he may have blended the colour from right to left on one panel but what about the front wing and the rest of the door ie top and bottom. theese will have old and new paint colours right next to each other
everybody that nows how to paint a car send me step by step instuctions on how to do it cause i wanna try this project also include the stuff ill need im new so hope it all goes well haha thanks to expertvillage im learning alot i subed
What is the next step? Do you clear coat after drying? If you do, do you put new clear coat over where there has only come a little new color? I am asking because when I did it on my old black car the blend area turned out pretty matte and ugly. Possibly because I used a rattle can, ended up making a more solid border instead and then taking a buffer with rubbing compound on the area where the old and new met. How do you guys do it?
BIG TRICK to all at home painters and pro shops wet sand and buff car befor trying to paint match and a fresh buff job is a whole lot easier to get off the over spray with just a simple clay bar and a hand wax also it gives a photo style paint matching gun better results
After 37 years in the auto body business, I still learn everyday. The time is near when we won't be painting cars, we'll be laying out and heat-shrinking auto wrap panels. They will come in every color the NEW cars will come wrapped in from the factory. Robert M. Appleton (ceo Integrity AB llc)
Sorry, but I do not agree with you about COLOR MATCHING. *Most* colors can be tinted to match without blending. It took me 7 years to correctly match colors and in the 0.5 (tinting time) the book allows.(37 yrs exp) RMA
It only took me 2 months to match any colors without blending. I am a color nerd.hehehe.. I used to be a prepper and my manager promoted me to be the lead painter cuz of my color matching skill. I used to laugh at the painter who hired me cuz he was so strict in prepping cars but he can't match his color. he was like "HEY you miss this scratch!" and I'm like "fuck that your color match is always off!" he was so embarrassed and after a week he quit then I got his job. lol!
That's excellent. So how do you match your colors. Do you use sprayout panels, or variance chips, how? How about your tri-coats, do you simply make a single basecoat to save time. And are you on commission? Good luck with your painting. OBTW, I say seven years, because I don't want my techs to assume that they have nothing to learn; I can't teach them if they already think they know it all. After 37 yrs I still learn new materials and applications.
i don't really rely on the chips cuz sometimes none of them matches the car or sometimes there's is only one variant chip available but the computer shows like 8 alternates so i always use my sprayout card as a starting point especially when the paint line is cheap and almost all the colors needs adjustment. I have no problem with tri-coats. Making the tricoat as a regular basecoat is okay but I only do that for old cars..For newer cars with reasonable estimate, I wouldn't do it. :)
Sometimes I turn the regular basecoat into a tri stage by making a my own midcoat for the base. I usually do this for rich colors...Just other way of tinting and it's working for me. Yes, I am flat rate. There's always something to learn everyday as long we're willing to learn. Oh yea, spray with full face mask...don't let your eyes absorb all the overspray cuz it will eventually affect your color perception. This happened to a lot of painters that don't believe in safety...hehe
YOU KNOB!!!! I was like 'licking the bosses arse', and my boss was like 'Yeah thats good!, not only are you the best at paint 'COLOUR' matching but your the best at getting your tongue right in'. Shut the fuck up!!! if you had taken my job i would have ripped your fuckin head off, but then again i wouldnt have let a gimp like your push me out the door!!!! Colour matching doesnt make you a good painter!!!!

However, I do remember being an apprentice at a shop, where(before shops had their own mixing machines and we had to rely on the jobber for a factory mix... which sucked because there were many "VARIENTS" depending on where a Chevy was made) I just couldn't get the "shade" right for a repair. So my wise ass boss told me to go down to paint supply store and ask for a "pint of fade".
This "painter" is an accident just waiting to happen. Look as how he's jerking and shaking the gun. The lids fly off gravity fed Sata-Jets all the time. RMA

The whole area is clear coated after blending the paint.. It is the clear lacquer which gives the finish and the shine..

aren't you suppose to take an old painting off first and then paint it?
Emil1787 3 years ago
you can but you dont have to you get a better look with taking off the out paint but a lot more work..
Zorgon2277 2 years ago
way too much paint for a coat, you need less paint per coat, dusting it over a bit each coat
