@shzywansui I was just googling the phrase "black revolutionaries in libya" and this video came up. I want to ask you just how long ago was it that you met a black rebel? What were the circumstances of these meetings? How do the other rebels treat them? There was a recent article about some Somali immigrants that had to escape b/c they were basically being treated as slaves. Early in the revolt I did see about 2 pics of black rebels...but then again that was EARLY on.
@basdgds I met a few back in October during the last days of the war. One was in Zwara. That one spoke English, so he may have been a Western returnee, but I can't be sure. I met a few in Tripoli, and they seemed naturally integrated with the rest of their brigade. They only spoke Arabic (couldn't tell if anyone was Amazighiyy though, which would be interesting to see). I have also seen other videos of black revolutionaries from various stages of the Revolution and war.

Only time will tell how the situation in Libya will develop. But one thing that is especially certain is this: that these armed groups will not surrender their weapons readily. Power comes at the barrel of a gun. That is something they have learnt, and will not forget. As a consequence, the reestablishment of the social contract in Libya is doubtful.

@1tech702 I think you may have misinterpreted what I said. Anyway, it is clear that there will not be peace in Libya for a long time. Today there was a battle between NTC forces in Tripoli and an armed group from Misrata. I don't think you can confidently say that NATO intervened to stop the war. If you remember, Gaddafi had crushed the initial uprising in all of Libya bar Benghazi, then the UN Resolution was passed. Then followed the NATO intervention which turned things in the rebels' favour.
@1tech702 Actually many Libyans support Gaddafi (If not how the hell he resisted for 7 month?). Nato killed hundreds of civilians and they only admitted that they killed 9 (yeah right, humanitarian aid). Also, there is plenty of video evidence showing atrocities done by the rebels. I really doubt if the rebels could form an effective government, and give the citizens of Libya more rights than they have during Gaddafi's regime.

They were fighting NATO and a rebel insurgency fighting alongside British SAS troops, yet they still found the time to move dead bodies around so as to artfully create the impression that NATO had killed civilians? Of course NATO bombing killed civilians, it's not possible to be 100% precise.
@GlassSeagull Eye witnesses have testified to the moving of bodies. There was plenty of time to do this during NATO bombings in which the rebels did not advance after the bombings. But I take it for what it is "propaganda" and both sides of any war would do it if they thought it would help them international support (aka) more fighting power). NATO casualties is going to happen especially when it is not US doing the attacking. US knows the importance of not killing innocent people.

What were the circumstances of these meetings? How do the other rebels treat them? There was a recent article about some Somali immigrants that had to escape b/c they were basically being treated as slaves. Early in the revolt I did see about 2 pics of black rebels...but then again that was EARLY on.

@basdgds I met a few back in October during the last days of the war. One was in Zwara. That one spoke English, so he may have been a Western returnee, but I can't be sure. I met a few in Tripoli, and they seemed naturally integrated with the rest of their brigade. They only spoke Arabic (couldn't tell if anyone was Amazighiyy though, which would be interesting to see). I have also seen other videos of black revolutionaries from various stages of the Revolution and war.

Only time will tell how the situation in Libya will develop. But one thing that is especially certain is this: that these armed groups will not surrender their weapons readily. Power comes at the barrel of a gun. That is something they have learnt, and will not forget. As a consequence, the reestablishment of the social contract in Libya is doubtful.

Even though they went up against their own army they had great success but many civilian losses. Many did defect later at great risk to their careers and selves.
NATO did help later (THANK GOD). NATO wanted the war to stop and allow the people to choose the person they wanted to lead them. They did this at Libyas request. THANK YOU NATO!! JOB WELL DONE!! I SALUTE YOU!

@1tech702 I think you may have misinterpreted what I said. Anyway, it is clear that there will not be peace in Libya for a long time. Today there was a battle between NTC forces in Tripoli and an armed group from Misrata. I don't think you can confidently say that NATO intervened to stop the war. If you remember, Gaddafi had crushed the initial uprising in all of Libya bar Benghazi, then the UN Resolution was passed. Then followed the NATO intervention which turned things in the rebels' favour.

@1tech702 Actually many Libyans support Gaddafi (If not how the hell he resisted for 7 month?). Nato killed hundreds of civilians and they only admitted that they killed 9 (yeah right, humanitarian aid). Also, there is plenty of video evidence showing atrocities done by the rebels. I really doubt if the rebels could form an effective government, and give the citizens of Libya more rights than they have during Gaddafi's regime.

@williamjpiano I do not believe any video evidence of NATO killing many civilians as it has been proven that Gadhafi's regime placed bodies of other battles at NATO bombing scenes. What you see here is non-confirmed (FAKE) videos of NATO casualties. As far as belief in Libya's ability to form a effective post-Gadhafi peaceful government I say this...Anything is better than a Dictatorship government that tortures, kills, rapes & steals from the people it represents

@1tech702 How has it been proven that Gaddafi forces moved bodies to attempt to incriminate NATO? I find that implausible. They were fighting NATO and a rebel insurgency fighting alongside British SAS troops, yet they still found the time to move dead bodies around so as to artfully create the impression that NATO had killed civilians? Of course NATO bombing killed civilians, it's not possible to be 100% precise.

@GlassSeagull Eye witnesses have testified to the moving of bodies. There was plenty of time to do this during NATO bombings in which the rebels did not advance after the bombings. But I take it for what it is "propaganda" and both sides of any war would do it if they thought it would help them international support (aka) more fighting power). NATO casualties is going to happen especially when it is not US doing the attacking. US knows the importance of not killing innocent people.

What if they are providing material support to the "enemy", whoever that may be? What if they are providing "moral" support to the enemy? Are they still "innocent" then? It's an interesting point I think that the concept of the "innocent" person is quite problematic.
