My English professor actually told me the other day what it means. Its a really adult topic of symbolization that I probably should not tell you so I wont.
I was told rocking the horse in the story was symbolized as masturbation. I was shocked to hear that, I couldn't believe it. That is definetly the real meaning. No one in my class would have ever guessed it. I guess it makes a boring English class a bit more interesting haha lol.
I had to read that story in my senior year in 2007. What is riding the rocking horse symbolise?

The way i heard it was....
He rode the horse to show the crazy things we would to to get what we want.
The limits we woudl push to obtain our own happyness.
