesome road.

Just what the hell did the Courier do that made such an impact on his life? Dude seems hellbent on killing you, if he doesn't, then the Divide surely will. And "Each bearing a message for the other?" I'm sorry, but there has to be a massive ass interaction thing going on here. Ulysses tells you something, and then the Courier, who's done whatever, shapes the past.... Agh my BRAIN.

@krashmans they took the ideas of it, and made those ideas into their own faction/organization. It's like Caesar's Legion taking the ideas of the Roman Empire, and making them into a faction.

@krashmans the enclave wasn't the entire pre war gov. it was just a small fraction. it was basically a select group of people who new that the world would eventually go into nuclear war so what they basically were about was the continuation of the american goverment after the war. they were able to survive through creating several fallout shelters such as the one located on an oil rig that you can see in fallout 2 i think.
