I liked this movie then. I even liked Thomas Jane's Punisher. But...this debut "director" overtly ripped off Mad Max's incarnation from cop to rogue outlawman for his Punisher's origin of DEA agent (?!) to Vigilante. The outsourced button-man, Harry Heck was my fave element to this film, even though it was brief. Btw, John Travolta was horribly miscast and just plain horrible as the lame crime douche, Howard Saint.

It is up to the director to actually make the movie good. The director who made "Punisher War Zone" didn't know what the fuck she was doing.

From what I remember(it has been a LONG ass time) this movie was based more on 'Welcome Back Frank' and Year: one

The fighting in this movie was a lot more realistic, Jane's acting and voice was awesome, the music was awesome(although sometimes they used inappropriate music for certain scenes) and all with a low budget. They really need to make a sequel for this one, people would watch it

@antitroll890 The thing with Warzone is that, while it WAS closer to the comics, it didn't have storyline related to the comics. It was just a mish-mash of things at random. Also, this one had a lot of things from the comics, too. The Year One license plate on Frank's car is related to a comic arc, and his neighbors happened in the Welcome Back, Frank arc, and the little speech he does at the end is almost verbatim from the comic. So, there's a lot of influence in both movies.

There's a punisher movie set to be made in 2014 according to imdb. Most likely I'd say Stevenson will be recast as the punisher,as he's appeared as him already(looks more intimidating as Frank than Jane did)and he's been in Thor..so he's already become familar in marvel movies. People really need to go read punisher comics before trying to state who is and isn't suited for the role. I doubt half who watched war zone even know a thing about the max series

War zone was based more on punisher's MAX series,which is why people didn't like it because unless they read the comic nobody understood the violence levels and such..Stevenson's punisher is far better than Jane's because ray's is the up to date punisher. Regardless both played the 2 different aspects of Frank..Ray in brutality,and Jane in frank's psychological warfare

I don't see how people can badmouth this movie. It isn't perfect by any means, but it's entertaining and it captures the Punisher as he truly is: a man. Not an action hero, not an unstoppable, murderous force... just a man. It's a shame this film didn't get the sequel it deserved. Maybe they can bring Thomas Jane back for a sequel and ignore "War Zone," kind of like how the Halloween franchise ignored "Halloween 3" when it tanked.

John Travolta is the only thing really wrong with this movie, he stunk up every scene he was in, like he does in most of his movies. He's not scary, intimidating, and unbelievable as some sort of crime lord. His henchman that he killed with the knife was a much more interesting bad guy. Jane was great, shame they didnt make another with him, putting real Marvel money behind it.

On a side note, doesnt he look amazingly like Chris Lambert from Highlander? But he can act. Lambert...no.
