Let me say first that I never expected to get over 4000 views and all of these comments when I posted this video. I just am always amazed by Smooth's great attitude and entertaining personality. The man always has a smile on his face. Is not uncommon for him to take a kid off to the side and try to give them a little advice or a pep talk. I just thought other people would enjoy watching him. By the way, he also referees basketball in the gym next door to the ballpark!

first you are not suppose to wear your hat backwards, second he flinch which is normal reaction on one of the pitchs and he needs to get down the line all plays towrds first even if there another umpire.

Great Umpire for these kids... Just remember when umpiring more serious games you want to be as behind the scene as possible until making a call, then you want to be assertive.

I am not trying to cut this guy down. I know from experience that it takes A LOT to put on the blue, stripes or what ever official uniform and work games at any level. At some point in this umpire's career he is going to run in to a situation where his professional appearance is going to save him A TON of heart ache and issues...it is just a fact...yes, kudos to him for volunteering and giving back to his community...a more professional appearance would help him in the future.

Cut the guy a break, he looks like he enjoys his responsibility and takes it serious - when was the last time you had an umpire that smiled and had fun while giving back to the community?

to be fair, the guy has a field umpire. There's no need for him to move, especially when the runner is coming home. He sounds like a guy trying to sell you something or a horse race announcer.

@Baseball5030 this were your dead wrong, even if he has a field umpire he is suppose to move down half way to first. here why the feilder foot may come off the bag and maybe the base umpire does not see it. so if he down where he is. and the coach comes and ask. the coach may ask him to go ask his parnter for help up to the parnter to help. let say he does therefore he see the call. you are suppose to move with a parnter or not.

needs to turn his cap around too. Hard working or not, this job is 90% perception. Seeing his cap turned around would immediately make me think he is puke even before seeing him call a pitch.

@buckeyebryan10 Agreed. I referee soccer, and I hate working with officials who show up at the game with their shorts sagged, shirts lazily tucked in, sometimes even wearing basketball shorts. It sends the message that you are uninterested and complete crap.

this dude sucks as a umpire when he calls ball he goes up like hes calling a strike fucking horrible. go to a clinic you need it.
